PM Office Minister Reiterates Popularity of Beef in ASEAN BANGKOK (NNT) - Agriculturalists are urged to recognize the lucrative opportunity in cattle husbandry, as demand for beef in all ASEAN countries is on the rise. BANGKOK (NNT) - Agriculturalists are urged to recognize the lucrative opportunity in cattle husbandry, as demand for beef in all ASEAN countries is on the rise. The comment was made by Anucha Nakasai, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, during his visit to Khon Kaen province, to officiate an initiative aimed at fortifying the grassroots economy. Anucha pointed out that the numbers of cattle and buffalo farms in Thailand are declining, despite the increased demand in the ASEAN bloc. In response, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has launched the project to provide 1 million cattle to farmers nationwide, encouraging agriculturalists to raise more cattle and buffalo to meet domestic and international markets’ demands. Late last month, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives successfully negotiated with Vietnam, approving Thai cattle and buffalo farms intending to export live cattle for consumption. This approval allows the first lot of exports from 14 farms, totaling 7,000 animals, worth over 295 million baht. This development is seen as good news for Thai farmers, providing the opportunity to expand their live cattle export market to other countries, and enhancing Thailand’s economy. It is expected that the future market will continue to grow, leading to a sustainable income for cattle farmers and improving their quality of life without needing to seek employment elsewhere. Minister Anucha stated that the caretaker government is committed to strengthening the grassroots economy and improving living conditions, particularly for farmers across the country. He also highlighted the immense potential of the Northeast region, which constitutes 70% of the country’s total area, as a significant hub for livestock farming and agriculture. BANGKOK (NNT) - Starbucks Thailand has unveiled an ambitious plan to open 335 new stores in the country from 2023 to 2030. The strategy aims to increase the total number of Starbucks branches in Thailand to 800 by 2030, up from the current 465 stores. The move reflects Starbucks’ commitment to accelerating growth in one of Southeast Asia’s vibrant markets. Starbucks Thailand Managing Director Nednapa Srisamai emphasized the company’s confidence in the long-term prospects of Thailand’s economy. Although the investment budget was not disclosed, she stated that Thailand has been a strategic market for Starbucks in Southeast Asia for a significant period, and the company remains optimistic about the future of the coffee business in the country. As part of the eight-year business plan, the new Starbucks stores will incorporate the Reserve and drive-thru formats. Starbucks has adapted to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic by increasing the number of drive-thru stores, a focus that will continue this year as the number of COVID infections decreases. Currently, there are 56 Starbucks drive-thru stores in Thailand, with plans to expand the network to approximately 100 in the future. The drive-thru concept aligns with evolving consumer behavior and offers enhanced accessibility. In line with the sustainability trend, Starbucks Thailand intends to open more Starbucks Greener stores and cashless outlets. The company recently upgraded its largest store, Starbucks Reserve Chao Phraya Riverfront at Iconsiam, to include a second Community store. Starbucks plans to operate eight Community stores out of the 800 branches scheduled for 2030. These stores will employ a profit-sharing business model, supporting Starbucks’ global commitment to establishing 1,000 Community stores worldwide by 2030. BANGKOK (NNT) - Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) has revealed its ambitious six-year expansion plan for Don Mueang Airport. The capital investment plan, approved by the Cabinet, aims to develop Don Mueang International Airport’s third phase, with an estimated investment of 36.83 billion baht. The project is currently in the design phase and is expected to open for bidding in 2024, with construction commencing in 2025. The new facilities are set to become operational by 2029. The key objectives of the development plan for Don Mueang Airport include expanding its capacity to accommodate passenger traffic, enhancing service quality for air and ground transportation systems, improving efficiency, and reducing congestion within the airport. Currently, the airport has a capacity of 30 million passengers annually. To accommodate an additional 50 million passengers per year, a third passenger terminal will be constructed, providing 160,000 square meters of usable space for international passengers. The existing passenger terminals 1 and 2 will be renovated to serve domestic passengers, with a total usable space of up to 240,000 square meters, effectively transforming Don Mueang Airport into a fully equipped domestic aviation center. The development plan will be divided into six segments. These include the construction of Passenger Terminal 3, the expansion of the northern concourse, and the development of operational zones, aircraft parking bays, and public utility systems. In addition to infrastructure development, the airport authority aims to enhance passenger services by implementing