  1. I'm sure there's a link in the forum somewhere for the exact form that's needed. You need proof of vaccinations, and a certificate of health from a vet. It's really probably the easiest move we made with our pets to come here. Going back, I believe the pet will need a microchip to leave, but as I haven't done it yet, I can't swear to that, but it's not required to come in to Bangkok, or at least wasn't a couple of years ago. The process on arrival at the airport here took us less than 30 minutes, and was friendly and efficient. I would strongly recommend if possible any pet come here on the same plane as their owner to avoid the heat and delays of arrival at the cargo terminal if they come in separately. And truly as easy as the process was, I don't think spending a fortune on a pet shipping service is necessary.

Our dogs had to fly in the hold of the plane because they were big, but our cat flew in the cabin with us in a soft-sided carrier. Many airlines will permit that. It costs very little that way, so I would hate someone to feel forced to give up their pet because of that sort of concern. Our pets are family. They move where we move, or we don't go (and I know we're lucky to be able to take that position).

Best of luck to your friend!

I brought over my two cats - one 14 year old and the other 18 months from the UK and arranged it myself; there is no need to employ very expensive companies to do it for you . All we had to do was have the cats checked out by the vet and given the required injections some 3/4 weeks prior to the flight, then they arranged for them to get the certificates from the Ministry. The cats had to be checked out I think two days before they were due to fly out. I bought two large cages for them and arranged with Emirates for them to fly out on the same flights as my wife and I. The cats were treated like royalty when we arrived at Manchester airport and the Emirates staff couldn't have been more helpful. As soon as we got on the first flight we asked about the cats and were told that the Captain knew they were on board (albeit in the cargo hold) and he would ensure that the temperature was regulated for them. Our trip out was a two flight job and again the ground staff in the middle east took great care of the cats before they were loaded onto the second flight.

We were more worried about the cats than ourselves; thinking of them in the hold and all the noise etc of take off's and landings, but when we arrived at Bangkok we were amazed to find the cats looking and sounding in great shape. The Vet at the airport gave them a quick check over and if my memory serves me right we paid about 400Baht per cat for their entry certificates. Our house was not quite ready and we had to put the cats into a cattery for two weeks before moving into the house where they settled in with no problems. If I can be of any further help please just pm me.

Best of luck with the cat.

  2. I lIve in Hua Hin and yesterday morning at 0910 I was in the garden and a 'Surface Wave' spread all over my swimming pool. I have seen this kind of thing before in various parts of the world when there has been an earthquake and this was very similar. The area I live in is geologically very stable with (I believe) no know fault lines. I have not had a chance to check on any local reports but it seems a strange colincidence?

  3. As an aside; maybe the shift of manufacture to the Philippines may at last eradicate the steering glitch on Fortuners (well, all pickups in Thailand really) that apparently makes it impossible to execute a thee point turn that bears any semblance to the necessary number of turns that gave the name to the manoeuvre in the first place ....................coffee1.gif

Well 'Fab4', I've got to disagree with your comment. I've always found the turning circle on my Fortuner to be better than a lot of the saloon cars around. Mine is a 7 year old version, but I can't see that making much difference to my statment. Maybe some of the drivers are just too damned lazy to turn the steering wheel a touch more. 3 point turns in a Fortuner are a peice of pxxs!

  4. I wonder if bank managers or some bank staff / local area bank managers or officials are trained in this matter and whether they are required by bank standing orders to regularly inspect ATMs or ATMs in more at risk areas for any tampering.

In fact IMHO banks should have a legal responsibility to be checking ATMs for any interference.

Hate them as we do, you've got to admire their ingenuity! This one looks out of the top draw to me. unfortunately, it's not always possible to use the ATM's inside banks, but I agree that that is the sensible thing to do if possible.

  5. I am not sure this is wise by the Military, I think remove passports and freeze all assets then release until anti corruption finishes with the rice scam investigation.

Most people from the Ex Pat community are supportive of the coup and want elections supervised by the military and many of the current agitators banned from standing till after their trial.

Most definitely remove their passports and freeze all of their assets then release them on condition that they report to the Military in person every few days. Far too easy for these people (who know people) to wriggle out of the country by some means or other. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they already have a number of false passports to hand for such an eventuality.

  6. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-27529563

BBC hinting at an "external factor". The more canny here will know what it is, though more internal really id say.

After 6 months of doing nothing something changed, hold tight this is going to be some ride.

Bull. Just more of the same shallow reporting of the BBCs Jonathan Head.

As I've said before, the BBC seem to have their head up their axxe when it comes to reporting anything about Thailand; they seem to be sxxt scared of saying anything that could be deemed derogatory and fail to report major accidents that occur in the country, but can go on and on about accidents that occur in other countries in south east asia. If you want to get any form of 'in depth' reporting about Thailand and what is going on then listen to the Australian TV channel. I'm from the UK by the way; before anybody accuses me of being 'biased'.

