  1. Yes, across from Suk 62 around Suk 99
  2. Well, I suppose to some degree it is personal preference. Imho neither Gates nor Bezos are physically attractive to an extent that a woman would willingly chose to be with either of them if she could be with a younger and attractive man. So if it's just considering physical attractiveness, being with either of them would be about the money. Here's where the 41% first time divorce figure comes from: https://www.divorcesource.com/blog/divorce-and-marriage-rates/#:~:text=Currently%2C in the United States%2C 41% of first,20 to 24 have the highest divorce rates.
  3. It is open, I was there Friday. As a foreigner you have to sign up for a queue number for a date in the future for the physical portion of the renewal tests, and watch a video online ahead of time.
  4. Did you watch the video online beforehand, or watch it at the DMV?
  5. Correct, it does seem to be a question of money. Although in Bezos & Gates situations, who initiated the divorce? And was it about money, I wonder. 50% of marriages in the US do not work, yet only 41% of first-time marriages do not work. Which means, 59% of first-time marriages do work. So the majority of Americans stay with their first spouse. Surprising, no?
  6. I don't disagree with your post, although I'd say my experience is a bit different. Nearly all the folks I know back in the US remain married to their first spouse, who is about the same age. Largely these folks are my former classmates, and they are mostly men, although a couple are women. The marriages seem to work. I agree that people should marry whom they choose. Age shouldn't be a factor. In Thailand, many of the long-term expat folks I know are married to younger Thais. The marriages also seem to work. You stated: "But It is virtually impossible for a 60 year old man in the US, Canada, the UK, most of Europe, OZ, or NZ, to hook up with a 36 year old woman, unless she is very fat or very ugly, or he is a centi millionaire, or is famous. Period. It just does not happen in this day and age." This would seem to be true. But flipping your statement on its head, it's probably at least equally impossible for a 60 year old woman to hook up with a 36 year old man in the US, Canada, the UK, etc. Although I've seen this happen in the emerging world (SE Asia, Africa, India).
  7. It's true, having a million USD ain't what it used to be. Thus the term "middle-class millionaire" . Thailand ticks some boxes such as those you've mentioned, but definitely not others. And the downside of Thailand has become more apparent recently. If the millionaires from the West weren't flocking here before, I'm not sure why they would now.
  8. Agree with the above, and sincerely appreciate the advice from a voice of experience. I would add that PR is no longer available to those who merely work and meet or exceed all requirements for application. For a PR application to even be accepted for consideration, currently an agent must be used, and "VIP service fees" must be paid.
  9. I went to DLT near Sukhumvit 99 (across from Soi 62) today for renewal of my 5 year driver's license (auto). For foreigners, there's a separate sign-up sheet for the physical tests - right now the dates offered from 25-31 Oct. Once that fills up, they said they'll start scheduling for November. They gave me a slip of paper to watch the online training video - as below:
  10. Wish I could help on your question, but I think it may best be directed at a law firm. If you do get a clear answer, much appreciated if you post back.
  11. Yes, I've heard that too. Although I've also heard the employee rule only applies to Non B visa extensions, and the Labour Dept doesn't have this requirement for work permits. In this case, I hope the OP comes back and explains how he had a work permit since he did not have 4 Thai employees per foreigner.
  12. To perform the duties of a director, do you need to have a work permit? I remember there were changes made a couple of years back that I thought had eliminated the need for directors to have work permits. I'm just asking in case this could help, I'm no lawyer and would defer to someone else here with more specific knowledge.
  13. Hi OP, have you found out anything more about this? We've been told that the photos must be in the last month (near impossible in "work at home" circumstances with most employees having at best only one jab to date), and not the stated requirement of within the last six months (which we have already).
  14. Since the 4:1 ratio was instituted for service companies sometime in 2007, specifics regarding the photo requirement has changed - how the photo is taken, who is in the photo, people smiling or not smiling, looking at camera or not looking at camera, where in office picture taken, outside office with sign, etc etc.
  15. No, that's not what has been going on, at least in the last two years.
  16. Ahmal Ahmady, the former Acting Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank (central bank) fled Afghanistan on a US military flight on 15 Aug. He was pretty credible, from what I could tell. I doubt the Taliban will be able to muster his equivalent.
  17. That would make sense. However, if that were possible, when I went on 13 Aug for my appointment they could have asked me to just come back the following week, or a future date of their choosing. At least one of the IOs seemed to be trying to help, and I did try to get a "come back next week" as an option. But after three hours, my paperwork was returned. The IO gave me a copy of the 3 day announcement and said I needed to come back then.
  18. They could always use "1 Sep Thailand reopens" as the impetus if face saving is needed ... after all, "Interprovincial transport services, malls, foot massage shops, and dine-in services in the dark-red zone" can all resume operations today ...https://www.tatnews.org/2021/08/thailand-eases-covid-19-restrictions-from-1-september-2021/
  19. It's a big world out there. If you do a search on the Offshore Leaks Database, you get over a thousand entities that are organized in other jurisdictions, but that have links here:
  20. As the owner of a regulated financial company that is under direct oversight of AMLO - from my own experience - I'd say they do a pretty good job. AMLO's interaction with us has been good, helpful & professional. There may be problems with the unregulated companies that operate in the same space, however.
  21. Based on my experience, I would say that no extensions are being processed, or at least for Non Imm B work related (John Drake posted that his retirement extension was processed). My experience: In June, I scheduled online an appointment for my extension to be processed on 13 August at CW. I called the Immigration hotline x1178 prior to the appointment to confirm that it would be honored. I showed up ontime, and was the first person in the door at 1pm. After 3 hours of passing my paperwork around, it was returned to me saying they wouldn't process it, I needed to come back 3 days prior to the stamp date, 26 Sep.
  22. 1. Please see this thread, you can search for my postings from last year there: https://aseannow.com/topic/74654-cameratas-guide-to-the-permanent-residence-process/page/132/ You may see others responses "well, I didn't have to do that." As one member posted: CW Resident Permit officials can ask for whatever additional supporting document(s) they consider necessary to support your application. This is the final clause #23 on the PR application form. " 2. How do I know? Well, all I can say here is people can have a go if they think otherwise. Hopefully they will post back their own experience. I wish someone had posted about this unstated requirement last year. Which is only why I posted now. The only comments I had to go on last year were from people who had applied years ago - admittedly they were helpful -up to a point. Unfortunately, they were not up to date.
