Well I'm with Jingthing on this. It's likely going to be 2 years just to get the first wave of infections worked through globally and that's assuming that places like Russia and N Korea divulge what's really going on in their countries and not forgetting we also have the African continent to think about where reported cases are seemingly very low.
Governments around the world need to wake up to the fact that this is bigger than they are and that non-disclosure of details is a crime against humanity.
I've lived in Thailand for nearly ten years, I'm married to a lovely Thai woman and I accept I have responsibilities towards her and her equally lovely family. Returning to the UK (even if I could), is simply not an option for me. I live fairly comfortably here, but in the UK I'd be borderline broke even if I could find somewhere to rent. So, I'm going to wait it out here and see what happens.
Good luck to you all. Try to stay safe and well.
Regards,
Joe

Is this for 60 days or 90 days, please? And what is a TM47 for? Thank you.
Neither! As it says in the headline, it's an:"Application for extension of stay for marriage Chiang Mai Immigration 02/04/2020".
The TM47 is:"Form for Alien to Notify of Staying Longer than 90 days"

Given the current situation, do we need shops to be open all day and night?
7 / 11 shops are I believe, restricting their opening and closing times from 06.00hrs to 22.00hrs that would seem to me to be perfectly adequate for shopping.Regards,

Surely no matter what measurement are being used, the air quality in and around Chiang Mai ranges from vile to life-threatening. In Doi Saket it's felt (and smelt) for a few days as if everything local was on fire. I could have all the symptoms of Coronavirus but suffering from upper respiratory chest infections due to the pollution, make it virtually impossible to tell.
Ya know, I get it. Take a look at the sky, it's vast! Then think about all the land beneath it...little wonder that the manpower available can't cope with the burning and it's seems that the Thai mentality is one of "nothing applies to me". It will be years before they sort this (pollution) out and that's of course if they really want to. This government seems to have neither the inclination, resources or cerebral wherewithal to get to grips with the problem and now they have Coronavirus and a worsening economic situation to deal with too!Seemingly the government works on a just-in-time basis, leaving themselves in a bind because of the lack of cogent, forward planning. This year is already a write-off and it's possible that in the short-term, things might get a lot worse before they get better...
Regards.

Yes of course there's the potential for violence, especially when those who have little or nothing become increasingly more desperate. We (farangs) would do well to make sure that we (as much as possible) stay indoors. Of course that won't always be possible and then extra precautions will be needed. There are metal (grill-type) security doors in my house. I've never thought about using them before but now I think it makes sense for me to buy padlocks for them and keep them locked and shut. Personal safety isn't just about social distancing, alcohol sanitisers and masks.
I hope you all stay safe and well and get through this with no problems.

Joe

what comes next? limit discussion on the WuFlu terror? make it illegal to contradict the party line? armed soldiers on the streets? (wait, they already did that before). censorship of the internet? an increase in VAT to cover the losses of govt revenues from shutting everything down?
If they keep playing this game and the economy tanks because of it, I would not be surprised at all when there is a revolt against the current regime. Killing peoples livelyhoods and income comes with high risk of consequences. Wait a few months and see.
Steady tiger you'll be giving yourself a heart attack! Aren't the Thai government only proposing to do what other countries are already doing? I don't see you railing against them...take a chill pill man!

When you say "they", I assume you mean the Thai government, which couldn't be further from the truth. You are basing your ludicrously wild assumptions on a couple of statements made by the Health Minister. The first, we could see was his annoyance at being ignored by a tourist when handing out face masks (and I wonder how that tourist feels now?). This is a n official who is under immense pressure and intense scrutiny AND it seems the alleged second comment originated via a Twitter feed (now taken down) from his office was likely published by staffers.
So you're take that "they" have started blaming foreigners is at the very least spurious. There haven't been any such pronouncements from the Prime Minister's office and experience has shown us that his declarations are what really matters.Regards,

Sorry, seems not very smart..
It's not about where Trujillo was eating. We're all potentially all "at risk" anywhere in Chiang Mai (shopping malls, walking street(s); night market etc) and his point that the Thai government could take action to restrict Chinese visitors has obvious merit, because they then wouldn't be in a position to pass on any infections.
DaRoadruuner's observations regarding the unsanitary personal habits of many Chinese tourists is, I think, equally valid.Regards,

Ah, obfuscation covering a sweeping generalisation from a TV troll.
Go away and find something useful to do with your time.

You can buy a bucket WITHOUT a hole in it in the shops for about 50 baht. Probably works better too!
How is this relevant?

Does anyone else miss this website? It's been offline since the 22nd July to allow time for for the admins to clear out all the "sold" posts. I wouldn't have thought it would have taken this long, I have sent a message to ask when it will be back up and running. but have had no response, so I'm wondering if the site has closed.

Found them with help of the address they've reported on TM30? Of course not. No point in fabricating such story either since it's so unlikely that criminals make TM30 reports, it would appear completely ridiculous.
Where does it say the police found them "with the help of the address they've reported on TM30"? There's no mention of a TM30 anywhere. It seems to me that you're fabricating your own story!

So you've fallen in love...good for you!
Burmese girls / women are in my experience, kind and affectionate and are in many ways similar to Thai women inasmuch as they (generally) have strong family values and even if she loves you, she will always put her family first. You will be expected to provide some financial support for her and her family and to be the provider of as many material things they can convince you to buy. House, gold, car, kitchen appliances etc will be at the top of their list(s). They're not being greedy, just trying to get as much as they can from you in order to improve their own lives.
In return there is the possibility that you will end up in a long-term, loving realtioship with a lovely woman who will care for you in many ways. But be prepared to stand your ground on issues about which you feell strong. You will get no respect from her or her family if you easily agree to everything.
NEVER, let them know your financial position and be prepared to negotiate with her for a small monthly allowance. This will enable her to have some financial independence which will make her superior to her unattached friends.
Anyway...go for it, have the best time you can and remember most of your rational decisions should be made outside the bedroom!

Joe

Recently informed by local moo baan committee that there will be NO electricity tomorrow (Monday, 24 June) from circa 8am until circa 4pm for large swathes of the Doi Saket area. Don't know why, but rumours say 1) it's because of electricity power line pole renewals or 2) something to do with the new intersection between the 118 and 121.

Hi, arriving at Phuket airport at around 12.30pm and will need a taxi for 2 to Kamala beach. We only have hand luggage. Does anybody have any idea of the likely cost and which company is best (Grab, metered taxi service etc)?

"Chiang Mai immigration have now stated they will no longer accept combination methods for extensions."
It's likely that the information from Assist Thai Visa is correct, but why has this important information comes to an ex-pat forum via an agent (agency) and not through the immigration website. Also, is this a "rule" only being applied by CM Immigration or is it a national change. If the former, why is the CM Immigration office allowed to make autonomous decisions?

Please explain why you do it?

The problem is that you want an answer to a question that's subjective. What might be unbearably loud to you may not be so to either the person who is playing it or other people who are listening to it. I play music loudly because that's how I like to listen to it (not forgetting that some genres of music are best heard with the volume high). I do however, tend to listen to my music at the times of day when my neighbors aren't around and almost never at weekends. I've asked my Thai friends and neigbors why they sometimes play music loudly at any time of the night and day and as far as I can make out, their response is "because is better".
Regretfully, unless you decide to move somewhere more isolated it's going to be something you'll have to put up with.

Joe