innovative solutions. These include self-check-in kiosks (CUSS), common-use bag drop machines (CUBD), and an automatic return tray system (ARTS) for baggage trays. Current estimates predict a gradual recovery in passenger numbers, reaching 95 million by the end of this year. AOT anticipates that the numbers will continue to grow, reaching 200 million by 2027. These projections align with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) forecast, which predicts a return to pre-Covid levels of global travel from 2023-2024. Politically, modern Thai history is on nobody’s side, but neither is the future. Therefore, a pretend and celebratory phone call to a late revolutionary reformist to say “We have made it” is a bit premature. First, history. It has been a Jerusalem-style ideological fight with rivals taking turns gaining or losing control for decades. The euphoria flooding the Move Forward camp immediately after the May 14 election overshadowed the fact that the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party won 376 House of Representatives seats in 2005. That was far more than twice the size of Move Forward. The Democrats captured 159 seats in 2011 but were unceremoniously placed in the opposition bloc. Pheu Thai secured 265 seats in that election but its government faced a massive and prolonged street protest and was finally toppled by Prayut Chan-o-cha’s tanks. The point is that even parties with bigger parliamentary numbers than Move Forward could not be guaranteed government leadership or stability. #news Full Story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/no-government-is-safe-in-any-way-shape-or-form/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2023-07-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The Democrat party, the country’s oldest, will meet this Sunday to elect new party leader, after suffering the biggest loss in its history in the May general election. The new party leader will replace Jurin Laksanawisit, who resigned shortly after the initial results of the general election showed the party’s big loss, particularly in Bangkok where it won no parliamentary seats at all. Since the party announced the date for the election of a new party leader, rumours, criticism and speculation have been spreading. Political observers have even detected internal rifts ahead of Sunday’s meeting. Based on the GPS systems installed in every truck, he said that the city administration has discovered that these rented trucks operate, on average, for less than half the time specified in the rental contract. “So, for the rest of the hours, the trucks are stationary. I wonder what is happening,” said the governor, as he addressed district chief officers and other city executives at a meeting yesterday (Thursday). #news Full Story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/bangkok-governor-says-citys-rented-garbage-trucks-are-underutilised/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2023-07-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. More than 19,000 of the 44,000 fire extinguishers, distributed by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to communities, district offices, volunteer units and public disaster prevention and mitigation offices in the capital, are in a bad condition and need to be replaced. Deputy Bangkok Governor Tavida Kamolvej said city officials checked all the fire extinguishers, to make sure that they are safe and in working condition, after an accident in early June at Rachawinit School, in which one student was killed and several others were injured when a fire extinguisher burst during a fire drill. She said all the extinguishers found to be in a poor condition have been recalled and are being sent to the BMA’s Office of Environment to be destroyed. #news Full Story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/over-19000-fire-extinguishers-in-bangkok-need-to-be-replaced/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2023-07-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Two individuals involved in the infamous retaliation on a former actor have handed themselves over to the police in central Thailand following charges of assault with a firearm. Surrendering their continued defiance, the accused are now seeking to nullify the previous false testimonies given against them. This account comes amid an intensive ongoing hunt for a third conspirator involved in the case. At 10.30am today, 45 year old Prasert, and 34 year old Surasak turned themselves in at the Bang Kruai Police Station, Nonthaburi. The pair were part of a trio with an arrest warrant issued against them following their implication in an armed robbery case, where they allegedly used a motor vehicle to evade arrest. The charges against the suspects include detention, possession of unauthorized firearms and live ammunition, and public weapon possession. The pair surrendered to Pol. Col. Kittisak Pontanarak of the Bang Kruai Police Station in Nonthaburi province following allegations made by their apparent victim, former actor Geng Metas, and his younger sibling on July 4. According to their testimonies, they were physically assaulted by three individuals led by Prasert. Geng’s assistant, Narupon, alleged that he had been bludgeoned by the handle of the firearm, resulting in a gory injury on his eyebrow. Meanwhile, Geng was punched in the face. The suspects then reportedly made off with a shoulder bag, reported KhaoSod.
