Savannakhet would be the easiest if you could get an income letter from the UK embassy for any amount or source to go along with the 800k baht in the bank. You can get the income letter by mail. See: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-obtain-a-pensionincome-letter-for-thai-immigration
Otherwise you could get a police certificate to satisfy Vientiane. Info here for getting one. http://www.pcscenter.sb.police.go.th/eng/ You can get one by using an agent as well (click the button that says "By Out Source" on the left side of the page). Or you could get one while in the UK see http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx . Then get a medical certificate from any clinic here.

The process is to convert your TV to a Non Imm O at Immigration which they will only do as a prelude to applying for the extension.
It sounds as though you've twice started this process at Udon, then not proceeded with the extension.
Naturally they feel you've wasted their time and tried to circumvent the system, so you've burnt your bridges there.
One option is to do the conversion at Bangkok, but you'll need a Bangkok address while it's processed.
Once you have the extension you can return to Udon but will have to file a formal change of address in order to make your 90 day reports there.
If I were to apply to change my tourist visa in Pattaya. How long does the contract for accommodation need to be. Previously I asked at Jomtien and they told me 1 month contract would not suffice.
The Police clearance in Bangkok may also be an option. Can I just walk in and apply?

If you are getting a state pension you get a single or multiple entry non-o visa from the embassy in London. If not perhaps you could apply for a OA long stay visa, The OA visa allow unlimited one year entries for a year from the date of issue. You would need a police clearance and a medical certificate plus financial proof.
To apply for a single entry non-o in Vientiane you will need a police clearance and a medical certificate that you can get here. It takes as much as the 30 days to get the police clearance in Bangkok.
You could get the non-o visa in Savannakhet. If using the money in the bank option you will need proof you are retired which can be a income letter from the UK embassy. If you can prove a income of at least 65k baht you would only need a bank book showing a small amount of funds in the bank along with income letter.
I have 1.2 million baht in a Thai account and am 50 years old. I previously converted my Tourist visa to a Non O in Udon but that option in Udon is not really viable anymore. I will soon return on a Tourist visa which I received today from London.
I just need to find out the best and easiest way to get a Non immigrant O . Previously all I needed was 800000 baht in a Thai account and a letter from the Bank.

I have successfully applied for and received 2 non O visas for retirement purposes in Udon. However due to indecision and personal problems I have left Thailand with the view to going back to work in the UK before making the 12 month extension.
I know I have been foolish not only once but twice and now need to know how to obtain a further Non O for retirement purposes. I can not return to Udon Immigration as they were not best pleased last time.
My thoughts are going to Laos Vientiane but am confused about the requirements. Where do I get a Thai Police clearance certificate?

I just did a search and guess its this video. Anyone know what words he got his Mum to say
The personal pro nouns Ai and Ee that he gets his Mum to say are only used between close intimates and outside of that are insulting
Calling the waitress Edok is the equivalent of calling her a cnt in English.
Aisat Eehia Edok are words that when spoken by non intimates are very offensive more so when spoken by a farang.

Go to the Thai Immigration website and you can download the form required and you will get confirmation of what Ubonjoe and others have said.
The fee is 2000 baht and for me when I did the conversion in Udon was a relatively smooth and easy process . If you meet all the requirements I would strongly advise you not to use an agent but to do it yourself.
The reason will be retirement and they actually wrote this by hand in my passport in Thai on the change of visa stamp and the newly issued non o.
Good luck.

If you send your application by special delivery which I did less than 2 weeks ago it will be returned to you within a week. The last 2 times that I have done this I sent my application in on a Monday and I had my passport and visa returned to me on the Saturday.
Very good service imo.

Udon Immigration require 2 copies of everything and 2 photos.

I went to Udon Immigration today and submitted my application to change my tourist visa to a non o for retirement purposes.
I was advised to apply in Udon by Immigration in both Bangkok and Pattaya as Udon is where I live most of the time.
It all went smoothly and I have a date to return in a couple of weeks time to have the visa change stamped in my passport.
So just to confirm it can be done in Udon.

I found these 2 numbers. 042 24 6804 or 042 93 1687
Also these on immigration website. 0 4224 9982 - 3
Email: [email protected]
I have tried all of these and each time get a fax machine type noise. before I had no problem calling them but am in disparate as I am in Pattaya and need to know for sure if I can convert my tourist visa to a non o in udon or not. if not I will have to stay in Pattaya and get a rental contract for 1 month to be able to convert the visa.

I think the two offices (or officers) assumed they could do them.
If Udon could accept them they would be sent to immigration division 4 in Korat for a approval.
People have asked at Udon about doing the change but were told to go to Vientiane for a non-o visa or Bangkok to do the change.
Perhaps you should contact Udon directly and ask them.
We have emailed udon with the email address that you gave me in another post and will phone them with the number you listed. thanks for

I need to convert my tourist visa to a non o for retirement purposes. I was told in person by bangkok immigration and also Jomtien that as my girlfriends house is in udon and mostly we live there that we should apply for the change in udon.
I know people have said here that udon do not do the conversion but if that is so why did 2 immigration offices say to do from there ?
Maybe udon accept the application and forward to bangkok the same as Jomtien.

