Facebook/Khayam Khan A nursery (child care centre) in the northeastern Thai province of Nong Bua Lamphu, which became the scene of Thailand’s deadliest mass killing, re-opens today. The Uthai Sawan nursery in the district of Na Klang hit the headlines 3 months ago, when a sacked police officer carried out a gun and knife attack that killed 36 people, most of them very young children. The perpetrator, Panya Khamrab, subsequently committed suicide immediately following the October 6 tragedy. His wife and young step-child were among his victims – he killed them before heading to the child care centre. Nation Thailand reports that yesterday, a religious ceremony was held to make merit for those who died and the nursery re-opens today, according to spokesperson Nanthicha Punchum. Nanthicha says that for a temporary period, the nursery will relocate to a classroom in a nearby school. This is to respect the wishes of parents who don’t want their children to be on site at the scene of such a violent and deadly attack. The plan is to build a new nursery eventually, to replace the existing facility, once a budget has been approved. According to the report, nursery staff have prepared 68 sets of clothes, including gym outfits, socks, shoes, backpacks, and mattresses, which will be given free of charge to today’s first class of children. They will also be transported to and from the facility in a dedicated vehicle, according to Nanthicha. Chuwit's New Year revelations - RTP chief scurrying RTP chief promises decisive action as Chuwit relishes his role as Whistleblower-in-Chief Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1282445-chuwits-new-year-revelations-rtp-chief-scurrying/ -
RTP chief promises decisive action as Chuwit relishes his role as Whistleblower-in-Chief Naew Na reported on developments after firebrand former politician, TV presenter and soapy massage boss Chuwit Kamolwisit made yet more revelations about shady "Grey Chinese" casinos on Facebook. Chuwit was in top form in his relatively new role as "Whistleblower-in-Chief", notes ASEAN NOW. Chuwit had posted pictures of a pile of cash being exchanged for chips at a casino run by Tohao or Chanat Kornchayanon. It was taken before the raid on the Jin Ling pub that blew the case open. "So there're no casinos in Bangkok then?" Chuwit had commented drily. He said there would be plenty more where that came from. Following the 31st December revelation he had more footage. He explained that casinos were not just casinos - there were pictures of ladies that were available. Why reveal now? Oh, Chuwit said he had some whistleblowing freetime that the chief might be interested in. Via his spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong, chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat has promsed a full investigation. Achayon said that no stone would be left uncovered in the investigation into the latest allegations. The chief was determined to eradicate illegal gambling and would stop at nothing to find the casinos, if they existed. He would additionally work tirelessly to ensure that none of his men were culpable in the gambling setups. Woe betide if they were! The chief would come down on them like a ton of disciplinary bricks. He also denied categorically that anyone had been released who should be in custody. ASEAN NOW suggests that Chuwit's frequent posts and revelations are a sideshow to the main event regarding the raiding of the Jin Ling and all its fallout - asset seizures. But Chuwit has a huge following and is aided and abetted by the press. He is someone that RTP chief Damrongsak can't ignore. So long as Chuwit keeps digging up stuff he will be obliged to investigate. It now appears that the chief has adopted an anti-gambling public stance as one of his drives. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-01-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Video: Welcome to Thailand; first you die then this happens! Thai Rath reporters went to investigate in the north eastern province of Roi-Et after a video on TikTok went viral. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1282436-video-welcome-to-thailand-first-you-die-then-this-happens/ -
Thai Rath reporters went to investigate in the north eastern province of Roi-Et after a video on TikTok went viral. It featured a pick-up coming out of a soi at some speed. Unfortunately the load on the back - a refrigerated coffin - comes off into the road. Then slids along the tarmac coming to rest outside a grocer's. The driver soon stops but the coffin is too heavy for him and a man comes to help him load it back on. Grocer in the Nam Kham Yai estate Kot Singthong said he was serving a customer in his shop when he heard a loud bang. VIDEO: https://www.thairath.co.th/news/local/northeast/2593805 He looked out in the street and saw a coffin hurtling towards him. He got an emplyee to help the pick-up driver get the coffin back on and the driver secured it in place. The post got a lot of attention especially as Kot had said when posting the footage: "Wrong house - don't need a coffin here just yet," along with some hashtags like #coolcoffin. Comment from Thai netizens was rife with a lot of teasing as well as some serious stuff about tying on loads and not causing accidents. Fortunately the coffin was empty and after the incident continued on to a funeral. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-01-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. BANGKOK (NNT) - The latest iteration of the Shop Dee Mee Khuen program commenced on January 1. The program is aimed at stimulating spending and helping stores and sellers increase volume. Shopping malls and petrol stations are now issuing more detailed tax invoices to buyers who intend to make use of the program. Many people were shopping at The Mall Ngamwongwan department store in Bangkok and making use of the Shop Dee Mee Khuen program. This was especially true of daily necessities, clothes, electrical appliances, and New Year’s gifts. Department store employees said many people had visited during the New Year’s break and this purchased a large number of items. This resulted in some delay in issuing tax invoices, which the mall addressed by adding invoice issuing stations. Most of the visitors interviewed by NBT said they planned to make use of Shop Dee Mee Khuen. They said the program benefits both the