1 million baht per month in pensions. That's amazing - you are very fortunate. That"s about £ 22,000 pm or £ 264000 pa, say £ 343,000 gross before UK tax.
Thank you. My sincere apologies. I should have said my pensions amount to 1 million baht per year, paid monthly at circa 90,000 baht per month.

So, does everything become clear on the 1st of January 2024?
There's been such a lot of hype and conjecture by AN contributors with what seems to be the minimum of available information. For me, I've transferred around 1 million baht in pensions from my bank every month for about 12 years and live quite comfortably. It's taxed at source in the UK. I have no idea if the Thai RD is planning to tax me again or not but I do know however, that any reduction in my income will make me consider seriously about whether I can (or want to) continue living here where I support my wife and her daughter (who is at Uni) and her mother. I could return to the UK and have my goverment pension adjusted upwards by around another £200 per month as for the last 12 years it's held steady at £456 per month. But I like living here with my wife and family so would rather not. Is it really likely that the RD might be targetting me and others like me?

3NUMBAS, thank you.
Please excuse my appalling ignorance but can you further explain how the inflation rate falling in the UK accounts for the strengthening of the baht in Thailand?
Thanks,
Joe

Polar Bear, thank you for your reply.
I'm not sure that your assertion regarding MF is valid and given recent events it looks (to me) that MF is unlikely to be anything but a coalition partner should a new non-military government be formed. That surely exacerbates the situation and doesn't decrease the instaility. I'm happy to admit that my knowledge of economics on this scale is sketchy to say the least. So I'm happy to look at this as a learning process.
Again, thanks,

Can anybody explain why the pound sterling (and other currencies) are losing ground against the baht?
It was only a few months ago in the UK that the pound sterling decreased in value when the Prime Ministerial merry-go-round (with Johnson resigning, followed quickly by Truss and ending up with Sunak in office), was in full swing. The wise economic minds said at the time that the fall in value of the pound sterling was mostly because the markets really didn't like 'political instability'.
So, why isn't the same true of the baht? How can it be gaining stength with the current political turmoil in Thailand (that can't be resolved for at least another week)? Don't the same rules apply? I'm mystified and I'd really appreciate sensible responses.
Thanks,
Joe

don't want to think bad, but once they want to get rid of soooo many Sinovacs out there... hmm
If the vax doses were under a towel, how did you get Lot/serial number and why didn't you check the maker? Also where / how did you check via Google?
You say you don't want to "think bad" but you're happy to start a thread "thinking bad" anyway!I had my Pfizer shots at McCormick a few weeks ago. On the trolley full of vax doses, I could clearly see that they were clearly labelled "Pfizer".

Google Android set top boxes - all will be revealed
Thanks, I Googled android set top boxes as you suggested. Not very helpful, although I did read a couple of reviews (but I don't know if those android boxes are available in Thailand, so not much use). Also I saw an ad for a Lazada android box.
Thanks for trying to help but on this occasion Google wasn't my friend. What would really help would be a response or responses from someone with personal experience.

I've read a thread on another social media platform (CMNIE) that says the FOX films and sports channels that are currently part of TrueVision's package(s) and will stop being broadcast from October 2021 It seems that Fox is wholly owned by Disney and that these channels will only be available via Disney+. I have no idea if Truevision broadcast Disney+ but when I checked the Platinum and Gold packages, the Fox channels were still being advertised!
I don't know if there's a similar service but I remember a couple of years ago and as an alternative to TrueVision, different types of "android boxes" were being touted here. Does anyone know, are they still available? Do they still work? If they're OK, does anyone know who supplies them, how much they cost and who installs and maintains them and if the computer link need to be regularly updated? Or indeed if there's any other alternative>
I'd be really grateful for any sensible advice.

Joe -
Sorry to hear you are in pain but seeking advice on clinical matters on this forum really is fraught with danger. Perhaps you should consider going back to the hospital for a second consultation or going to a different hospital for a second opinion.

You don't say which guitar shop you used originally, but 2 that I can recommend are Maximum Sound in Changklan road (opposite Chiang Mai Land) and / or Green Music at Chiang Mai Gate. You can Google them for directions etc.
But you really don't need to go to a guitar shop to set up your guitar correctly and doing it yourself (even as a beginner) is relatively simple. The attached Youtube video explains everything in easy-to-understand language.

Have you tried using the "Restore" function? Pick out a restore date prior to that when you uninstalled your program and see if W10 can bring it back for you.
Worth a try.

I'd like to be optimistic but I'd say that despite the signs, there's little or no chance of any real recovery in 2021. Here's why:
Promoted by the government and TAT there's been a push to get tourists back to Thailand from the middle of last year, mostly accompanied by a number of unworkable, madcap schemes (for example: long term 90 days renewable visas for "quality" Chinese; "tourists"; the Phuket "bubble"; tourists isolated on the islands etc.etc). And of course, all after having survived the onerous quarantine period and regulations.
For clarity (and as far as I understand), the planned vaccinations rollout (for most of Europe and many other countries) will be something like this:
1 - Residents of care homes and their carers
2 - Health and social care workers
3 - Those 80 years old and over
4 - Those 70 years old and over
5 - The clinically vulnerable
6 - Those 65 years old and older
7 - 16-64 years old with underlying health conditions
8 - The police, the military and those in essential professions (who are not eligible above)
9 - 60 years old and over, 55 years and older and 50 years old and over
But even now after all this time, the lunatics who are "running" this asylum seem completely oblivious to the simple fact that the Thailand tourist demographic means they (tourists) are are going to be a long way back in the queue to receive the vaccinations that will enable them to travel. Add to this the various other challenges regarding for instance; booking air travel, booking hotel accommodation, the damaged tourist infrastructure and attractions and so on.
So I would argue that tourists in any numbers from Europe, the UK, Australia, the United states, the Middle East, the Far East, Asia and even SE Asia coming soon to Thailand is only a pipe dream (and also providing there is no 3rd wave!), It's a grim picture but I think, realistic. The main players in Thailand might be better off concentrating their efforts on some sort of revival sometime in 2022.

Joe

I can tell you that the Duangtawan Hotel closed its doors at 10pm on Saturday 9th January. We were a party of 10 booked in for dinner that evening and apart from a few staff the hotel was empty. After the meal, we put our hands in our pockets and gave the remaining waitressing staff a good tip as a send-off. We were told that the hotel planned to reopen sometime in March this year (subject to a number of factors).
As we walked through the empty and eerily quiet hotel to the car park, it was sad to see the 2 receptionists (no, I don't know why they were still there!) closing the doors behind us.
Hopefully it won't be too long before they get enough bookings to reopen.

Hi there,
Does anyone know of a property agency in Nan, that lists properties for sale or rent? I could only find listings under DOT Properties (which isn't in Nan) and which was largely useless. Thanks,
Joe
PS: If anyone knows of any 2/3 bedroom western-style houses for rent, I'd be grateful for some info -
Hi, i've got a clouded headlamp glass on my Toyota Vios and I wondered if anyone knows if there is a breakers shop or similar in Chiang Mai where I might get a replacement?