I'm sure that the 'half wits' from the UN, are getting ready to fly a huge delegation over to give their 'advice' and fill a few 5/6 star hotels to help the Thai economy out. This seems to be one of the very few things that they ARE good at spending huge amounts of money on.

  7. Joking right.

More than 500 people still at yellow protest site right now.

That's because Thai people have a thing for laws or rules - they don't like to follow them!

I asked some friends about the curfew - no idea - most told me when they saw uniforms on TV they switched off!

They communicate via social media And don't care what the army says!

Would laugh my balls off if they blocked Facebook! That would really get Joe Soap's attention!

This is probably one of the few things that would get any attention from the vast Thai public. What would they do with their time, if not able to look at all the inane messages and pictures being sent to/from their 'Smart Phones' every blxxdy second. they would go insane!

Maybe, just maybe, people would start to TALK to each other again; but I very much doubt it!

  8. A pair of my Mich are in their 7th year whistling.gif . From manufacture date they are guaranteed for 9 years.........smile.png

Same with me, but I've only done about 80,000kms in the 7 years I've had the Fortuner. These are Michelin as well and still have lots of tread on them and seem fine with no signs of walls cracking or suffering from the heat and humidity. I didn't realise they were guaranteed for 9 years though. I've only had to replace one and that was due to a side wall getting damaged when I hit a very deep pothole somewhere - new one cost 5,200B, but they are very large tyres. I will probably replace the others at the 9 year mark.

Exactly the same as my rides tyres. 265/70x16. The Mich guarantee is 6 years on the vehicle but can be 3 years on the shelf, so a "possible" 9 years from the tyres date stamp. smile.png

Hi Transam. Yes, seem to be very good tyres with good all round capabilities and I certainly will go for the same one's as replacements unless anybody can give me a very good reason/explanation to change to anything else ( I don't do off-roading). My tyres are filled with air and don't seem to need topping up for months on end, even now at the 7 year mark. I've kept the original wheels and don't fancy changing to some of the more exotic styles. A tyre specialist back in the UK, used to tell me that people had more problems with the fancy wheels because they tended to leak on the rim seals due to oxidisation, presumably because of the metal that they were formed from, but maybe this has all changed today?

  10. So it is 6 AM and I am watching CNN. No mention of it.. Let's try BBC.

You've got to be joking! The BBC are sxxt scared of reporting anything to do with Thailand; seems the country doesn't exist for them; but maybe, just maybe they will report this. The Australian network seem to have enough balls to report what's going on from what I've seen over the past few year, so thank goodness for impartial reporting!.

  11. Use black-out curtains when you're out.

Preferably, curtains with a silver 'foil' outward facing surface. Definitely NOT Black - this will only add to your problem by absorbing even more heat.

Your calculations are quite simple, just work on the premise that the A/C is running 100% flat out all the time and multiply the wattage by the hours which will give you Kilowatt hours and multiply this by the cost of a Kwh that you are being charged. This will give you the top end figure.

  12. I actually start to wonder how any bus company can make a profit, seeing the amount of buses that never come back.

This one doesn't look too bad...weekend in the shop, should be back on the road by Monday.

Oh, Yes, and crabbing like a good one. How many of the 'Bent chassis coaches' have you seen? I know that I have seen an awful lot and you wonder in what direction they would go in an emergency, even on dry roads. The 'Lip Service', that the so called authorities pay to any form of road safety is unbelievable and they still come out with their wonderful projections of how they are going to reduce the road deaths year after year. Just a load of hot air from a pile of bullxxxxters.

  13. I sometimes wonder why the journalists bother to go. Surely they have enough sad photos and know it involves death. Soon it will be easier to report on the days when there isn't a fatal bus crash in Thailand.

    Just too sad....

Very strange why the BBC never cover these tragic events in Thailand (or almost anything else here). Seems to me, that they are sxxt scared of reporting anything nasty going on here. Maybe our 'Mrs Queen Elizabeth' doesn't like to hear anything nasty about her rival for the longest serving Monarch? The BBC, seem very happy to cover some lunatic in the USA, who shoots/stabs/murders somebody, or drives his car into a shop front - NOW that's International News it would seem, = pathetic coverage.

  14. The Thai electronics industry as it exists today is dreadful low quality with a massive fail rate, and matches only that of the grade C crap coming from China.

Even China's grade C is better standard than that of Thailand.

Thailand will NEVER knock China off the top spot for being the 'hub' of electrical appliance manufacturing and they are kidding themselves if they think they can even begin to compete with Japan for quality.

Just another 'hub' joke of a story.

Do they really want to become known as the 'Land of Shock' - as in electricution? Do us all a favour and go back to sleep!

  15. Here is another country who going back to the dark ages instead of forward, lots of money

    can't buy wisdom after all...

Don't believe that anybody ever said that it could; but they just confirmed this.

Yet another 'civilised' country, determined to charge into reverse, but I suppose that if some 'natural' disaster struck in Brunei we'd all go running to help, like the stupid idiots that we are!