public and stores. This is the first time the program is allowing expenses incurred from fuel purchases at oil service stations to be counted toward the income tax deduction. Many people were asking for tax invoices at petrol stations today. Those interviewed spoke positively of the addition of fuel expense to items that may be considered for the tax deduction, saying fuel is something they need to buy in any case.To get a valid tax invoice from petrol stations, the fuel buyer should inform the staff of their name, address, postcode, citizen identification number, and car license plate number. People may continue to spend under the Shop Dee Mee Khuen program until February 15. Thailand prepares for influx of Chinese tourists BANGKOK (NNT) - Government officials will be convening on Thursday to consider the most appropriate protocols for visitors from China, following the Chinese government’s decision to lift its international travel restrictions this Sunday. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1282432-thailand-prepares-for-influx-of-chinese-tourists/ -
BANGKOK (NNT) - Government officials will be convening on Thursday to consider the most appropriate protocols for visitors from China, following the Chinese government’s decision to lift its international travel restrictions this Sunday. Officials in Thailand are now anticipating an influx of visitors from China this year, as the Chinese government is lifting its restrictions on international travel that have effectively prevented its citizens from spending holidays abroad. With the restrictions to be lifted on 8 January, visitors from China will start arriving in large numbers from 15 January. Around 50,000 tourists from China are expected to visit Thailand in January. The number is expected to reach 300,000 per month in the first quarter, provided that more flights resume, while the overall visitor number from China this year is expected to be around 5 million, which is less than the pre-pandemic number of 11 million. The Thai officials will be meeting this Thursday to consider whether to implement any measures specifically for travelers from China, due to reports of widespread COVID-19 transmissions. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul said the Department of Disease Control has been in discussion with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and the Ministry of Transport on this matter. He said the measures applied for visitors from China would be similar to the existing measures, adding that the visitors would already be subject to exit regulations imposed by Chinese authorities, which include RT-PCR tests, and a record of 3 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. The Minister of Public Health said visitors from China may be asked to show their record of full vaccination upon arrival, without the need of taking another COVID-19 test, adding that any measures imposed will need to strike a balance between public health and economic opportunities. Father sought after three year old found dead - her mouth was stuffed with earth in a field Thai Rath reported on a tragic murder that took place in a cassava field 300 meters behind a house in Ban Rai, Lat Yao, Nakhon Sawan, central/north Thailand. Thai Rath reported on a tragic murder that took place in a cassava field 300 meters behind a house in Ban Rai, Lat Yao, Nakhon Sawan, central/north Thailand. A 55 year old lady called Anongnak Pannon was sleeping soundly with her three year old granddaughter who she had cared for since birth. She was suddenly awoken at 4 am by her son Ronnachai Pannon, 27, who told her a water pipe had burst in the bathroom. She went to look and found that was not the case. When she returned to her bedroom she saw Ronnachai running out cradling the three year old Nareeman Pannon. She chased after him but it was dark and she lost him in the field behind their house so she decided to enlist the help of neighbors to find her son and granddaughter. They then made a grim discovery. They found the lifeless body of Nareeman in a ditch with her mouth stuffed with earth. She was dead. When Lat Yao police arrived with rescue services shortly thereafter they further discovered that there were no injuries on the body. Anongnak said that she saw her son flee on a black motorcycle. Police believed he could not go far, the tank was half empty and he had no money. Police colonel Wattanakit Chaleoprakhon confirmed these details and said they continued the search for Ronnachai and a warrant would be issued today. The grandmother had told them that Ronnachai had been on a New Year binge and had not slept for days. She believed he might have been taking drugs as well as consuming booze. Thai Rath did not report any prior history of assault or drug abuse in this story, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-01-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thailand’s real estate sector did not fully recover in 2022 due mainly to the economic decline and the impacts of the Russia-Ukraine war as well as higher inflation and interest rates. But while the expected recovery did not happen, the overall outlook gives new hope for 2023. The improved CCI (Consumer Confidence Index), which has continued to rise for six consecutive years, currently stands at 47.9, the highest in 20 years, signalling that consumers’ spending confidence is back. Another factor that has supported the property industry is the Bank of Thailand’s continued loan relaxation (Loan-to-Value: LTV), which is about to end. It has successfully encouraged customers with real demand to purchase property units. Home-buyers prioritize location when it comes to making a decision, according to leading real estate website DDproperty. In DDproperty’s Thailand latest Consumer Sentiment Study, 53% of respondents said they look for a project with access to public transportation and 50% say that location is number one factor to decide whether to purchase or not. The study, which covered the period January to November 2022, reveals that surrounding provinces have beaten key tourism destinations in terms of preferred housing choices. Bangkok is still top of the list for home-buyers followed by Nonthaburi, Samui Prakan, Pathum Thani and Chon Buri respectively. Famous tourist spots such as Chiang Mai (6th), Prachuab Khiri Khan (7th) and Phuket (8th) didn’t make it into the top 5.
