  1. The problem is that you want an answer to a question that's subjective. What might be unbearably loud to you may not be so to either the person who is playing it or other people who are listening to it. I play music loudly because that's how I like to listen to it (not forgetting that some genres of music are best heard with the volume high). I do however, tend to listen to my music at the times of day when my neighbors aren't around and almost never at weekends. I've asked my Thai friends and neigbors why they sometimes play music loudly at any time of the night and day and as far as I can make out, their response is "because is better".
Regretfully, unless you decide to move somewhere more isolated it's going to be something you'll have to put up with.

  2. Surely no matter what measurement are being used, the air quality in and around Chiang Mai ranges from vile to life-threatening. In Doi Saket it's felt (and smelt) for a few days as if everything local was on fire. I could have all the symptoms of Coronavirus but suffering from upper respiratory chest infections due to the pollution, make it virtually impossible to tell.

Ya know, I get it. Take a look at the sky, it's vast! Then think about all the land beneath it...little wonder that the manpower available can't cope with the burning and it's seems that the Thai mentality is one of "nothing applies to me". It will be years before they sort this (pollution) out and that's of course if they really want to. This government seems to have neither the inclination, resources or cerebral wherewithal to get to grips with the problem and now they have Coronavirus and a worsening economic situation to deal with too!

Seemingly the government works on a just-in-time basis, leaving themselves in a bind because of the lack of cogent, forward planning. This year is already a write-off and it's possible that in the short-term, things might get a lot worse before they get better...

  3. Yes of course there's the potential for violence, especially when those who have little or nothing become increasingly more desperate. We (farangs) would do well to make sure that we (as much as possible) stay indoors. Of course that won't always be possible and then extra precautions will be needed. There are metal (grill-type) security doors in my house. I've never thought about using them before but now I think it makes sense for me to buy padlocks for them and keep them locked and shut. Personal safety isn't just about social distancing, alcohol sanitisers and masks.

I hope you all stay safe and well and get through this with no problems.

what comes next? limit discussion on the WuFlu terror? make it illegal to contradict the party line? armed soldiers on the streets? (wait, they already did that before). censorship of the internet? an increase in VAT to cover the losses of govt revenues from shutting everything down?

If they keep playing this game and the economy tanks because of it, I would not be surprised at all when there is a revolt against the current regime. Killing peoples livelyhoods and income comes with high risk of consequences. Wait a few months and see.

Steady tiger you'll be giving yourself a heart attack! Aren't the Thai government only proposing to do what other countries are already doing? I don't see you railing against them...take a chill pill man!

Ah, obfuscation covering a sweeping generalisation from a TV troll.

Go away and find something useful to do with your time.

Found them with help of the address they've reported on TM30? Of course not. No point in fabricating such story either since it's so unlikely that criminals make TM30 reports, it would appear completely ridiculous.

Where does it say the police found them "with the help of the address they've reported on TM30"? There's no mention of a TM30 anywhere. It seems to me that you're fabricating your own story!

  7. Recently informed by local moo baan committee that there will be NO electricity tomorrow (Monday, 24 June) from circa 8am until circa 4pm for  large swathes of the Doi Saket area. Don't know why, but rumours say 1) it's because of electricity power line pole renewals or 2) something to do with the new intersection between the 118 and 121.

  8. Hi, arriving at Phuket airport at around 12.30pm and will need a taxi for 2 to Kamala beach. We only have hand luggage. Does anybody have any idea of the likely cost and which company is best (Grab, metered taxi service etc)?
