Legacy admissions: Harvard accused of favouring mostly white students
Harvard University says it may still consider race in its admissions process despite the Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action in higher education, maintaining in a statement that the decision allows schools to consider an applicant's racial background, among other factors. https://www.businessinsider.com/harvard-says-it-may-still-consider-race-during-the-admissions-process-2023-7

Twitter temporarily restricts tweets users can see, Elon Musk announces
Its 10,000 only if you have been verified and pay I think $8 per month. I agree that seems more than enough. But 1,000 for those who do not pay can have severe limits. Its very easy to scroll through dozens of tweets in a few seconds. You don't have to actually click them to view the full message or video etc, the tweets just being viewed while scrolling counts. There is an update on the BBC here regards some of the reasons he may be doing it. Why is Twitter limiting how many tweets you can see? Elon Musk tweeted that unverified users could read 1,000 tweets, and verified users 10,000 per day. People began to share screengrabs of messages that they'd "exceeded" their daily allowance of tweets. Elon Musk was doing something that seems unfathomable for a social media company - he was limiting user activity. The move has baffled advertising executives. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-66093324

Biden’s unhinged ideas of Supreme Court and our Constitution
Yes I know its correct, its also correct that the Judge Davis ruled that he would instruct the jury that the claims are false. Fox had little choice but to settle. However yes back to Biden and unhinged ideas of the Supreme court

Biden’s unhinged ideas of Supreme Court and our Constitution
For the sake of accuracy Fox also said in their settlement statement: “We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems. We acknowledge the court's rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false."

Monkeypox outbreak: Thailand witnesses spike in cases within the LGBTQ+ community
A year is a long time and its no longer a PHEIC. This from 11 May 2023 In conclusion, having considered the significant decline in the global spread of mpox and the gains achieved in the control of the outbreak in many countries, the Committee advised that the event requires a transition from a PHEIC to a robust, proactive and sustainable mpox response and control program https://www.who.int/news/item/11-05-2023-fifth-meeting-of-the-international-health-regulations-(2005)-(ihr)-emergency-committee-on-the-multi-country-outbreak-of-monkeypox-(mpox)

Conservatives are on a roll in their quest to remake America through the courts
Correct, affirmation action on recruitment can be pure common sense, you'll notice I stated "in its most basic form" It becomes far more complex however when you start to recruit middle and senior management to lead those people and work places or environments. It then depends on each individual situation, the development needs, any ongoing problems, the team dynamics. The considerations are wide and will in may cases rely on affirmative action. But I'll leave it there.

'Next hours will be decisive': 45,000 police deployed as unrest spreads across France
Interesting take from an alleged passenger in the vehicle. The car was automatic and when the second police officer stuck the driver with the butt of the gun, his foot came off the brake, that's why the car went forward, the officer then shot him causing the car to crash.

What the Supreme Court’s LGBTQ rights decision means
Indeed, it would appear that the Supreme Court needs to do some basic fact checking before handing out verdicts. The man was identified as “Stewart” in court filings and as someone who requested graphic designs for invitations and other materials for a same-sex wedding with his fiancé, Mike. CNN contacted Stewart through information in court filings. He asked for his last name, which is not in the filing, not to be used. In an interview with CNN Friday, Stewart said that he “did not submit a request” to the company, 303 Creative, and is a “happily married man to a woman of 15 years.” “I don’t know Mike,” Stewart said. “I’ve never asked anybody to design a website for me, so it’s all very strange. I certainly didn’t contact her, and whatever the information in that request is, is fake.” https://edition.cnn.com/2023/06/30/politics/colorado-web-designer-court-filings/index.html

Twitter temporarily restricts tweets users can see, Elon Musk announces
This is obviously some sort of cost cutting exercise although restricting users from views will also have a huge impact on the already dwindling advertising revenue. Twitter stopped paying for its Google Cloud services some time ago, no wonder its now concerned about the data usage. According to The Information's report, Twitter had ultimately continued to pay its Google Cloud bills because of the huge advertising revenue it gets from the company – but Platformer now reports that "at some point" it changed its mind and stopped paying the invoices, and was now planning to stop using the platform completely. Platformer reported that Twitter was scrambling to move services off Google Cloud before the contract ends on June 30, but cited sources who said that this was taking longer than expected and that it was uncertain what would happen with some of the services. For example, it's unclear whether Twitter would try to migrate Smyte to its own servers, sources told Platformer. https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-twitter-stopped-paying-google-cloud-bills-money-platformer-2023-6

