In the main, Thailand has to keep the bulk of the labour force on a low income to keep it competitive, either domestic businesses or international businesses ie the auto industry, or other foreign manufacturers. Thailand itself has nothing to offer. If wages grew to what should be a livable wage those businesses would definitely look around for the next nation to house their industries. If they pulled out Thailand would largely be a nation of unemployed and be in real trouble.
