  1. Americans have to pay taxes even if they live outside the country for the entire year. No escaping those. Not sure how it works for EUR/AUS/UK residents. Can those citizens really border hop and pay no taxes to their home country? This year I spent 176 days in Thailand My usual spend in Thailand for the last 5 years has been about 100k/month. None of that 100k is spent on rent as I own a condo. Thailand lost ฿600k of spending. More in GDP when the velocity of money is factored in. It’s a small amount in the big picture but the people whose businesses I patronized (doctors, restaurants, massage, etc.) would have preferred me to have stayed. If they decide before tax time in 2025 to tax total global income (not just remitted income) I would have had to pay an additional ฿400,000-500,000 in taxes due to the way they treat long term capital gains tax 25%-30% vs the US 15% If they only tax remitted money, I would have had to pay less tax but still… No thanks! No taxation without representation! If they want me to stay and pay taxes then they will have to offer something such as the social healthcare plan @ ฿600/month
  2. More than once the MSM would trot out the “healthy young people are dying from Covid” canard. I would then go digging around the internet and find these people….usually their Facebook profiles which had all the condolences written on them. Every single one of them was obese. Every. One. No exceptions.
  3. I’ve kept my mouth shut for the most part. This is what happened to me shortly after putting my fingers inside a vaxxed nurse from a prominent hospital here. It affected another part too. No…it wasn’t from Covid. I went and had blood tests for the antibodies and it was negative. I have NEVER come down with Covid. Ever. Following some of the protocols…but mostly, eating a strict carnivore diet (lion diet) has helped more than the immunosuppressants (methotrexate) that my doctor put me on. When I go off the diet, the problems start to resurface. I’m not the only one having problems either. The doctors won’t say much in public, but in private, it’s a different story. They all have mortgages to pay. There is a lot of infighting going on between pro and anti-vax doctors currently.
  4. The horrors. Oh….I’m feeling faint. Please get me my smelling salts. Next you’ll be telling me about all the healthy young’uns who died from that awful disease.
  5. YouTube would censor that video in a minute. Of course, you (as you claim) get your information from the “Herman Cane awards thread” on Reddit where you leftist jab fanatics like to make fun of the unvaccinated that died. Real classy. I’m just showing you the flipside of that coin.
  6. You seem incredulous that someone might actually like it in Da Nang. You don’t. Fine. Up to you.
  7. You said it right here. Lots of human turds laying around the streets and on the beaches.
  8. Not getting it at all here in Da Nang. Even at the Son Tra night market, nobody was exceptionally pushy other than the foot massage places and the people selling the lobsters (you can read all the bad reviews about that place on yelp). But in general, it is nothing like Hoan Kiem in Hanoi which is the only other place I’ve been in Vietnam. Hanoi was completely different and just as you describe. I’m not trying to sell anything here. I’d prefer to be back in my luxury condo in BKK tooling around Thailand in my convertible. But the unresolved tax issue in Thailand is forcing me out for 186 days a year. I’m just presenting this as an option that is surprisingly pleasant (for me at least) and would be something for people on lower budgets to consider. I wasn’t expecting to like Da Nang any more than Hanoi (a city that I wouldn’t want to live in)…but….what can I say. It’s pretty nice.
  9. Ok. Gotcha. Da Nang has tons of traffic, it’s impossible to cross the street and there are human turds everywhere. You should stay away.
  10. I see that’s right up by the Big C. Yeah….that area is busier but really no need to go there often. Certainly wouldn’t be hanging out there. Down by the beach where most expats hang out in the May Khe area it’s much more mellow. There are also some underpasses to get across the beach road.
  11. You just have to walk across in the Vietnamese way. Slowly at a constant pace and they’ll avoid you. That’s what I was taught in Hanoi. It definitely took balls of steel but surprisingly, it works. Hanoi traffic… IMG_0194.mov
  12. PM Rattlesnake for the detox protocol. Carnivore diet also helps (autophagy)
  13. Substitute Lumbrokinase for the Nattokinase. More expensive but much stronger. I’ve used it before for other issues.
  14. It’s about 3km from the city center (across dragon bridge) and they’re still building like crazy. I’m not sure who is buying the places and some seem to have stalled (future ghost buildings?). It will be great for downward pressure on the already low rents. I’m not seeing much traffic but it’s not high season yet. Haven’t seen any of these turds you’re talking about. I think it’s pretty nice here myself.
  15. I guess you didn’t take Mai Lin taxi? The green ones. I have heard that all the others are scammers. Now, all I have been using is Grab and there are so many of them that they are at my place within minutes. I’d be happy with Thailand too but the tax situation is forcing me out and until things are 100% clear as to what the final verdict will be, I’m hedging my bets and spending half the year outside of the country both back in the US and in Vietnam.
  16. I’m thinking of offering to sell my unit back to the developer as it’s the most desirable line in the building (with none left for sale) and they are actually renting for ฿100,000/month on Airbnb (with a 4.9 rating, 39 reviews) on much lower floors (I’m 150 meters above the street) and not fully renovated to the same standard as mine. I can only imagine what the developer is asking….or maybe it’s the developers units that I’m seeing on Airbnb. Regardless….it’ll be a great selling point when I point out what the units can rent for. So maybe, in my particular situation, the AirBnB fiasco will work to my advantage.
  17. I agree about Hanoi. I had to deal with the “shoe repair” guy scam on the street, an angry Samlor tour guide who pedaled my gf and I around the lake and then demanded double payment at the end even after a price was agreed upon, the cigarette lighter sellers who would follow you down the street with their basket of zippos and won’t take no for an answer so you just have to pretend they are invisible. It’s night and day from Da Nang. 100%
  18. Doesn’t surprise me in the least 😄 I don’t want to make waves as the developer was super cool with me and let me stay in an empty unit for free for 4 months while I renovated my place.
  19. The only checkpoint I encountered was on the road between Tak and Mae Sariang. And it was staffed by clowns. Literally.
  20. So far, it doesn’t seem to be an issue. I’ve never even attended a single board meeting since the condo opened 4 years ago. I don’t know how people are passing the facial scanner but there is a shophouse down the street with all the lockboxes for keycards for the individual owners who are renting them out on Airbnb. If I ever get an Airbnb person in the adjoining unit (only one common wall) making too much noise…I have the stereo system from hell with a 12” subwoofer in order to “fight fire with fire” if the concierge can’t handle it before it reaches that level.
  21. I thought that they had a checkpoint driving onto Phuket where vaccination status was checked. I guess that wasn’t the case?
  22. Nothing can be done. The developer is doing the same thing with unsold units.
  23. Have facial scanning at my condo in Bangkok. Doesn’t keep out the Airbnb crowd. Thankfully none of them are on my floor.
  24. The first MRNA jabs didn’t work as intended. This time, they’ll get it right.
  25. Instead of a POTY (poster of the year) award, we need a BOTY (blowhard of the year award. Refined? Not me. I was expelled from one of the “Group of Seven” schools. https://fitzgabrielsschools.com/2024/02/13/group-of-seven/
