BANGKOK (NNT) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has announced that Thailand’s car production rose by 4.16% year-on-year (YoY) in March, reaching 179,848 units, as the microchip shortage eased. FTI Automotive Industry Division Spokesperson Surapong Paisitpattanapong said at a news conference that car exports increased by 4.84% YoY in March, following an 11.42% rise in February. Surapong noted, however, that domestic car sales fell by 8.37% YoY in March, following a 3.94% drop in February, owing to tighter loans for trucks caused by a rise in interest rates. In February, Thailand’s car production rose by 6.39% YoY. Thailand is home to some of the world’s leading car manufacturers, such as Toyota and Honda, which utilize the country as a regional production and export base. Rising car production and exports are seen as positive signs for Thailand’s economy, which was severely impacted by the pandemic. The automotive industry has been one of the country’s most significant sources of income and employment, contributing to around 10% of Thailand’s GDP. Tax Revenue for H1 2023 Exceeded 60 Billion Baht BANGKOK (NNT) - The Customs Department has revealed that it has collected more than 60 billion baht in tax revenue for the first half of the 2023 fiscal year from October 2022 to March 2023. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1293194-tax-revenue-for-h1-2023-exceeded-60-billion-baht/ -
BANGKOK (NNT) - The Customs Department has revealed that it has collected more than 60 billion baht in tax revenue for the first half of the 2023 fiscal year from October 2022 to March 2023. Customs Department Deputy Director-General Phantong Loykulnanta explained that tax revenue during the period was 274 million baht higher than the same period last fiscal year - an increase of 0.5%. Customs revenue reached nearly 11.2 billion baht, surpassing the target by 21.6% due to special income from the Supreme Court’s ruling on a Toyota Prius case that resulted in Toyota paying a hefty fine of 7.6 billion baht. Previously, the court ruled that Toyota imported all of the parts for reassembly of the Prius and was not eligible for customs tax reduction or exemption. This resulted in Toyota paying additional tax and a fine penalty. Phantong also indicated that the main imported products subject to high customs duties include passenger cars, automotive components, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and luxury brand bags. Demand for pharmaceuticals and beauty enhancement products like botox and fillers has soared, as people are now more focused on health and wellness. In addition, the Customs Department has worked with the military, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau to tackle 98 narcotics-related cases. Moreover, the Customs Department has seized 4600 metric tons of illegally imported frozen pork, valued at 240 million baht. Phantong said smuggled pork has been continuously imported through cargo ships and abandoned at border checkpoints and ports. The majority of the smuggled pork comes from Brazil and other countries, with the popularity of hot pot and “shabu” meals leading to a high demand for pork - resulting in a surge of illegal imports to evade taxes. Hua Hin Airport, photo via Hua Hin Today. The number of international flights to and from Hua Hin Airport is expected to increase in the near future, according to John LaRoche, CEO of the Phoenix Group, which is leading the upgrade of the airport. Speaking at the recent meeting of the Royal Coast Riviera Club on Friday, April 21, LaRoche said that despite various setbacks, including the pandemic, more international flights were expected to arrive later this year. He said… “My personal opinion is that we will see the first international flight land just after the election, although I won’t speculate on the significance of that date.” Thailand will hold its general elections on May 14. The Phoenix Group has used the pandemic period to make several improvements to the airport to accommodate more flights, such as the construction of a perimeter fence to ensure security and the widening of the runway to meet international safety requirements. Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Phetchaburi authorities are currently working on a plan to relocate the large and mischievous macaque population at the Phra Nakhon Khiri historical park, better known as Khao Wang, to a place where they can live a more natural life and cause no disturbance to the peace, provincial governor Natthachai Nampoonsuksan announced on May 1. The number of monkeys in the district has now reached roughly 3,000, with a further 1,000-1,500 in each of the other neighbouring districts. Their growing population has caused them to spread out and look for food, instigating issues for residents, businesses and tourists. In an attempt to curtail their growing population, the Protected Area Regional Office 3 of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department put forth a sterilisation programme. However, this endeavour has yet to make a substantial impact in reducing their numbers. Consequently, it was deemed necessary to formulate a relocation plan for the monkeys at Khao Wang, although Governor Nampoonsuksan did not reveal the specific details of the proposed new habitat. Residents have expressed that a likely location for the troublesome creatures could be an island situated in the middle of the Kaeng Krachan Dam reservoir. Lululemon to open store in Thailand this July Canadian athletic apparel, accessories, and footwear brand lululemon athletica will open a store in CentralWorld in Bangkok this July. Canadian athletic apparel, accessories, and footwear brand lululemon athletica will open a store in CentralWorld in Bangkok this July. It will be the brand’s first store in Thailand. The brand did not give an exact date in July for the store’s opening on CentralWorld’s first floor opposite H&M Home – joining the mall’s newly-opened American burger joint Shake Shack. Lululemon is famous for the inception of the yoga pant. Yoga pants made from nylon and Lycra appeared on the market in 1998, sold by lululemon in its first store in Vancouver as “suitable attire for the yoga studio.” The growing popularity of yoga over the years, as well as the rise of informality in everyday dress, made the product and brand well-known all over the world. Now, the company has 574 stores worldwide – and soon to be 575. Now, the company sells not only rather expensive yoga pants but also shorts, sweaters, jackets, underwear, hair accessories, bags, yoga mats, water bottles, and personal care products. In 2004, founder Chip Wilson said in an interview that he chose the name lululemon because it was “funny to watch Japanese people try and say it.” That was “the only reason behind the name,” he said. Photo via Facebook/ ชุมชนข่าวขอนแก่น The skills of a child prodigy went viral on Thai social media after he created a traditional Thai tattoo (or Sak Yant) on a customer in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen. The 10 year old child prodigy, Nakrob “Puen” Sooksusi, is considered the youngest tattoo artist in Thailand. Sak Yant is a popular form of tattoo art in Thailand. It features geometrical and animal designs, often with Khmer script or Bali phrases believed to offer power, protection, charisma, fortune, and even immortality to those who wear them. The tattooing process is typically accompanied by a special ritual to consecrate the artwork, usually performed in a temple, sacred shrine, or the studio of a tattoo master or Ajarn. Puen learned the art of tattooing from his father, 46 year old Witthaya Sooksusi, known as Ajarn Aon Thep Munee Hermit. Puen has been learning Khmer script and practising tattooing since he was only five years old. Witthaya revealed during an interview with ThaiRath that he decided to end his career as a police officer to become a hermit and opened a Sak Yant studio and rehabilitation. He also kicked off a training course for anyone interested in learning the art of Sak Yant, while his tattoos have gained popularity in foreign countries as well. Witthaya explained that he encouraged Puen to learn to tattoo as he was addicted to his mobile phone and social media. He asked what Puen wanted to do, and Puen chose to practice tattooing. Witthaya said… “At first, I did not expect that Puen would be so skilled. I just wanted him to do other things instead of using a mobile phone. Puen started by drawing a tattoo pattern three years ago, and now he can tattoo customers. I monitored him at first, but right now he can do it alone. Many customers want to get a tattoo with Puen.” Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/child-prodigy-creates-mesmerizing-sak-yant-tattoo-in-khon-kaen-thailand -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-04-26 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
