  6. Residents around a local boarding house today were taken aback when a delivery man was discovered dead in his room, having seemingly passed away three days prior. The gruesome discovery left his sole neighbour unnerved and motivated to seek new residences, while at the same time reviving the old saying about death heralded by the call of a barn owl. It began around 7am, when police in the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province were alerted to the discovery of a corpse in a boarding house in the Uthai district. Upon arrival at the scene, they found disquieting traces of blood extending from a second-floor dwelling down to the ground level. Inside, they discovered the remains of Veerachai, a 43 year old native of the Uttaradit province. Based on preliminary checks, it was apparent that Veerachai had been deceased for at least three days, with no signs of conflict detectable, reported KhaoSod. Interviewing residents of the room next to the deceased, police learned that Veerachai made his living as a delivery rider. His daily routine involved him leaving the boarding house early in the morning and returning around 8pm. The last time they saw him alive was August 6. In the days that followed, they worried about Veerachai’s health when they hadn’t seen him. Those fears were later confirmed by the sight of blood trails seeping from Veerachai’s room in the boarding house early in the morning. 8. A tragic event emerged in a labour camp in Samut Prakan‘s Bang Phli district yesterday afternoon where a 24 year old man from Khon Kaen was discovered dead in a bathroom. Shinagorn, a worker originally from Khon Kaen, was found hanging from the bathroom ceiling with a nylon rope around his neck. A toppled stool was found nearby his dead body, suggesting the young man’s life had ended just a few hours earlier. Within Shinagorn’s living quarters, a poignant scene unfolded. Amid children’s belongings including toys and milk bottles, two handwritten letters, penned in red ink, lay nearby. Predominately expressing his inner turmoil, the letters also conveyed apologies to his wife and instructions to his daughter. The heart-wrenching notes were scribbled with affectionate mentions of his parents before concluding with words of love for his wife, daughter, and parents. On hearing the devastating news, Shinagorn’s wife and daughter travelled from their residence in Khlong Toei. They brought incense with them to bid farewell and apologise, beseeching him not to haunt their young daughter who was inconsolable and incessantly crying. The grieving child ceased her sobbing shortly after her mother lit the incense, reported Sanook. Interviews with Shinagorn’s kin revealed that his phone was left unattended outside his room. The discovery led his nephew to look for him in the bathroom where he found Shingorn’s dead body. 10. Thai Highway Police yesterday swooped to arrest a 37 year old woman and charged her with forgery of official documents and using a fake license plate on her car in Bangkok. The arrest took place at the bridge crossing Khlong Phraya Suren Canal, Karnchanapisek Road, heading into Bangna, Ongkharak District, Sai Mai District, Bangkok. She was driving a black BMW X3 car with a counterfeit red plate, bearing the number: Tor 9999, Bangkok. The woman, Bussabong, was captured by highway police after witnessing her aggressive driving. They signalled her to stop for an inspection. During the check, the police found the car’s license plate to be fake. Additionally, Bussabong was unable to provide any details or evidence of owning the suspicious vehicle. Police then contacted the legitimate car ownership holder, a finance company. It was later revealed that the vehicle was previously the subject of a lawsuit by the company demanding the car owner return it due to defaulting on hire-purchase agreement payments over 25 consecutive times, spanning two years. Consequently, Bussabong was arrested while the fraudulent vehicle and fake license plate were confiscated as evidence. On investigation, Bussabong denied the charges. Nevertheless, she was sent to Kannayao Police Station for further legal proceedings. 12. A giant sculpture of the renowned Thai deity Kru Kai Kaew or the Great Master Teacher, caused considerable traffic when it failed clear a bridge it was passing under in Ratchadaphisek, Bangkok. A humanoid with bird-like features, wings on its back and golden talons, the unusual sight sparked curiosity about the identity of the deity among bystanders. Too tall to make it through the underpass, the stuck statue gained the attention of onlookers, and now the statue’s backstory has been revealed. The statue’s history is traced back to a monk in Lamphang province. The monk had gifted the statue of Kru Kai Kaew, often known as Great Master Teacher, to his student, Thawil Milinthajinda, an old-school Thai singer and former military musician. Thawil, in turn, passed it on to his student, Suchat Rattanasuk. Suchat Rattanasuk is recognised for establishing the first statues of Kru Kai Kaew in Thailand. Traditionally, figurines of the deity were small, measuring approximately two inches. The statue initially depicted a person sitting in a squatting position. However, Suchat, using a bit of creative license, drew an image of Kru Kai Kaew and cast the first statue standing tall, resembling an older person, reported KhaoSod. 14. Police finally swooped to arrest a Thai sex pest who harassed a number of underage schoolgirls in Bangkok after an intense two-week search. On arrest, the deviant blamed mental health issues as the reason for his perverted behaviour. In July, several schoolgirls in Bangkok fell victim to the Thai pervert, later identified as 35 year old Jirayut Phomhom. According to Channel 3, Jirayut targeted girls in school uniforms who were travelling to school in the morning. When Jirayut met his target, he would approach them, pretend to get lost, and ask for directions from his teenage victims. He then got uncomfortably close to the girls and touched their genitals before fleeing the scene. The police received complaints from several victims but believe there were more who have not filed a complaint. A number of the incidents occurred in Bangkok near Romaneenart Park, on Nakong Thai Road, at Wan Chart Intersection, and in front of Triam Udom Suksa School between July 6 to July 26. Officers from several police stations in Bangkok spent over two weeks searching for the deviant and finally arrested him yesterday at his home in the central province of Nakhon Pathom. 18. Rice prices have begun to climb, causing restaurateurs concern about the cost of producing made-to-order meals. Despite this, some restaurants have opted not to increase prices, sympathising with their customers. They are instead appealing to the government to control the cost. The Ministry of Commerce directed related agencies to balance rice prices after a lull in rainfall from El Niño and India’s suspension of rice exports, causing global market costs to rise. Piriya Liaochareon, owner of a made-to-order food restaurant located in Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province, says that she has been running her business for six years with the majority of her customers from local communities. She set the sale price for rice dishes at 30 baht per plate, with some deluxe meal choices priced between 40 to 50 baht, reported KhaoSod. Each month, she has to buy two 15-kilogramme bags of unprocessed rice to sell to her customers and for family consumption. The sales price in July was 320 baht per bag. However, at the beginning of August, the selling price of rice was adjusted, an increase of 35 baht per bag. This makes a total of 355 baht, which equates to 2 baht per kilogramme.
