  1. Just a renewed plug for the Tuskers darts night on Tuesdays.

The evening starts from 8pm but feel free to join anytime. We start with some games of 501 and then later in the evening play killer so everyone can join at once. It's a good, friendly, fun crowd.

Plus you get to pay 'Save Baht with a Dart' One throw per person at the board whatever they get that's their discount for the night. Anything from 1-60%!

    All very welcome.

  2. Lots of good photographers on here I know - Greenside, Ian Forbes and many others.

I wonder if anyone can help me - I am looking for a picture of Doi Suthep at sunset. I want the whole, or at least most of the mountain in and lots of lovely oranges, yellows and purples as the sun goes behind the mountain.

If anyone can help please post the pics here or PM me.

    Thank you

  3. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but sometimes the negativity and people jumping on band wagons to write negative comments really is depressing.

The UN Irish is probably the most popular expats pub in town and it stands to reason they must be doing something right otherwise people would simply go elsewhere; there are afterall many alternatives in town.

As to smiling all the time it is sometimes difficult to wear a smile on your face all day. Lets be honest everyone has bad days and if people are having problems in their lives away from work it can be difficult to be a permanent happy presence behind the bar. I know from recent experience how a personal tragedy can affect staff morale and service. So why not give people a break, have a quiet word with management or just not go back rather than write negative things that affect people’s livelihoods?

I have never encountered bad service or had a poor meal in the UN and people involved with the pub have shown Rachel and me a great deal of kindness and support. They are generous and big hearted and certainly don’t deserve the negative publicity on this thread.

  4. It was the players themselves who chose Tuesdays. Tonight is the first get together so the night may change and if it does I will let ypu know Uptheos.

It is very much see as we go and I will let the participants guide the way the evenings work in the future.

  5. If anyone would like to play darts we are starting a new darts night on Tuesdays at Tuskers. We have just put up a new board and there are a group of regulars keen to play. If you would like to join us everyone is welcome.

  6. We use Dr Nook.

She is located on Chang Klan Road. Go south along Chang Klan across Sri Donchai Road I think she is the second soi along on the right. The soi is directly opposite Kasikorn Bank and there is a big sign for Dr Nook's Animal Hospital. She is at the end on right.

Perfect English spoken and good animal care.

  7. Hi Lanky

Today was our second outing and we had 12 players including women and children. It was great fun. There is a total mix of standards from very good to me huffing and puffing about.

We play on the CMU rugby pitches by the Huay Kaew Road entrance. You really can't miss them. Meet at 4pm Sundays. Everyone is very welcome.

  8. You will be very welcome Donny.

We had our first run out yesterday and it went very well. There was a big range in standards of knowledge and fitness but that didn't matter as everyone had a lot of fun. We will be meeting at 4pm next Sunday on the rugby pitches at CMU (that's by the Huay Kaew entrance).

Anyone wishing to participate is very welcome. :)

  9. We are getting together a group of people to play Touch Rugby on Sunday afternoons.

For those who do not know Touch is a non contact version of rugby that is becoming increasingly popular. There is no tackling involved so it is an ideal mixed sex sport and we already have both men and women signed up to play.

You don't have to be a rugby expert or to have played before, some of the people coming to play know nothing about rugby but Touch is a simple game so if you don't know the rules you will soon pick it up.

We plan to play at 4pm probably at CMU so if you would like to join us drop me a PM so I can confirm details. Everyone is welcome it is just for a bit of fitness and fun.

    A picture's worth a thousand words to have a

  10. All in a good cause!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments which I shall pass on to Off and the girls. They were thrilled that people came and I am glad everyone enjoyed it.

Mrs MB and I took the kratongs she made down to the river near our house last night and released them much to the amusement of the locals.

  11. Great Idea....... but isn't this a day late and a dollar short ?

The idea for the class came solely from my staff who thought there would be some people who would enjoy learning the art of krathong making. They tell me that the actual date for Loy Krathong is Monday and that the krathongs should be released on that evening under the full moon.

I totally defer to their knowledge in these matters.

  12. If you would like to learn how to make a Krathong the Tuskers girls will be holding a free Krathong class on Monday afternoon anytime from 2pm. The will have all the materials to allow you how to make a beautiful, traditional krathong which you can then float on the moat or river or take home. There is no charge and the girls look forward to sharing their craft skills with anyone who wishes to learn.
