  1. Thank you all so much.

Thanks to George and TV for organising it and paying for the beer, to the other sponsors for contributing food and beer and to all those that came and had a good time. It was a great, great night :D

At the height there were 220 people which is the largest crowd ever at Tuskers and altogether over 250 people attended at some stage in the evening. A monster party :):D:D

Finally, the staff would like me to thank everyone for the generous tips, they are very appreciative. I thought they were excellent and deserved all the reward they go. :D

    Thanks again

    Chas

  2. There was a leather shop on Sri Donchai Road about half way up. I don't know if it is still ther ebut he made all his stuff on the premised and once fixed a bag for me. Very nice fellow as I recall.

    3. Chedi for an English afternoon tea

    4. Galae Restaurant for a Thai dinner

    5. Woodys for a midnight Aussie burger

    Take the next day off

  4. Well, here is my truth. I made two ATM withdrawal transactions in the past week using a K Bank machine and was not charged anything. My wife tells me they have the best service she has encountered as well. So.... I am thinking of moving my assets to them if they keep up the free overseas withdrawal service. Free Enterprise..... use it!

    Spot on!

A mass move to K Bank by thousands of expats will set people thinking.

  5. Sawasdee Khrup, Khun Rasseru,

That is a most tasty question which reminds me of larks' tongues in aspic, and other gourmet viands, my farang once dined upon in his imagination.

A close shave with Ockham's Razor of that question might yield some facial hairs whose dna would indicate that the gustatory can be a signifier for the delights and appetites of the other orifices ?

But, dost think we need more of a Vajra lightning-bolt here than a Jovian jolt ? : is it as simple as saying what appears as "contentious" is evoked by those things in us which are eating us ?

Or is it just random "smoke," static on the line, from the fires of farang frustration as we, daily, realize the paradise lost is one that never was, and that the angel with the flaming sword who banished us is ... us ?

    best, ~o:37;

I'd trash that too but I'm not clever enough to understand it :)

  6. My sincerest apologies for interrupting the banter flow. :D

Did you notice a big fat guy with a big nose stuffing himself inside?

Sorry UG you must have been there at a different time to us. We actually spoke to everyone in the inside part of the restaurant and there was quite some merry banter between diners of the face to face, as opposed to the internet, kind. Everyone was looking at each others dishes and comparing notes. Best of all one extremely nice French chap, a former Thai boxing champion no less :) gave me half of his giant portion of Beef Carpaccio because he couldn't finish it. :D

The portions were enormous which is always good in my book.

  7. Following these threads Me and Mrs MB went to Chez Marco for the first time last night and were very impressed.

We met a number of interesting fellow diners and had an excellent meal. Can't believe we missed it before but will certainly be returning in the neat future.

Back to the inane banter please

  8. Please briefly describe what goes on at a quiz night. How is it structured?

All the quiz nights in town are slightly different but generally speaking they are team events organised into several rounds. Pubs vary in how many people they allow in a team. I generally don't limit team numbers whereas Steve at the Garden Bar strictly limits teams to 4 people. Tuskers' quiz nights generally follow the same format as outlined here and if you want to have a look at one of our complete quizzes there is one here.

Peace Blondie is absolutely right you need a diverse team of ages, nationalities and interests to be very good but mostly they are just for fun.

  9. You should talk to Khun Daeng at May 37.

He is an excellent architect; a local man who has worked all over the world including the US and UK including hotel projects.

He has lectured in architecture in the USA and speaks fluent, technical English. He is also an extremely nice man.

  10. I spoke with an American chap last month who said he had first visited in the mid 50's. He claimed that outside the city all the young women were topless and that during the logging season you could walk across the Ping on teak logs - I would like to have seen that. Apparently the Gymkhana Club was the centre of the Farang social scene.

Can anyone on here remember those days? I would love to see pics.

  11. Hi Luke

For maximum ease and comfort the VIP bus from the Arcade Bus Station is excellent.

Leaves CM at 8am returns from Mae Sae and 2.30pm or 3.30pm depending on how long you want to stay. Nice big comfy reclineable seats. Price varies according to fuel costs was 600 baht about 3 weeks ago.

Take a jumper tends to get cold especially as the sun goes down on the return leg.
