  1. Hi madsere,

here you find almost every channel in the world with frequency, type of encryption polarisation ect. lyngsat.com

    Hi monty,

What i meant was. Are there sattelite shops in that sell standard equipment like dish switches and different brands of digital receivers with pcmcia flash cards ect ..

And maybe even flash programmers ?? :o I could get them over the net but is easyer if you have a shop nearby.

i had them before in Belgium so prefere to install myself then to pay ubc 10000 bath for putting up a dish. At least would be able to have a look at other sat's out here.

    Thanks

    Bart

  2. Wai returned :D

Probably wrong but who cares anyway.

I just see that even if i'm completely doing it wrong all the time,

Most Thai's at least respect me for trying.

I wouldn't go so far to say that you shouldn't.

    By the way:

Went to What doi suthep today. got a good laugh from some thai seeing me playing with the sticks. They really didn't seem to understand that a fat farang could do that. A woman asked my wife if i was a buddhist, when she replied yes, the woman was very respectfull about it. In 20 seconds apart we got 2 very different opinions.

And yes i probably do things wrong there all the time since i'm not raised in the buddhist tradition. Which doesn't mean i was not a buddhist from birth.

I would say that Respect As Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder..

A wrong gesture will only make you lose it with ignorant people. Wise people will see through the gesture.

Beside You can only learn to do things good when you start trying and make mistakes at first. That's a universal law.

    sllurp....

Window on my Ford ranger sure taste bad :o

    :D:D

  3. the sattelite kabel can also be split is you have two decoders in the house.

You probably need a uds switch (or something similar , sorry forgot the name) that can swith the sattelite channel.

Or you can also install a second LNB on your dish to receive another sattelite at the same time which uses a second cable.

In europe i could get ASTRA en HOTBIRD like that. I don't think you can get Thaicom (ubc) twice because the lnb's would need to be inline which is pratically impossible.

By the way are there any shops in thailand that sell Sattelite dishes and digital receivers without it has something to do with ubc? Not the really big ones you see everywhere but the standard 80 cm dish?

  4. Sorry HRH

    I'm not an english teacher.

You can call me what you want , i know it doesn't reflect that much on me.

I'm not that quickly insulted :o

it's just text on a screen , how can it touch my being?

By the way , you can at least agree that i was right about cutethaigirl.

    check it out for yourself

    cutethaigirl

If somebody has 9 post and is a newbie , but talks like an expert there is always something fishy.

Now Don't fall in love with Amazingthaigirl you hear ?

  5. Thanks blue,

    :D

By the way , i don't to pretend i'm always right but at least i can hold a discussion without getting personal and worked up about it.

Some people don't understand that there's nothing more boring than a forum with Stupid One line joky comments (like the one i wrote above) :-)

I always fail to see why people get worked up about text on a screen when the only thing they are getting angry about is THEIR interpretation of it.

Take some distance , read it a second time.

    Agree or disagree,

Scroll further if you don't like it

    delete it,

or join the discussion and reply with a funded answer.

Don't get pissed about it, My text can't make you angry, you can only do it yourself.

Oh well, off to licking some windows again :o

Take it from me, and the others your $2000 will just cover the fine if they catch you.

We, as in my wife did it once and that was a good few years ago . Seemed easy and cheaper than a flight so Passport went. She did not, and 5 year old sons too.

Now she is a teacher and has had many work permnits and the visas.

Last week they checked a lot and now she has NO VISA NO WORKPERMIT and a pile of %%%%% to sort out.

If you think you are special then good luck my friend.

    Maybe you're alter ego ??

beside's why didn't you keep the non edited post of two minutes ago ?

  7. hi chiangmai thai

is this the same as the TOT promotion of 600 bath for 512k ?

And are you in the city where it is possible or outside?

  8. Give a copy,

if they keep on insisting, laugh and walk to the next guy. I was always able to rent Big motorbikes in pattaya with a copy. if the first one won't the second one will.

What happens if it gets "lost" somehow when you give it. Do you think you have any recourse in getting it back.

It's the one thing you should never give out to somebody else. Without a passport you are nobody in a foreign country.

  9. For HAroihenry

As this thread is focussed on etiquette, I find it ironic to read a farang ( Zen D ) correcting CTG ( Whom I assume is either a pretty Thai national of female persuasion, or an alias of arcane manufacture), on Thai customs. Without even showing the lady the courtesy of replying to her by name!
Firts of all , I was giving My opinion through my experience without meaning to diss CTG, this post was not intended to be a reply to "her??" post.

