and... what's your point?
My point is keeping money in a bank in Thailand or the UK the interest rate return is about the same,so I keep it here to enable me to obtain my annual extension without any worries.
People who keep their money in banks here are no worse off than keeping it in a bank in their country of origin.

I do not understand how people think that it is a bad deal. All that is needed to relocate and retire in Thailand is 800 000 baht in a Thai bank account.
Thai people have to me much tougher requirements even to get a visa for a short holliday.
Why are people so arrogant that they think they are entitled to get something for nothing ?

I keep 800,000 baht in a Thai bank for my retirement extension and the interest rate is as good as the rate if I kept it in a UK bank.

Not that I would be advising the IO to do such a thing if online reporting is available.
Due to my Fathers poor health I left Thailand many times during the last year and never made a single 90 day report. The reporrts are for if you stay 90 days not less and leave the country.
I never received a fine or warning when renewing this year.
Why would there be a fine for using the multi re entry permit that I have?

In my village the person delivering the PEA bill can be paid in cash and the same with the person reading the water meter.

Absolutely absurd. Another fine example of lunatics running the asylum.
Let's see. Have a house. Have a wife (Thai). Have a kid (Thai). Sure why not just tie the money up in a bank which will profit from my money rather than spending it on my family. I'm not retired here, I work here but this is complete <deleted>.????
Exactly you work here. I do not , I am retired. I planned my retirement and have enough money to spend on a new car ,holiday abroad and on our family. What is your point? I am retired and you still working? 5555

But personally, I think your 'sample' is a little skewed or you hang out with the more unsavory brand of expats.
No I do not hang out with them,I just talked with them when I was there. I am honest and do not bulshit, just tell it as it is.
Many of them have enough money they just choose to pay an agent to get their extention and even their 90 day reports!

Notice I say evidence as opposed to "I heard this guy in a bar say that his fiends's friend had abused the system". It doesn't make sense at all and you know it. It's just a big cheese trying to make a bigger name for himself while all the real problems in this country go unsolved. Farang are a very easy target.
When I lived in Pattaya I only knew one expat who had a legit extention of stay all the others used an agent and had no money in a Thai account.

I agree even at the UK poor exchange rate it is a small amount if you are a genuine retiree that can afford to live abroad.
The interest rates are better than the UK in fact much better at the moment.
The rules are virtually unchanged in fact you need the money in the bank so you could move most of it out if you wanted for 7 months, instead of 9 if you can prove it came from abroad when topped up.
This should stop a lot of the fraud with retirees, which perhaps they should prosecute for using false declarations?

I explain it to you as easy as possible:
Thailand: People are poor. Many people want to go to rich countries to work illegally.
Western countries: People are rich. They usually don't go to poor countries to work illegally.
So western people can stay in Thailand more easily than Thai people in western countries.
In my eyes we are all equal no matter where we are from . Therefore just because I am a farang I do not expect an easy ride.

How much is the equivelent of 800.000 baht in your own countries currency ? Could people from another country come and live in your country for that amount deposited in a bank account ?
Not in the UK where I am from. What is is it with people who think there own country should be tough on immigration but when they are in Thailand they play the poor victim?

this topic is not about cars, so its very off topic and subject to mods intervention , however next time i jump in my old S class. i will make note of asking my driver of that which you are discussing, i will also ask the wife and daughter if what you say is true in their new cars too
She has a wildtrak pick up and the daughter has a swift, so you might get one out of the three..
They all have round wheels though, that i do know
Standard wheels for a car in Thailand for Thai people are indeed round, however for farang they give you a car with square wheels.
When I complained they told me I had to pay extra for round wheels. I was pissed off a bit but agreed to pay the 2 tier pricing system.I am so glad as them square wheels were a bit clunky and <deleted> up my back!

Exactly ! I moved here at 49 and at 50 got my non o and then retirement extention. I do not get access to my local government pension until I am 55 but have more than enough in savings. My state pension is not until I am 67 so it is a good while away.
Planning is everything!

You may be lucky enough to be able tie up 800,000 Baht for five months every year without needing to spend of it, in which case bully for you.
There might be others who have committed themselves to Thailand by buying themselves a condo to enjoy their retirement in, so don’t have a spare 800,000 Baht they can leave untouched in the bank.
There might be those who’ve retired here under the previous conditions and didn’t expect the goalposts to be moved.
One wonders if those who can demonstrate they have the current required monthly income might be the next to have the goalposts moved.
For the life of me I really don’t understand the reasoning for needing to leave 800,000 Baht in the bank for five months of the year when it’s supposed to be evidence that you have sufficient to live on.For me the money in the bank for my extention of stay came first and then having a house built and buying a car came second.
Not a bully for you aproach but a common sence aproach.

I do not have a Benz or a Toyota pick up. My car has AC and a heater. Maybe you should look into new cars in Thailand and you will realise they also have round wheels! 55

800.000 baht is not very much if you genuinely have retired and have committed to living in Thailand.
Maybe the people getting worried do not really have enough to retire here? I know many people worry about the exchange rates,if that is the case again maybe they are not financially ready for retirement here?
I am far from being well off but I have put enough money in a Thai account to ensure a worry free retirement.
Interest rates here are no worse than my home country. I am not wealthy enough to speculate and possibly lose on the investment of stocks and shares . Therefore I see no reason not to have savings here.

I put my re entry permit number in the section where they ask for visa number. Purpose of visit I put retirement and length of stay I put 90 days.
Right or wrong this is what I have been writting and have never been questioned about it.

Before when I was on a tourist visa I was quoted 35000฿ from an agent to get me a non o and retirement extension.
I declined and done it myself at Immigration.
When I lived in Pattaya all the expats except one used an agent and did not have money in the bank.

No it is very cheap , 1900 baht per year. And the money in the account is a good back up for unexpected medical problems and reasurrance that I do not have to worry about my future.
