Students arrive for classes at Ricardo P. Cruz elementary school in Taguig city, suburban Manila on December 6, 2021, after authorities loosened COVID-19 coronavirus restrictions to allow limited in-person classes in the capital city. AFP / Ted Aljibe MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health will set up vaccination sites in schools in a bid to encourage students and their parents to get inoculated against COVID-19, the agency’s officer-in-charge said. Setting up COVID-19 immunization sites in schools may also persuade unvaccinated teaching and non-teaching personnel to get COVID-19 jabs, Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel. Vergeire stressed that coronavirus vaccination is not required when students return to schools for face-to-face classes. Rosario Vergeire, officer-in-charge of the health department, said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel. “So we will study this thoroughly so we can provide recommendations to our president,” she added. A hotel housekeeper stumbled upon a skeleton that reportedly belonged to a missing 79-year-old Canadian man in an abandoned field behind a hotel in Pattaya. Pol. Capt. Puttharak Sonkhamhan of the Pattaya Police Station responded to a report of a human skeleton being found in an abandoned field in the Nongprue subdistrict of Banglamung today, Friday, July 15th, at 12:30 PM. The incident scene was a grassy, empty field behind a hotel (name withheld). The skeleton reportedly belonged to Mr. Glenn (full name held pending family and embassy notification), a 79-year-old Canadian man, based on a passport found beside the skeleton. The officers also found a white shirt and dark pants with 300 Canadian dollars in the pocket. Da Phomthung, a hotel housekeeper who discovered the skeleton, said she was just picking up wild water plants in the field when she smelled something rotten in the breeze. She then followed the scent and discovered a skeleton, which she initially mistook for an animal carcass but realized upon closer inspection that it was a human skeleton, prompting her to call the police. Government Launches All-in-One App to Enhance Public Services BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai government has launched an all-in-one mobile application to provide services and act as an online channel for receiving public complaints and suggestions. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai government has launched an all-in-one mobile application to provide services and act as an online channel for receiving public complaints and suggestions. Anucha Nakasai, Minister attached to the Office of the Prime Minister, and General Akanit Muensawat, Chairman of the State Administration Commission, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 12 for the launch of the so-called “Tang Raat” app (Government Application). The mobile application was created by experts and staff from seven government agencies, including the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Ministry of Interior, the Office of the Permanent Secretary, the Public Sector Development Commission, the Public Relations Department, the Office of the Consumer Protection Board, and the Digital Government Development Agency (Public Organization). The application, which is integrated with a One Stop Service function, enables users to directly contact the Dumrongtham center in their respective provinces or its hotline 1111 to lodge complaints. In addition, users have the option of contacting the Office of the Consumer Protection Board, receiving various government services via a citizen portal website at www.info.go.th, paying their bills, and obtaining vital information regarding their benefits. According to Anucha, the mobile application is a component of the 20-year national strategy (2018 - 2037) to provide all Thais with essential government services through the One Stop Service (OSS) network. General Akanit, speaking in his capacity as a senator, stated that the launch of the "State Application" demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving its services and making them easily accessible to the public. He added that such a campaign enables the comprehensive and seamless delivery of all government services to the public, as well as the realization of Thailand’s digital government that is prepared for a post-pandemic world and future challenges. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thailand to Tighten Air Quality Safety Standards BANGKOK (NNT) - The National Environmental Board has approved the Pollution Control Department’s proposal to tighten the air quality safety standard by reducing the acceptable level of PM2.5 dust in the atmosphere from an average of 50 micrograms per cubic meter (g/m3) per 24 hours to 37.5 g/m3 per 24 hours. BANGKOK (NNT) - The National Environmental Board has approved the Pollution Control Department’s proposal to tighten the air quality safety standard by reducing the acceptable level of PM2.5 dust in the atmosphere from an average of 50 micrograms per cubic meter (g/m3) per 24 hours to 37.5 g/m3 per 24 hours. The new requirement will go into effect on June 1, 2023. According to Attapol Charoenchansa, the general director of the Department of Pollution Control, the 50g/m3 safety standard has been in effect for more than ten years, however stricter emission controls are urgently needed to improve Thailand’s air quality and environment for public health. With the announcement published on the Royal Gazette website, Attapol stated that Thailand will also work to reduce the safe annual average concentration of PM2.5 in the atmosphere from 25g/m3 to 15g/m3. The new standard will align with those of the United States, the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. The World Health Organization (WHO) has established guidelines on outdoor (ambient) air pollution levels, which are widely used by policymakers worldwide to establish standards and objectives for air quality management. The revised guidelines stipulate that annual average concentrations of PM2.5 should not exceed 5 g/m3 and that 24-hour average exposures should not exceed 15 g/m3 for more than three to four days per year. