I only know that taking artificial MSG gives me headaches

I suggest you look up the word "psychosomatic".  But in short, it's all in your head.

There must be millions of posts on the internet of people claiming MSG sensitivity.....Yet some people will never believe it......I can say first hand the man made MSG is Waaaaay stronger than any natural MSG....

That's ludicrous.  Why would MSG from artificial sources be any different from "natural MSG" when both are chemically identical?

And as for "millions of posts on the internet of people claiming MSG sensitivity", that may be the case, but there is absolutely zero scientific evidence for MSG sensitivity.

All instant noodles have low nutritional values and full of MSG.

You write that as if MSG were something bad.  It's a perfectly natural ingredient.  Loads of it in parmesan cheese and tomatoes, as well as loads of other tasty foodstuffs.

  4. I subscribe to Private Eye.  (It's not available as a PDF).  It usually arrives about 10-14 days after publication.  The negative is that about a year ago the price was hiked dramatically thanks to Royal Mail.  UK subscription (1 year) is £40.00; Thailand subscription is now more than double that - £90.00.

  5. First some terminology.  Slightly simplifying:

    - Banks offer bank accounts

    - Asset management companies offer funds

    - Brokerage companies offer stocks (including ETFs) and funds

In Thailand most bank parent companies also own asset management companies and brokerage companies, but there are also independent management companies and brokerage companies, so one's not tied to a bank.  (So, for example, there's Krung Sri bank, Krung Sri Asset Management, and Krung Sri Securities - they are all separate companies.)  AFAIK, you can not open brokerage accounts at bank branches - the offices are always separate.

Anyway, mutual funds are probably the right way to go.  If you're satisfied with the range of funds from SCBAM, then opening an account via your local bank branch is the easiest way forward.

If you want a broader range of funds, you will probably find it easiest to open an account with an independent broker such as Phillips POEMS, Maybank Kim Eng, or KGI (to name but a few).

You should definitely check out the tax advantages of Super Savings Fund (SSFs).  You won't be able to benefit for the first couple of years of university because of the minimum holding period, but potentially you could for the third.

I'm assuming you're not American, and that the funds are already in Thailand.

  6. At the moment I'm using minidlna to stream from my computer to my Mi TV box (Android-based).  It works very well for video files with embedded subtitles.  However, when there's a separate subtitles file (.srt), that's not streamed, so I have to copy the video and subtitles files to a thumbdrive, which is inconvenient - particularly because the Mi TV's USB port is at the back.

Is there a way to stream both video and subtitles files from my desktop?

    Thanks.

  7. CP addressed this back in 2015:

"From my over 20 years of experience in poultry industry, I can confirm that Thailand’s poultry industry, including CPF’s chicken farms, is free of hormone and growth-enhancing additives. It is therefore impossible to have such chemical residue in chicken meat that causes precocious puberty as many people fear."

"It is therefore completely impossible for the poultry industry to use such hormones because it is illegal in Thailand and European Union which is Thailand’s major trading partner."

Against what? Nobody wants to invade Thailand.

Let me see.  China invaded Tibet.  China wants to invade Taiwan.  China has effectively colonised Burma and Laos.  Many of the richest/most powerful families in Thailand are Chinese and support Chinese interests over Thai.  Pretty sure that China wants to invade Thailand, even if Thailand isn't number one on the list.

The big question, however, is whether Thailand would choose to defend itself against a Chinese invasion.  And I'd be surprised if Chinese armaments didn't include a "kill switch" to prevent their being used against China.

Perhaps the temple needed time to prepare your dog for cremation.  Did they surround him with flowers like they did my cat, prior to wrapping him in the cloth for cremation?

There wasn't any preparation, but perhaps crematoria need time to warm up? I don't know.

For the ceremony there were plastic flowers on the table, with my dog lying on a white sheet.  Also the usual vial of water to be tipped into a small bowl.  For the actual cremation the flowers and vial had gone, and they'd tied the corners of the sheet together.

Buddhist don't normally do much more than bury their pets without much fuss.

Thank you for your comments.  I suspect may be a regional thing.  There are now many temples in Bangkok performing animal cremations.  (Historically, I believe there was only one in Klong Toei Nuea.)  The first two I 'phoned were very busy and the first available "slot" for cremation was several days away.  Certainly the neighbours (all Thai) have had their dogs cremated (with one exception that I know of).
