If you have told Barclays that you no longer live in the UK, or that you no longer have a UK address, that is where your problem started.

if you have family or a trusted friend that will allow you to use their address, you may be able to open a new account with another bank. Although it depends on  what proof of address documents they ask for.

Another alternative might be (if you do have a UK address that you can use), is to just go into your local bank branch and change your current registered address to that one. Take ID and they might not ask for proof of address that way.

    Just a suggestion.

Haven't been to UK in 20 years don't expect to ever again..who would eh..tks for the reply H

It is not a traditional bank offering loans and such but they do offer accounts in various currencies that they hold in actual banks.  So you can pay a pension or make deposits to such an account and use when you want to fund transfers.  But this is without the government bank guarantees you normally have with an actual bank.

I already have wise account sterling and euro I have 1 small pension paid. Each month

@Harveyboy Which is this bank that is telling you that all 'foreign accounts' are to be closed and how do they define what a 'foreign account' actually is?

@MJCMabove is correct by the way. SWIFT is a money transaction method, not a bank.

Nothing wrong with Wise BTW. I've been using them for many years without a hitch.

I've been told that Wise is also not classed as a bank .is that correct

I had a mail from Barclays UK told me account closed from September this year ..I'd planned to have pension paid in there ..I called them and spoke to someone for 20 minuits who went into detail telling me that Brexit was the problem and managing accounts abroad was no longer possible.. apparently all banks in the UK will be following this so if you got an account in UK start looking some where else..this isn't hearsay I can verify this Barclays from September closing accounts anywhere outside UK. No, some comments were helpful. Others were either a wind up, or Thailand ‘white knights’. You know the type, never been in a beer bar, never rode a motorcycle without a helmet, only eats Thai food…

I hadn’t realized this forum was full of such fine upstanding citizens who’ve never once broken the law.

I’m guessing nobody here has ever had a heavy night and then drove their car the following morning, quite likely being over the drink drive limit.

Nobody here has ever barfined a working girl for the purposes of prostitution.

Never jaywalked, taken stationery home from the office without thinking. I must admit, I did get some laughs reading this thread.

Keep telling yourselves you’re perfect. Maybe somebody will believe you.

    ????????????

Not perfect by any means and definitely no angel ..a lot of comments on here were from people who genuinely wanted to help you ..no one wants anyone to have problems with bib here..just sayin

No ! There is no incentive whatsoever to spend money for most to change the filter.

I would NEVER use one when you can buy bottled water so cheaply.

    Makro 6ltr 29 bht !

Local supplier do a 20ltr bottle for around 20 bht.

Yes. Bottle water from makro for drinking and 20 litre bottles from local shop for cooking ..job done

Why? What a twisted nasty  arrogant thing to say. A tourist gets attacked by a young Thai who ran away (this act in itself is an indication of his guilt otherwise he would have stayed and filed a police report/compensation).

Can't believe this happens in such a nice family resort ...not a day goes by without somthing on here  about Pattaya ..shooting .. knifing ..fights.               Lovely place Not ..glad I got out of the Dump

And now we have all these clowns, ostensibly adults from "advanced" Western countries, posting how it's normal for Pattaya, nothing wrong with it anyway, wondering why it was filmed and uploaded to social media, mock horror, whataboutism, phony misunderstanding, and the usual silly puerile jokes, hee hee. Sadder!

My MATE wants to know what social media site it's on..

Arrested, how civilized. About 20 years ago an Englishman told me he was having his bar renovated on Koh Samui, the workers complained that two days in a row some of their tools had been stolen overnight, so he waited that night to see if the thief would return. Sure enough he caught a Thai teenager red handed and his wife called the police. When he handed him over to the two cops they asked the falang what he wanted done with him, surprised he said you're the police, arrest him. They just shook their heads and said the teen wasn't worth the trouble so they took him outside and broke both his arms......as a warning they said nonchalantly and then drove off leaving him groaning in pain.

Be a lot less crime with the young yobs eh
