  1. Thank you Harry we try, I didn't think though that the discussion was limited to any particular type of bar and I am certaily not the only publican in CM that thinks that bars have a positive community benefit.

I also believe that alcohol (when consumed moderately) has a number of extremely positive benefits both on physical and mental health and on social interaction. Human being have been drinking socially for possibly as long as 12,000 years and while it has always been abused by a minority of drinkers, it has proved to be beneficial to the majority of society.

  2. Thanks Orang37 I did enjoy! :D

No question in my mind more plants/trees mean better air. We have planted loads in the garden this year and I am convinced there is a higher oxygen content in the garden than 100 yards down the road. I am rather pleased that I have all three of the ones Kamal mentioned although all outdoors.

    Plant more greenery people :o

  3. I'm someone who appreciates what a bar can do to a family. I have lived here a long time and my opinon is based on the facts of the matter.
Yes, and what a laudable living it is, right? sad.gif

What a curmudgeonly fellow you are Ajarn. :o

That you associate bars with sleaze, excess and being detrimental to family life is perhaps a reflection of the bars you visit or have visited.

I prefer to think of a bar as a place where the community can gather and meet in an informal and relaxed setting. Places where families and others go to celebrate special occasions and enjoy the fine art of living. After over 20 years in the bar business I can think of dozens of couples that first met in one or other of the bars I have run and have gone on to marry and start families. What is not laudable about that?

  4. Hi Samui Folk

I am down on the island from Chiang Mai for a week for my cousins wedding. He is looking for somewhere to stay for a few days honeymoon with his new wife and their young daughter. They want somewhere nice and quiet, up in the mountains where they can hide themselves away. Looking for somewhere with a good restaurant, pool and seaview.

They are flexible on price and it need not be cheap but somewhere offering value for money would be appreciated.

Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

    Thanks.

  5. I am starting to consider spending a month or two elsewhere, during this time.

Partly because it's said that a change is as good as a holiday, and partly because of the air problem.

So, where might be good, both as a change and a place with better air?

Finland would almost certainly qualify in both respects

  6. They make a very fine mojito at the Chedi. OK I know it's not exactly priced for the average persons daily sundowner but they are good.

Best time to try them is to splash out for the Jazz Sunday Brunch - freeflow mojitos 11.30-3pm as well as a truly excellent buffet which includes ordering tasting type portions off their standard menu. It is relatively expensive at 1,000 baht a head but as treat every couple of months it is an awesome way to spend a Sunday lunch.

    Enjoy :o