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Doctors Warn About Health Risks Caused by Vaping Cannabis BANGKOK (NNT) - Doctors have warned about the dangers of the recreational use of e-cigarettes that contain cannabis, stating that it can cause lung damage and acute respiratory failure. BANGKOK (NNT) - Doctors have warned about the dangers of the recreational use of e-cigarettes that contain cannabis, stating that it can cause lung damage and acute respiratory failure. Associate professor of the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University Dr Thira Woratanarat warned about the dangers of vaping cannabis oil, citing information from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to reports, U.S. teenagers were found to have acute pneumonia from using e-cigarettes containing cannabis extract in 2019-2020, with data up to 2020 indicating that 2,807 people registered as having developed such symptoms. Recreational cannabis use has been recently legalized in many US states, raising concerns that the products which differ from joints smoked in the past could potentially cause harmful effects, particularly in teenagers. Thai doctors have also expressed concerns about this issue, noting that vaping cannabis has grown in popularity due to its affordable price and easy accessibility. They are also concerned that after trying these simple products, young people will be tempted to try other products containing a higher percentage of cannabis, such as a cannabis joint. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. BANGKOK (NNT) - An official poll shows Thai people have become more relaxed with the preventative measures against COVID-19, which include mask wearing, social distancing, and hand hygiene. The poll, conducted in June and July by the Department of Health, shows the number of people observing physical distancing dropped from 81.9% to 78.7%, while the number of respondents wearing a mask at all times in public settings dropped from 95.1% to 94.8%. The number of respondents who practiced frequent hand cleaning also declined from 89.7% to 88.9%. Respondents said they noticed fewer hand cleaning stations, from 89.7% down to 81.8%, and fewer places with good ventilation, from 58.7% to 53%. Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoen, Director General of the Department of Health, has asked the general public to continue observing the preventative measures, in line with the government’s Universal Protection guideline. Mask wearing is still recommended in crowded settings and at gathering events where physical distancing cannot be effectively enforced, as well as in places with poor ventilation. People with a higher risk of developing more serious COVID-19 symptoms, including the elderly, people with underlying health conditions, and pregnant women, are recommended to wear a properly fitted mask at all times around other people. The department also encourages attractions welcoming tourists this long weekend holidays to provide adequate hand cleaning stations and ensure good ventilation inside their venues, in order to improve confidence and safety among travelers. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. BANGKOK (NNT) - The price of palm fruit has been falling and this is being reflected in the prices of bottled palm oil in the market. The price of a bottle has dropped by 5-6 baht and the commerce minister believes further reductions will be seen. Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit inspected the prices of bottled palm oil at a Makro store in Nonthaburi. He found that prices have dropped by 5-6 baht, with the cheapest bottle sold at 62 baht. Mr. Jurin said the Department of Internal Trade will negotiate with the relevant businesses next week as it expects prices can be further reduced. Said price reduction will not be immediate despite the palm fruit price continuing to fall. Mr. Jurin explained that bottled palm oil currently on the market was produced when palm fruit was more expensive. The current stock is expected to be sold within a month. Meanwhile, commerce ministry officials are inspecting the weighing scales of buyers of the palm fruit. This is to prevent palm growers from being exploited at a time when the price of their crop is dropping. Mr. Jurin said 47 offenders have already been discovered. The commerce minister said officials are checking on prices in all categories of items to make sure products at sold at prices that reflect costs. Prices of items must also be displayed. Sellers who violate these requirements may be reported to hotline number 1569. Mr. Jurin also revealed he has accepted for consideration a price raise request from canned food manufacturers. He said their costs will be looked into. Similar price raise requests are also being made for many other items. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
