  1. "He also urged everyone who is eligible to receive a vaccine to get one as soon as possible in order to help lessen the impact of their health should they become infected with the virus." Yep .... Well, most of us are all sitting inside our homes with our face nappies on, tapping our fingers waiting for a phone call/email to get vaccinated.
  2. Walking Street was an outright ripoff anyway (LK Metro and other hyped up Sois were heading same way) IMO. I don't think there's much sympathy for the types of business owners there who basically couldn't care less about ripping you off before COVID. Unless you were rich, or fiscally reckless, it was too expensive for most punters. So I couldn't care less what happens to the place.
  3. When the infection rates reach a point where the facilities used to isolate all infected patients have exceeded capacity, this is the point of no return. This has already happened. The attempts at effectively suppressing the virus to manageable levels, whilst we all impatiently wait for our vaccinations is now failing. Sending COVID + patients back home to self isolate is obviously not ideal. And it is clear that this will cause more infections. But Governments can only do so much. Even wealthy and efficient countries do not have unlimited resources. Every country has only a finite capacity. It is inevitable that every single one of us will eventually be infected with COVID19. The lucky ones will have been vaccinated and have much less severe symptoms. Data coming in from around the world reveals much less hospitalizations for vaccinated people.
  4. I opted against ticking the health condition section too because of needing a medical certificate to confirm condition. Many of us do not have a certificate, rather only prescription documents at best. And of those medicines listed prescriptions, they are often for treatment of several health conditions, I.e. not disease specific. And there are medicines that are used for 'off label' conditions but still used to treat serious medical conditions. I saw the impending costly and time consuming need to have to attend a hospital, pay for consultations, most probably be requested to seek letters from specialists back in my home country and finally after several thousands of Baht, have a Thai doctor complete a medical certificate to upload onto the website. And by that time the placements would have filled. So better to just register as a non-urgent applicant instead. Sad reality is that therefore there are expats who are high risk of dying from COVID and one of the 7 categories, who are registered in the non-urgent category.
  5. Every human on this planet will eventually be infected with COVID19. That is inevitable. Whether that is from within a household or out. But, overwhelmingly those vaccinated will suffer only mild flu-like symptoms. Unvaccinated will usually moderate to suffer severe flu-like symptoms accompanied by respiratory infections and risk death. The doctor is right about the devastation being caused. As long as we are unvaccinated, then those of us with health conditions are sitting ducks and play the COVID life/death lottery, albeit better odds we are not killed by it.
  6. 104 Million THB at today's spot rate is $3,152,470.00 USD, $4,282,519.00 AUD, £2,273,645 Pound Sterling, €2,686,167 Euros Not a bad accumulation for someone. The salary of the police Chief is obviously not able to accumulate that worth on its own in a normal human career span. I am not sure when he commenced that position, but assume it's not been decades long. Previous to that would have been lower ranked, lower salary. Then there is government income tax applied and cost of living. Both he and his wife seem to have quite expensive materialistic tastes as revealed in this report. But there are the wealthy show ponies who like to advertise how fantastic they are (something to do with vanity and narcissism?) A nice bank deposit for the missus and kids. With so much successful accumulation of wealth, one may ask why they would have such large sums of cash sitting in his wife's named account that is basically half their total worth? Other sources of claimed legitimate wealth perhaps are: inheritance, he's a very savvy and smart investor, owner of other successful businesses and/or companies, winner of significant Lottery prizes, winner of a significant Casino gamble prize abroad, gifts from generous friends and family, donations. I wonder how the audit will go ... We could say the same to many expats here too and how they came into possession of their wealth (Thailand the mecca for money laundering in the past. We can thank the legacy of banks like HSBC for that).
  7. Or the random stops where an offense is made up. I had one of those. That 'tax' cost me 1000 baht.
  8. I am assuming these vaccines have batch numbers and are therefore traceable. The main reason of course if a certain batch has a faulty vaccine that needs recalling and patients re-vaccinated. It is good there has been a call for the audit. It demands accountability. The outcome of this audit will also affect the likelihood of future donations from foreign nations, as they will not supply more if there is any evidence of impropriety. I registered as well for the expat vaccination, but have heard nothing. If expats do not receive any of the proportion of Pfizer allocated to us, then forget more external donations. It would be a very significant lack of trust. The news of this would spread back to the US and worldwide.
  9. Google analytics are often used as one of several tools by investors to determine market sentiment and trends. No doubt there are people with interest in Thailand condo property prices as it is a depressed market. Wealthy Chinese investors wanting a safe haven for their money out of the reach of the CCP is one factor. Money launderers - go for your life. Laundered money here is rife investing in bars, clubs, companies, condos, etc. However, I need convincing that buying property in Thailand is a good investment. From my own regrettable experience in Pattaya as a non-commercial investor, condo prices don't tend to appreciate. Perhaps in certain highly sought areas they may. Japanese and Chinese investors in commercial and residential development projects are way above my humble retiree pay grade! For a large percentage of condos in places like Pattaya, they are overpriced and a depreciating asset. Currency fluctuations, with a Thai Baht that has been very strong, also plays into the equation and even with the weakening Thai Baht, I am not interested at this exchange rate. I managed to buy my condo at a low Thai Baht exchange rate years ago and luckily sell it at a high Thai Baht rate. But I still lost money (albeit 20% less capital loss than if it was the same rate as when I bought it). Poor quality, issues with juristic, lack of owners paying maintenance fees with subsequent insufficient funds for maintenance, a building basically falling apart, led to my decision to pull the plug. Don't believe the hoards of so called 'agents' (every man, woman and soi dog here is a part time property agent at times and will lie through their teeth) who would sell their mothers if they could for the nice commissions in my opinion. I have had bad experiences with them too. And of course the uncertainty of future governance and foreign ownership laws makes me wary too. Renting here and investing elsewhere is very much what many legitimate investors do.
  10. True he is an alleged killer. A sensational tabloid with a headline typed out by a news reporter does not automatically translate to guilt by the judiciary. Moreso down to improper vetting and different ethical standards by news editors. Rinse and repeat around the world. Irresponsible journalism gets much worse elsewhere.
  11. Hello, I have been looking at an old post here (2014) about supersight surgery at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. I am seriously considering the procedure but wanted to know of others who have had it done and if there are other hospitals besides Bangkok Pattaya Hospital that do the procedure. As I have read, the 'Supersight Surgery' label seems to be just a marketing gimmick to make it sound as if it is the best procedure. It would be useful to try to get the proper terminology so I can then enquire with other hospitals/eye centres that also do the same procedure, the surgeons' history, price comparisons, type of lenses (Carl Zeiss appears to be the best versus Johnson & Johnson). I spoke to an expat recently who had his bad eye done a year ago and he is very happy with the result. I understand the downside is night vision is affected due to the halo effect with bright lights, but my eyes are pretty stuffed anyway and sick of glasses. Would be good to read experiences of other expats. I have read a few positive comments online as well.