The fact that you assume that "SHE's a THAI national" Shows only how much you know about Forums as i will demonstrate right after this post. In review of her englisch and style of writing i would presume she is not a thai national ... If she is a extend an apology beforehand... it doesn't really matter anyway..

With all due respect, ZenD, six months in Pattaya qualifies you to correct nobody but those with less experience than yourself of experiencing whatever broad(sic) spectrum of life experiences you've survuved in that time. Try applying that premise to life and be amazed by your sudden rise in popularity.

My post were ment to aid those with less experience coming here. They are merely an expression of my experience. Read it , if you like it ok, if you hate same ok for me, delete for all i care.. My post are not there to instegate popularity cause i really don't give a hoot...Neither are they there to BE no 1 in ranking or popularity "hey doctor". They at least give you something to think about and are not Dumbed up onliners.... Wether you like them or not is not the point ....

A sixth month old Thai child will probably know more than you appear to about Thai culture. And, probably, respect.
A six month old knows " im hungry give me food" and that's about it. Luckily they are not spoiled by anybody's culture yet , be it thai or otherwise...Did you ever consider that disagreeing maybe even respecting somebody more ????
I really mean you no malice ZD. I'm sure you'll look back and see what I mean. It's not just you though, there is a low grade of disrespecting ('dissing) going on in many forms on this forum. Could we please remember that a lot of members and guests are actually Thai and should not be spoken about as if not present

As said this is your assumption and not my meaning. i never speak about somebody as if not present. I am well aware thai people read this thing as many other nationalities do to. I'm even willing to discuss my thoughts in person with them , they will see they have a wrong opinion in their head about me. It's not because my post are confronting that they don't hold a bit of truth in them. Get out of your ego and see what is really said...

I'll know demonstrate how you change gender and nationality.

  10. hi it,

my friend has his german shepherd brought over in a few weeks.

He checked with the department of livestock for their rules.

They actually didn't really know as they did need to handle it before but now they don't anymore for some reason.

He is told know to be at the airport when his dog arrives. The dogs needs to be checked before departure by a vet and needs to carry a certificate of good health. It also needs anti rabies vaccination.

When it arrives they tell him to be there to collect it straight away and have it checked out by local vet after which he can take it home. No quarentine is normally necessary.

Don't know if you can collect it straight a way when you arrive.

  11. hi giorgio

you can have her come over when you garentee for her for A year. You need to pickup first a paper for this at your local city hall. You will need to document income of yours supporting that you can support her.

When i checked it was 1200 euro a month minimum. You need to send this to the belgium embassy who may take up to two months for an answer. It also helps if you take out a health insurance for her ( 125 euro monthly !!)

You need to register as "Samenwonend" at the city hall and you'll have equal rights to married couples now.

It also helps if you come to thailand and make an appointment with the embassy yourself to present your papers. They will allow you to come in the afternoon.

This is a foreigner tempary visa for 1 year, not a tourist one.

If you insist on having her visit with a tourist visa , there is not much else you can do. She can of course apply to holland or germany and then walk across the border to your house :-)

Holland is less strict but needs a supporting letter from a dutch citizen.

I'm a belgian citizen in thailand now so if you need some more info PM me.

  12. As i see Thais interacting everyday i don't believe there is a relevance to "who goes first"

There is a relevance in respect to how high a wai is, how long it is being kept.

Of course there is also a relavance to how old the other person is..

I also don't know of Western people who will be first trying to shake hands with a kid.

When the kid sticks out their hand you accept it. Whe also put respect in the pressing duration and force of the hand. Thais put it in the duration and hight of the wai.

As explained by a thai friend of mine , basically it's the same as shaking somebody's hand. In the western world you also only shake somebody's hand once a day maximum , otherwise you become wierd. Mostly not with close friends every time ect..

Thais use exactly the same principle. If you are new to a group there is no harm as a farang to way first even if your so called status is higher. It shows respect to their culture and ways. Mostly they will also try to shake your hand as respect for your culture.

In a group social situation it is the newcomers who will way first. the rest will return the wai. In business it is indeed the subordinate who will way first.

