  1. Many people, including groups that are openly against the current military-led government in Myanmar, are doubting the claims of a meeting and discussion between Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and the imprisoned Aung San Suu Kyi. Prior to revealing that he had met with the Nobel Laureate to the reporters, Don had divulged information about the meeting to his peers at an ASEAN Foreign Ministers meeting in Jakarta. The meeting would be the first time since the 2021 coup that Aung San Suu Kyi, imprisoned in Nay Pyi Taw serving 33 years, would have been allowed to meet with a foreign dignitary. Police are asking the public to avoid the area around the Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district, where supporters of the Move Forward party will hold a rally this evening (Friday) in protest over party leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s failure to become prime minister. They blame Pita’s loss on the Senate, who harshly criticised Pita and Move Forward on Thursday for insisting that the country’s lèse majesté law must be amended. The rally will start at 6pm. Police say that the public and motorists should avoid the approaches to Pathumwan intersection, near which the Arts Centre is located. 5. The lifeless body of a Thai woman was discovered in a rice field located in the northeastern province of Amnart Charoen. Police suspect that her boyfriend, who they believe also left a suicide note at the scene, is responsible for her murder. A local, 29 year old Jittapon Khampaeng, yesterday recounted the distressed discovery of the woman’s dead body to the media. He explained that he visited his rice field to apply fertilizer to the rice at about 12noon. While attempting to park his car under a tree, he was confronted by the shocking sight of a lifeless body. Jittapon admitted that he did not dare to get out of his car to check on the body. He was shocked by the discovery and decided to return to his community to seek assistance from the community leader. The leader then reported it to the Muaeng Amnart Charoen Police Station. According to the police report, the victim was found wearing a black T-shirt and sarong and had been brutally stabbed more than 10 times all over her body. Additionally, her arms and hands displayed multiple cut wounds suggesting she attempted to protect herself from the knife attack. Nearby her body, an officer discovered paper containing phone numbers belonging to the deceased’s mother. Another note bore a message that read… “I love you so much. I will die too, very soon.” By Petch Petpailin Caption: Photo via Facebook/ บัง เต๋า Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/grain-of-suspicion-thai-woman-found-lifeless-in-rice-field-boyfriends-alleged-suicide-note-points-to-murder -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 7. A 62 year old man known as the King of King Cobra in Thailand announced his retirement from a 28-year career in snake exhibitions, most notably kissing the venomous cobra, a stunt which won him Guinness World Records. His decision came after his wife expressed her worry for his safety, given the risk of severe neurotoxicity if bitten, especially at his age. Thongkum Chaibuddee’s house, located at 90 Moo 6, Khok Sa-Nga Village in Nam Pong, Khon Kaen province, is the only cobra village in Thailand. For years, he has accumulated various notes, photos and certifications, including two Guinness World Record certificates. Displays Thongkum put on at his house were of him smoothly and safely kissing the serpents, a feat that despite seeming dangerous, never led to a snake escaping onto him. The king cobra performer demonstrated his signature cobra-smooching act numerous times, describing his technique as akin to sucking. It involved him lightly touching or licking the snake’s head. He will keep his five cobra snakes for a while and, if any company approaches him, he will sell them by weighing them at the rate of 1,000 baht (US$29) per kilogram. The snakes weigh between 4 to 5 kilograms, reported Sanook. Thongkum stated that he decided to retire as he felt satisfied with his life. He no longer needed to pay instalments on his car, and after his wife called him while she was at work, expressing her concern, he decided it was time to retire. He also had doctor’s warnings in his thoughts – they state that there’s a high risk of death for individuals over the age of 60 if bitten by a cobra, as the venom could affect various nerve systems. 9. In an intriguing turn of events, a former eminent Thai language teacher from a reputable school in Bangkok, who was a No.1 honour graduate from a prestigious university and recipient of the ‘Exemplary Thai Language Teacher of the Year’ award in 2017, has been accused of deceptively renting accommodation. It transpires that the fraudulent accommodation offerings were purportedly for big school events taking place in multiple provinces, misleading teachers keen to take their students to these activities in Nan province under the guise of providing accommodation for the students. The reliable profile Sunthorn <deleted> had built from his past as an outperforming teacher was used as a smokescreen in this act of deceit. No less than 100 victims have reportedly fallen prey to his ploy. There are currently four active arrest warrants for him. Police Corporal Theeradech led the investigation team of Provincial Crime Suppression Division 5 (PCT5) for over a month. Their undercover operation targeted the LGBTQ+ massage scene. Eventually, they concluded that Sunthorn was residing in the Ram Inthra area of Bangkok, living with a young boyfriend. Sunthorn was observed leaving his room only once a day or sometimes not at all. Yesterday, Corporal Theeradech led his PCT5 team and metropolitan detectives to apprehend Sunthorn while he was relocating his residence with his boyfriend, a Lao national. The arrest was effected at said residence. Upon further investigation, Sunthorn confessed to all accusations levelled against him and admitted the erratic turnaround his life had taken. He maintained that he graduated with honour and upon graduation, he served as a contractual teacher at a well-known school. In 2012, he became a full-time hired teacher. He served at a school principal’s behest until he became embroiled in a money-borrowing scandal involving a businessperson, forcing him to move to another school. He had his heyday when he ventured into the Ministry of Education and received a ‘Teacher of the Year’ award, reported Sanook. 15. A Thai woman fell victim to a liquor scam after the swindler successfully deceived her by promoting a fake shop with a picture of Move Forward Party (MFP) leader Pita Limcharoenrat, and the party’s Progressive Liquor Act campaign. The victim, 33 year old Juthaporn, yesterday filed a complaint against the scammer at Mueang Rayong Police Station. Juthaporn stated that she bought a locally crafted liquor called Chaiyaphume and Onson from the Facebook page, MyDay, but did not receive the products. Juthaporn made known she is an alcohol collector and wanted to add Thai alcohol to her collection since the MFP’s leader, Pita, promoted several Thai brands and the party’s Progressive Liquor Act. Jatuporn stated that she came across an online alcohol shop called MyDay offering a variety of Thai alcoholic drinks. The shop was credible in her opinion because it shared a picture of Pita holding bottles of Chaiyaphum which is an alcohol from the Isaan province of Chaiyaphum and Onson from the Isaan province of Sakon Nakhon. Jatuporn ordered two types of alcohol and transferred 2,299 baht to the vendor named Sittichai Sipimsor. She waited for the products but nothing arrived. She attempted to contact the vendor but the Facebook page was later closed down. 17. Yesterday’s political fiasco, where Pita Limjaroenrat failed to become PM despite his party winning the most votes in the general election, has left Thailand’s tourism sector on edge. The risk of political protests if Pita Limjaroenrat fails to secure the votes needed to become PM in round 2 or 3 of voting (on July 19 and 20) is worrying tourism operators. For now protest activity has been very limited as Thais wait for the next round of voting. The 8-party coalition, back Pita as Thailand’s next PM, make up 71% of the popular vote in the last election.