Twitter temporarily restricts tweets users can see, Elon Musk announces
So Musk's frequently touted "world’s digital town square" has now had its meter throttled even if you are a paying blue ticker. I wonder what happens if you make a few replies to some tweets, then run out of viewing status, guess you'll have to wait till the next day to see if you had any responses....lol

Jack Dorsey says Twitter ‘went south’ after company’s sale to Elon Musk
Looks like Elon is falling out with a number of techies not just Jack Dorsey . A cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg in the offering? A ‘Cage Match’ Between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg May Be No Joke The day after Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg on social media to “a cage match” this month, Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, received a text. It was from Mr. Zuckerberg, chief executive of Meta. He asked Mr. White, who heads the world’s premier mixed martial arts competition, which is fought in cage-like rings, if Mr. Musk was serious about a fight. Since then, Mr. White said, he has talked to the tech billionaires separately every night to organize the showdown. On Tuesday, he said, he was “on the phone with those two until 12:45 in the morning.” He added, “They both want to do it.” https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/01/technology/elon-musk-mark-zuckerberg-cage-match.html image from above article

Conservatives are on a roll in their quest to remake America through the courts
As a past Director of Social Services I can assure you it was affirmative action (not a criteria) to meet the needs of the children that were looked after by our agency, be that in foster care, residential care, outreach or residential school. If it was a criteria we wouldn't have that dilemma in the first place, as in the recruitment process we would only advertise by gender or race. Which you are very rarely allowed to do.
-

Wait in your previous reply you said: But yes if the situation was reversed as you described then we would pick the male residential social worker and the white foster carers. (so long as the child agreed if age appropriate)
-
Conservatives are on a roll in their quest to remake America through the courts
Yes they are very sound examples of affirmative action, ones taken daily in the social sector.
-
Conservatives are on a roll in their quest to remake America through the courts
It really depends on the situation. In its most basic form, if there are 3 different foster care couples that need to be interviewed to look after a black child, if the potential carers are all around the same in terms of skills and other factors then we would always pick a black couple first so long as the child agreed if they are of the age to agree. Or if we are looking for a social worker for an all girls children home that is under represented in female residential social workers then of those who fit the same criteria we would go for a female pick. There's lots of examples where affirmative action is required to fit the individual cases.

Is There A Nando's In Pattaya?
I wish! One of my favourite restaurants when I go back to the UK and also on the few occasions I've visited Malaysia. They also do a delicious Pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart)
-
Conservatives are on a roll in their quest to remake America through the courts
May be in your experience but not in mine, interviewing 100's of people over a few years in the social care sector. Affirmative action in the case I described is not necessarily to take into account race but can also take into account sex and culture.
-
Conservatives are on a roll in their quest to remake America through the courts
No, I agree, not the same with college admissions but relevant to the post I was replying to.
-
Conservatives are on a roll in their quest to remake America through the courts
You're assuming a person hired for a job will be the only one out of a group of interviewees who was the best qualified at all times. In reality that's not the case, often when recruiting for a post you come by 2 or 3 people who are all suitably qualified regardless of race/colour. The decision then is which one? If you are recruiting in a low diversity area or organization then it could be said that taking affirmative action in that case is more than justified.

Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
Some good news for Ukraine following that so called Russian mutiny: The loss of this aircraft is likely to have a negative impact on Russian air and land operations. In the short term the psychological shock of losing a large number of aircrew in this manner will almost certainly damage morale within the Russian Aerospace Force. In the longer term, there is a possibility that current tasking levels may have to be reduced to safely manage the remaining fleet. This will likely undermine Russia's ability to command and coordinate its forces, particularly during periods of high tempo operations. https://twitter.com/DefenceHQ/status/1674296770250113026