Depending on the region you are in thailand the way is more or less used due to western influence ect.

I stayed in pattaya for 6 months were the wai instegated by a farang is never returned , this probably due to the fact they actually see farang as money cows and that's it.

Now i stay in chiangmai and i automattically started waying and returning ways since i see that here it has still it's original meaning and is also used by everybody in the thai community.

Even if you would make a mistake against it , they wil still accept it as a sign of respect for their culture and ways. It in the end can only make you interact with them on in better terms and gain you some points on their scoring list.

I actually find farangs not returning their Way with at least a litlle head nod the most arrogant of them all. I found the Japanese style head nod a very convenient intermediary solution for the people who are unsure about waying.

Mostly thais are equally confused about waying to a farang as you are to them since they are more shy to come and shake your hand as they are also not really sure how to proceed in the beginning. Only thais with foreign education or experience will offer a handshake with no hesitation.

Because you wai them first doesn't imply that they know they can take advantage of you.

Social class is transmitted by much more then a way, by your clothes, your car, your cell phone model :-) by your neigborhood you live in ect..

Thais upon meeting you for the first time will enquire about all of them to establish your status , so they not only use a wai to judge this.

My recommendation. Try it , you will notice through the reaction of others if it's ok and your region is still using it.

If you're in the heart of pattaya or bangkok, don't bother about it, they don't expect it of you.

The wai with your hands full is actually the most difficult of them :-)

  13. here's another one:

    NICKNAMES

If Laura, Suzanne, Debra and Rose go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Suzanne, Debra and Rose.

If Mike, Charlie, Bob and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla, Peanut-Head and Scrappy.

    EATING OUT

When the bill arrives, Mike, Charlie, Bob and John will each throw in $20, even though it's only for $32.50. None of them will have anything smaller, and none will actually admit they want change back.

When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

    MONEY

A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he wants.

A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't want.

    BATHROOMS

A man has six items in his bathroom: a toothbrush, shaving cream, razor,a bar of soap, and a towel from the Holiday Inn.

The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify most of these items.

    ARGUMENTS

A woman has the last word in any argument.

Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

    CATS

    Women love cats.

Men say they love cats, but when women aren't looking, men kick cats.

    FUTURE

A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.

A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

    SUCCESS

A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.

A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

    MARRIAGE

A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.

A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change and she does.

    DRESSING UP

A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the garbage, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail.

A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.

    NATURAL

Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.

Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

    OFFSPRING

Ah, children.A woman knows all about her children. She knows about Dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favorite foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams.

A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.

    THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Any married man should forget his mistakes.

A man inserted an 'ad' in the classifieds : "Wife wanted." Next day he received a hundred letters. They all said the same thing: "You can have mine."

A man said his credit card was stolen but he decided not to report it because the thief was spending less than his wife did.

    1. It is important to find a woman that cooks and cleans.

    2. It is important to find a woman that makes good money.

    3. It is important to find a woman that likes to have sex.

    And 4.......

    .

    .

    .

    .

It is most important that these three women never ever meet.

  14. Crystal D'amour ?

    Cristallino ?

L'object d'art thai mais avec un nom Francais pour des idiots Americain ??

    Shiny French thing ?

Just give it a name, don't try to be sophisticated. if it comes from thailand find a thai name not a french one.

If you are talking about the crystal cubes with something engraved in it , just don't name it at all, Sell it cheap...

  15. is you are a computer illiterate stick with windows.

You can by or copie programs everywhere. your kids can play a game on it , your office work is standard for 80 percent of the world. when it is installed XP or 2000 is pretty stable compared to earlyer versions, Drivers are available for every hardware ect...

The Legal licensing cost is high but i think we all know the way around that ??? pantip plaza anyone ??

If you are a computer freak that likes to peal around with numbers, command lines, drivers ect... get linux, its cheap to buy but you spend 5 times more installing stuff on it then on a windows platform.

It's still for computer geeks no matter how they try to easy the use of it.

Yes i'm pro microsoft even if their licensing an marketing tactics riek to high heaven.

Don't forget if microsoft hadden't pushed the ease of use through their windows platforms.

We would still be typing around in long command line structures and coupling batch files to each other ...like Linux i presume.

If linux was so easy to use why are they running so hard to make Windows look alike gui's ???

Simple , Basic computer users know how windows works... it's the defacto standard...
