  8. Photo via Facebook/ ศูนย์ข้อมูลภูเก็ต Phuket Info Center CCTV footage captured two foreigners stealing cannabis from a pharmacy in Phuket. Fortunately, a member of staff caught them red-handed on the job. The Facebook page, Phuket Info Center, posted two videos of the incident yesterday, May 4, with a caption that said… “Warning! Foreigners stole cannabis from a shop on Rat U Thit 200 Years Road in the Patong neighbourhood near Patong Otop Shopping Paradise. One of them grabbed some cannabis and put it in his bag. He was caught after grabbing another packet of weed and accidentally dropped it.” In the video, the foreign man in a black shirt wearing sunglasses is seen distracting the seller by talking with her at the shop counter while the other foreigner, also wearing shades, in a white shirt grabs two packets of cannabis and puts them into his shoulder bag. He even looked into the security camera while doing so. Another video showed the same man pretending to be interested in another cannabis product. After he saw that the seller turned her back on him he immediately put the cannabis into his pocket. However, the product fell to the floor. 10. Photo courtesy of The Phuket News Efforts to remove illegal roadside signs throughout the Mai Khao area have been ramped up, following orders given by Sarawut Srisakukham, the Chief of the Mai Khao Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor). As part of the ongoing crackdown, officials have been tasked with identifying and dismantling any unauthorised signage, to help maintain order and cleanliness in the region. The campaign commenced earlier this week, with officers successfully taking down various illegally placed advertisements, including signs promoting a seafood restaurant, a local pub, a cannabis café in Phang Nga, and a housing project in Phuket. Interestingly, some of these unauthorised signs were located just a few metres away from lawful campaign posters for local election candidates, which remained untouched. In an online post, Mai Khao OrBorTor clarified the reasons for the removal of the offending signs, citing that they had been unlawfully installed without the necessary permits issued by the organisation. In Thailand, the placement of such signage is regulated under the Cleanliness and Orderliness of the Country Act 1992 and the Public Health Act 1992. Authorities are urging individuals to ensure they obtain the proper permissions before erecting any signs, thus helping to maintain a safe, organised, and visually appealing environment within the community. The decision to remove the illegal signs demonstrates the continued commitment of Mai Khao officials towards preserving the region’s cleanliness and adhering to established regulations. Furthermore, this proactive approach in ensuring that all signs comply with existing legislation sends a clear message: those seeking to bypass official channels will not be tolerated. Eighteen year old Kittisak “Zen” Thaweechokhirun, and his 18 year old girlfriend, Potchathawat “Mali” Sabumuang, last night reported the cash-filled bag they found at a shopping mall to officers at Meaung Ratchaburi Police Station. Mali told police that they arrived at the shopping mall at 2.30pm to watch a movie. After the movie date, they went to the shopping mall’s food court and spotted the bag on a chair. Mali notified a shopping mall staff member who opened the bag and discovered the large sum of money inside. The mall made an announcement asking for the owner of the bag to come forward, but nobody claimed it. The couple waited at the shopping mall until 5.30pm in the hope that the owner would come back for the bag, but nobody did. So, they reported it to the police. 14. Picture courtesy of Phuket News. The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) Region 6 office in Thailand has reported the discovery of a turtle nest on Koh Phra Thong island, located off the coast of Kuraburi District in Phang Nga province. Yesterday, a team of DMCR officials, along with a village chief assistant from Moo 3 Baan Koh Ra, inspected the turtle nest situated at Fai Wab Bay. Based on the tracks left in the sand, the officials estimated the turtle’s size to be 130 centimetres from one flipper tip to another, with a shell approximately 40 centimetres wide. However, the officers did not speculate on the species of the turtle that laid the eggs. According to a DMCR report, the exact number of eggs in the nest is yet to be determined, but it was observed that the nest is 51 centimetres deep and the eggs measure approximately 3.9 centimetres in length. Given that the nest has been positioned high enough above the high tide mark, the officials decided not to disturb it further, allowing the eggs to hatch naturally. 18. Last night, approximately 20,000 tourists attended the famous, or infamous, Full Moon Party on Koh Pha Ngan, which is expected to put tens of millions of baht into the pockets of locals on the southern island. The event was heavily guarded by police, immigration officers and local officials to ensure safety for partygoers as it spins back up to full speed following a few years when the party was closed down. The Full Moon Party is a well-known tourist magnet that takes place on the Gulf of Thailand island of Koh Pha Ngan, located a short ferry ride from it’s better-known (but slightly dowdier) island sister, Koh Samui. The beach party event has been taking place since the late 1980s when a group of bohemian tourists threw a small beach party to celebrate the full moon… inspired, apparently, with some chemical assistance. The event has grown in popularity since then and now attracts thousands of the hipster, beach party crowd from all over the world.
