  1. Lockdowns and restrictions don’t work. They just prolong the pandemic. Open up, let the cases rise into their hundreds of thousands and let people get on with life.
  2. Finally some common sense. Next up - scrap all lockdowns, masks, vaccine passports, quarantine and testing.
  3. Update: I bought 12 months covid insurance for 7,500 baht. As I’ll need it for future re-entries, assuming test and go is reintroduced, it’ll be useful then and cut the costs and make it easier.
  4. Phuket Sandbox requires insurance for everyone with a value of at least $50k How long should the policy be for ex-pats returning to Thailand who are resident here? It's pretty clear for tourists - the length of their holiday. But no guidance on policy length for those returning to Thailand long-term.
  5. There is no longer any mention on the Thailand Pass website of the requirement for entrants to the Phuket Sandbox to have spent 21 days in the departure country. Is that rule still active? My plan is to return to the UK early January for a couple of weeks and re-enter via Phuket. The Test & Go scheme made clear that the 21 day rule would not apply to people staying long-term (Eg B visa) would not apply to them. Was that also the case then with the Phuket sandbox?
  6. Yet another knee-jerk reaction from the government to show the hysterical Thai public they’re doing something.
  7. This is probably the most likely outcome. Increase restrictions so the government is seen to be doing something, but not too much.
  8. If you believe masks stop you from catching Covid, I have magic beans to sell you.
  9. Keep dreaming. High value tourists have other destinations in mind. You know, places where they fix the pavements, taxi drivers don’t scam them, police follow the rule of law, bars don’t rip them off, and they’re generally appreciated.
  10. Thanks for the advice. 10 days is pretty quick. Was it a PCR test? Did you have mild symptoms? Most travel requires PCR tests which are more sensitive that ATK antigen. Seems like they can still pick up the virus even when ATK tests are negative.
  11. Anybody have experience of how long it takes to get a negative PCR test after being infected with the delta variant and fully vaccinated?
  12. The UK accepts an ATK test or PCR test to travel there. (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england#when-to-take-your-test) There's no guidance on how to show the negative proof. Is a certificate from a clinic in Bangkok acceptable? Where is this shown? Is it shown to the check-in desk at Suvarnabhumi before departure? Are there clinics in Bangkok that do ATK tests with proof of negative and not PCR?
  13. Has a Thai girlfriend and two kids but left two years ago and hadn't returned since. Sounds like he should have had his visa situation in order first or made the effort before now to return before now.
  14. Unusual to see free-thinking Thais.
  15. Thais find different jobs or often go back to their home towns and help families.
  16. Bars and clubs have spent years making fortunes by paying bribes and operating illegally. No sympathy for them - and especially not the western owners that spent years believing they were invincible and have suddenly been brought back down to earth.
  17. 1) There's no such thing in Thailand as a 'set price', especially not for taxis 2) Motorcycle rental was double that 3) Yes, that's what they asked for five minute journey As I said, Thais see tourists returning and dollar signs light up in their eyes. Taxis in Bangkok are up to the same tricks again.
  18. I went to Koh Larn a few weeks ago. The blue pickup truck wanted 600 baht to take two people to the next beach. Motorcycle taxi was asking the same amount. They have learned nothing from the pandemic. And those who were ripping people off before, will do the same again.
  19. I'm travelling from Thailand to the UK for a week. After arriving in the UK, there won't be the minimum seven days to apply for the Thailand Pass (It says to apply at least seven days before travel). Is it possible to apply for the Thailand Pass before departing from Bangkok so that it's approved and ready for the return?
  20. If you click on the table showing the options for departures it has PCR tests listed.
