  14. BANGKOK (NNT) - In anticipation of higher concentrations of airborne dust after the rainy season subsides, Bangkok officials have inspected dust mitigation measures at concrete plants. The inspections were conducted in Bangkok’s Rama 9 area. Deputy Bangkok Governor Chakkapan Phew-ngam recently inspected operations at Siam City Concrete Co Ltd in the Rama 9 area. Participating in the inspection were officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)’s Environment Department and Huai Khwang district office. Chakkapan said there are as many as 10 concrete plants in the area, which necessitated inspections to ensure that concrete mixing activities were not contributing to urban air pollution. He added that Bangkok records high concentrations of PM2.5 particles every year during the dry season, which naturally starts at around the end of the rainy season. The deputy governor said today’s inspection aimed to ensure that dust prevention measures are in place during loading, mixing and other work processes. He explained that water sprays can also keep dust levels down when gravel, mortar and sand are delivered to mixing sites. Additionally, truck wheels should be hosed down and truck beds covered with sheets. The deputy governor noted that the concrete plants inspected have diligently implemented such measures, which have significantly helped mitigate issues related to airborne dust.
