I’m impressed by your perseverance. I didn’t care about the money, I was more enraged by his deceit. If he had called me and said it might take a year or two, I would have been fine - but when he cut communication I realised he was duping me from the beginning.

I have done something similar, with an ex work colleague, who borrowed money that he promised to pay back in 6 weeks, then 3 months, then never heard from him, and he wouldn’t respond to my emails. When I finally reached him (long story) he accused me of harassing him! I’m an obstinate character, so long story, I got my money back. I was very aware that it is unwise to lend money, but I went ahead anyway. I learned a valuable lesson.

Two old guys swapping punches outside a cafe in Dumaguette over an issue that didn't involve them. A youngish American guy started a Dive Centre and needed funds for its expansion. Apparently another American retiree (ex Cop) didn't want to invest and (in the opinion of the young guy) tried to put off others from investing. So the young guy was hacked off with him, and bad mouthed him, and his Filipina fiancé. So the young guy's business partner (an old American guy) and the ex Cop's American future brother in law, had a shouting match that turned into handbags at dawn. Reminds me of an episode of that American comedy classic "Soap". Moral of the story ... avoid Dumaguette and American ex pats.

You don’t deny that he called fallen soldiers losers and suckers? What an insult to anyone who is currently serving or has ever served. And let’s just address the “two wars” fallacy. The war in Ukraine was started by Russia in 2014, with the illegal invasion of Crimea. 2022 was a continuation of that war. A war started by Trump’s boss, Putin. No US forces are involved in that war. The war in Gaza was triggered by the slaughter of innocents in Southern Israel on 7 October 2023. Nothing to do with the US. And there are no US forces in Gaza or Israel. The only involvement of allies, including the US, is the protection of the Red Sea, and an effort to avoid escalation. Biden didn’t start any of them. If being President when bad things happens means you are to blame then Trump is to blame for Covid and shutdowns? Even I wouldn’t go that far.

Hur is a conservative appointment, who knew exactly what he was doing. He couldn’t charge Biden so he undermined him publicly. For what it’s worth, I don’t think anyone should be President at 80, but I’d rather have an embalmed Joe Biden in his casket as President than Donald J Trump … who is a danger to the world and the most corrupt of them all. That such a large % of the US public can’t see that is beyond my understanding.

Ghandi wasn't saying that India was "great" ... you seem to have missed the point? -
To the guy that wants to ally with Putin, get educated. Putin wants to destroy the West, not ally with it. He could never achieve that by military means so he put resources into undermining democracies from within. And Trump is his greatest success. A corrupt idiot who will do anything for money and is compromised up to his neck. The KGB financed extremist groups, left and right, to cause chaos in democracies, and used oligarchs to corrupt politicians and political parties around the West. We are all paying the price for that now. Mike Johnson, like Trump, takes Russian money. It is not about “the deficit”, that increased under Trump, it is about helping Russia … and in doing so destroying American democracy. Money spent in Ukraine defeating Putin is well spent, and may prevent the next trouble maker from starting … China’s Xi.

Anti-Israel or anti-semitic - Mr Azhar Ali

I was also puzzled at how Israel could have let this happen? They have one of the most advanced intelligence networks in the world, but failed to know anything about the attack plans. They had also lightened their troop presence. It really beggars belief. On the other hand this event has done nothing for Netanyahu, who is stretching this out because he is going to lose power once it is over. Then he will be in legal trouble without the power of being PM. -
Unfortunately it is his supporters who are deranged. Think about that the next time you see a Muppet holding a “We are Q” sign.

People with dementia don’t know who or where they are, terrifying enough, and they still get hungry and feel pain. I guess you were joking? I can’t think of a worse end to your life, but for some this will be it. I’m hoping for a “Mexican suicide” - falling asleep in your chair like the stereotype Mexican in a western, and not waking up. -
As a technical expert in these matters I’d suggest the following: ”Righty tighty, Lefty loosey” i have tried other approaches, but this one worked for me.

Air Pollution Crisis Escalates with Hotspots Surge

I think Thailand is a great place, but this is the one aspect that puts me off staying here full time. I am not entirely sure what the impact is on a persons life, but my guess is that you shorten your lifespan living here. It’s like taking up smoking in your twilight years … not recommended.- 73 replies
