  7. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Eastern Economic Corridor Office is fast-tracking five key investment projects, with a major focus on e-services. Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri elaborated that these projects are: 1. The high-speed railway linking Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, and U-Tapao airports, whose work on the design and construction of infrastructure is underway. 2. The expansion of U-Tapao Airport and Eastern Aviation City, for which the construction of runways, taxiways and public utilities - such as water and wastewater systems -- is progressing rapidly. 3. The 3rd phase of Laem Chabang Port, where land reclamation, building construction and support for those affected by the project are ongoing. 4. The 3rd phase of the Map Ta Phut Industrial Port, whose construction of a sand barrier for land reclamation has started. 5. The U-Tapao Aircraft Maintenance Center, which has been delayed due to Thai Airways’ ongoing recovery and private status. Anucha further indicated that the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) area has two types of special economic zones attracting investment. The first is dedicated for specific businesses, such as Eastern Aviation City (EECa), Digital and Industrial Innovation (EECd) and Eastern Special Economic Corridor Innovation (EECi). He added that the second zone is designated for industrial businesses, such as Hemaraj (เหมราช) Eastern Industrial Estate. Additionally, Anucha pointed out that all zones have passed environmental assessments. Land use in the EEC area is divided into four categories, which are urban and community areas, industrial areas, agricultural areas and environmental conservation areas. A comprehensive city plan for 30 districts in the EEC area is being prepared and is expected to be implemented by 2024. 15. Artid Sivahansaphan with politicians in favour of amending the Alcohol Control Act | Photo via Facebook page Baek Beer Hai Plia Kaem A court in central Thailand fined a man 150,000 baht and handed him a six-month suspended prison sentence for posting a picture and review of a craft beer on Facebook. He paid an additional 150,000 baht to be released on bail. In 2020, Artid Sivahansaphan posted a review on the Facebook page “Daek Beer Hai Plia Kaem,” a beer review page with thousands of followers. Nonthaburi Provincial Court ruled on Friday that Artid Sivahansaphan’s beer review violated Section 32 of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act (2008) which prohibits, “advertising or displaying, directly or indirectly, the name or trademark of any alcoholic beverage.” Breaking this law carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a 500,000 baht fine. The convicted alcohol advertiser said he plans to appeal his sentence in the hopes of doing rid of a draconian law that he believes is unfair to both consumers and small business owners. Initially, Nonthaburi Provincial Court sentenced Artid to eight months in prison and a 200,000 baht fine for “enticing” others to drink. The court then reduced his sentence to a six months prison sentence and a fine of 150,000 as well as an additional daily fine of 5000 baht per day. However, the sentence is suspended for two years. The court said the additional 5,000 baht daily fine was because Artid refused to “correct” the rest of his beer reviews on the Facebook page. Artid paid an additional 150,000 baht to be released on bail… Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime/thai-man-fined-and-sentenced-to-prison-over-craft-beer-review -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-04-25 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 17. Photo via Facebook/ ตำรวจภูธรจังหวัด ราชบุรี A Thai woman has been arrested for the alleged poisoning and killing of five people using cyanide. The arrest was made after the sudden and unexplained death of the alleged murderer’s most recent victim, Siriporn “Koy” Khanwong, a 32 year old Thai woman from the central province of Ratchaburi, on Saturday, April 1. Koy was found dead at the Baan Pong Pier in Ratchaburi at 9am on Friday, April 14. Koy reportedly went to the pier to make merit by releasing fish into the river with her Thai friend, later identified as Sararat “Am” Rangsiwuthaporn. The vendor who witnessed the incident reported that Koy went to the pier to release the fish alone and suddenly fainted. The rescue team came to the spot and provided her with CPR, but she did not respond to the operation. Koy was sent to the hospital and later pronounced dead from a heart attack. The vendor revealed that she was curious why Koy’s Thai friend, Am, did not come to help her and disappeared from the scene. The CCTV cameras at the place featured Koy and Am getting out of Am’s Toyota Vios sedan. The