BANGKOK (NNT) - The first group of 78 Thai evacuees from Sudan has been scheduled to arrive in Thailand at 10 PM tonight via Royal Thai Air Force aircraft. According to the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF), three of its aircraft, including an Airbus A340-500 and two C-130s, have arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, ready to repatriate Thai citizens. The head of the operation reported that the first group of 82 Thai citizens has arrived in Jeddah, 78 of whom will return on the first flight, while the remaining four will stay with relatives in Saudi Arabia. The 78 returnees have been provided with health care and initial screening by the RTAF medical team. All passengers are in good spirits despite fatigue. The Airbus A340-500 is scheduled to depart from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah at 2 PM Thailand time and will arrive at the 2nd Air Force Base in Don Mueang around 10 PM. The 11-day free parking period is expected to accommodate the rise in passengers at the airport during the Labor Day and Coronation Day long weekends. The owner of the elephant, Weerawat Triyot, said that he was on his way back to Chaiyaphum province after taking his 16 year old elephant Dan Siam to a festival in Phrae province, his hometown. Shortly after leaving the festival, Weerawat got stuck in a traffic jam. The traffic came to a total standstill so Weerawat decided to get out of the car into the heavy rain and lightning and have a look at what was going on. Four cars along, Weerawat saw a fallen tree blocking the road. He decided to let Dan Siam out of his vehicle and save the day. On Facebook Live, Dan Siam lifts the tree and launches it over the side of the road, opening up the way for the traffic. The Permanent Secretary of the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), Wichai Chaimongkon, released details of the arrests, of 28 year old Thai Bancha Anuja and 25 year old German Loris Michele Austero, to the media today. According to Wichai, on Thursday, April 20, an officer from the Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF) discovered a suspicious parcel shipped from Germany to a resort on Koh Pha Ngan. Wichai stated that an investigation began into the case on the same day. Inside the parcel, officers found scented candles in the shape of lotus flowers. Upon further inspection, they discovered 1,370 ecstasy tablets hidden inside the candles.