I have been trying to phone immigration in udon but the phone number does not seem to work anymore .does anyone know a number that does connect ?

Perhaps you talked to the wrong person that told you that. Perhaps ask again and ask to speak to a supervisor if you get the same answer.
It has been immigration policy for many years that if your local office cannot do the change Bangkok is where you have to do it.
I think it would be easier and cheaper to rent a condo in Pattaya and change the visa there.

I have just got back from Immigration at Chaengwattana as I went there to hear from the horses mouth what I needed for a change of visa status tourist to Non Immigrant for retirement purposes.
I live with my girlfriend in Udon and have been led to believe I could not change the visa there. I went to Chaengwattana and they told me I could only do the change if I lived in Bangkok and had rental proof. I told them I lived in Udon and they said then you must do it there.

I will arrive in Bangkok next week on a tourist visa. I will put the Bangkok hotel address on my landing card. 2 days later I will go to Pattaya where I will stay for 3 weeks. I will also in this time be appyling to change my visa status to non immigrant for retirement purposes. The address I will be putting on the form for this will be my permanent residence in Udon.
I am confused as to whether I need to report this all to Immigration.

Immigration never wants to see the original house book. A copy of the printout will be accepted.
The only reason immigration in Bangkok would want to see proof of address is to confirm you are living where there is no office that can do the change.
You can get the letter from the bank and copies of your updated bank book on the ground floor of Chaeng Wattana immigration. Most banks have branches there.
You go to this office. http://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/location1.html
So will I need to have proof of address in Udon ?

I suggest she go to a Amphoe and ask for a print out of her house book registry. She should be able to get one by showing her ID card. Immigration will accept that in lieu of a copy of the house book.
Another option you have is to apply for the change of visa status in Bangkok by showing your address in Udon. Do not make any mention of staying in Pattaya. They are lot friendlier about issuing the visa than Jomtien.
At this time I cannot recommend going to Vientiane for the non-o visa for being 50 or over. There have been a couple of recent reports of them insisting that a medical certificate and a police clearance certificate.
I think I will apply for the change of visa at Bangkok. I have read on the Immigration website that I will need to fill out a TN86 form for change of status and photo copies of my passport personal information page, last entry stamp, visa sticker and departure card. All copies signed.
It also states a guarantee letter from the bank and copies of all transactions and evidence of foreign transfer of 800000 baht.
Along with this a fee of 2000 baht.
I can not see that they are asking for proof of address other than signing the application form with the Thai address that I will be staying at.
Also which address should I go to. I see there are a few. There is 18th floor Cham Churi Square Building.Phayathai Road,Pathumwan and there is the B Building, floor 2 (south zone) Chaengwattana Road (soi7). Laski.

So if I apply for the change of visa status in Bangkok will I need to have the original house book registry (tabien baan) of my girlfriend or will the print out that you mentioned be ok? As we will be in Pattaya for a month before we return to living in Udon where is the Amphoe that you mention to get a print out of the house book registry?

All that is needed is a copy of the house book registry. That would be page 1 and the page she is registered on of the house book. It would be good to have copies of the condo owners house book and ID card also in case thew want it.
Udon immigration cannot do the change to a non immigrant visa.
Unfortunately we will not be able to get the girlfriends house book registry copies as it is locked away in the house in Udon. I will have to go with the original plan of going to Laos,Vientienne for the non immigrant visa.
Could you please confirm what I would need to take with me to obtain a non Immigrant visa from Laos.
Thanks.

No problem to get the single entry tourist visa. They would of even issued another METV if you wanted one.
You can apply for the change of visa status to get the non immigrant visa at any time during the 60 day entry from the tourist visa up to the last 15 days of it or the 30 day extension of it on or after your birthday.
Hours was a typo. It should of been hosue book registry.
I now have my SETV and would like to convert this to a non immigrant at Jomtien if possible. I will have the money in the bank and my girlfriend will go with me and provide a copy of her rental agreement and write a statement stating I am living with her.
You mention the house book registry, do you mean my girlfriends tabien baan or the condo owners ?. I spoke with her and she says it is in Udon as it has to stay at the house.
We return to Udon in April and am not sure if I can convert the tourist visa to a non immigrant at Udon ? I would prefer to do it in Pattaya as soon as possible but am unsure if I would have correct documents without the tabien baan.

Udon Immigration did not use the form I printed and instead used their own and filled it out for me,all I had to do was sign and pay 500 baht fee and show girlfriends Tabien baan.