victim held a plastic bag of fish and went directly to the pier. However, the alleged murderer did not go with her. Instead, the Thai woman walked back and forth, as if she was waiting for someone. Koy fainted at the pier, but the footage showed that Am did not go to her aid, instead, she drove off with the victim’s belongings and mobile phone. Koy’s family was curious about her death as well and believed that the death was murder and that Koy’s friend, later identified as Sararat “Am” Rangsiwuthaporn, was involved. Koy’s sister, Nipawan “Som” Khanwong, reported that she learned that her sister went to the pier with Am because Koy posted about it on Facebook. She contacted Am immediately to ask about Koy, but Am claimed she had not gone to the pier with Koy and was in another province. 21. PHOTO: Srettha Thavisin (Facebook) The Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) has recently urged voters in Chiang Mai to vote for change in the upcoming general election. The party’s leader has advocated for a national reconciliation plan which, he claims, would lead to prosperity and sustainability for the country. Capt. Thamanat Prompow, head of the PPRP’s election strategy panel for the North, addressed a large crowd at a party rally in Chiang Mai’s Constituency 10. He emphasised that political divisions would only exacerbate the country’s existing issues. Capt. Thamanat explained that prosperity and sustainability cannot be achieved if the country is engulfed in political conflicts. This is the reason why the PPRP is campaigning to promote national unity and put an end to the political polarisation that plagues the nation. He said… “We’ll change Chiang Mai. We must dare to bring change.” Addressing the crowd, PPRP deputy leader Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn stated that if the party wins the May 14 election and is able to form the next administration, its first priority will be to reduce the cost of living. Chiang Mai has traditionally been a stronghold for the Pheu Thai Party and is the hometown of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Deputy leader of the PPRP, Paiboon Nititawan, issued a warning to pollsters to strictly comply with election laws when conducting opinion polls. He emphasised that while the law does not prohibit polling organisations from conducting surveys prior to the general election, it does not tolerate biased reporting. If pollsters are found to intentionally mislead the public or manipulate results to encourage support for a particular candidate, they risk the punishment of between one and ten years in prison, along with a fine of up to 200,000 baht and revocation of election rights. Paiboon highlighted that voters have the right to request the Election Commission (EC) investigate any pollsters they suspect of publishing misleading results. This serves to protect candidates from being placed at a disadvantage due to biased or manipulated surveys. Meanwhile, the Chartpattanakla Party expressed confidence that it will make progress in the southern region by winning seats in Phuket and Songkhla. Based on the feedback gathered from campaign rallies and internal polls, deputy leader Atavit Suwanpakdee believes the party could emerge victorious in both Phuket constituencies and Songkhla’s Constituency 2. 25. BANGKOK (NNT) - Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Anucha Nakasai this week visited Sathing Phra District of the southern province of Songkhla to promote an animal husbandry program. Minister Anucha presided over the opening ceremony of the initiative to strengthen the grassroots economy for sustainable national development. It aims to ensure the sustainable and strong development of villages and urban communities. Anucha revealed that while the industrial sector has increased Thailand’s overall GDP, the government wants to secure a stable economy by focusing on improving the quality of life for all citizens, starting with grassroots populations such as farmers and livestock groups. The National Village and Urban Community Fund plays a crucial role in pushing for community-driven projects to generate income for local communities. Thailand’s geography is suitable for agriculture and livestock farming, providing opportunities for Village Fund members to receive loans for raising cattle, buffalo, goats and sheep, with a family limit of 50,000 baht. It is expected that the investment will be returned in three years and profits will be generated from the fourth year onwards. This opening ceremony marks the fourth event of its kind, targeting Village Fund members from seven provinces comprising Songkhla, Satun, Trang, Phatthalung, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. The fifth iteration of the event is scheduled for Friday (28 Apr) in Ratchaburi Province.
