Phuket: Crackdown on tourists riding electric scooters on main roads
ncc1701d replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
the image in the op are the electric skateboards with the handles (shown above as well). They are controlled by one online company and you rent them via an app (so no idea what “vendors” he’s talking about). I was in Phuket for 4 weeks staying in patong and only ever saw about 4 people riding them. Unlike Mainz, Germany or Adelaide, south Australia (other cities that have them, but are scattered all over the place), the patong ones are generally all parked in the one location and not an eyesore at all. I didn’t partake in patong because they didn’t have helmets. But they are fun. -

Phuket sandbox application taking forever
ncc1701d replied to RandolphGB's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My 18 and 16 year old applied independently and received hkt sandbox in 2 hours and 8 minutes. There are people going to do a washout in hkt for 21 days to get back to hkg that have said they got it in under 10 minutes. My kids used the Thai axa insurance - not sure if that makes any difference or not. I believe you can just reapply without any issues - but not 100% sure on that. -
Current State of US Visa for Thais?
ncc1701d replied to niwke's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Admittedly this was 2015, but my girlfriend applied and got a 10 year visa for the USA. I didn’t believe it was even possible. (I’ve only got a 5 year visa). She’s only used it a couple of times. I’m considering doing a few months there second half of this year and want to being her and have no idea how her visa will be received. -
I am unable to travel to aus from bkk due to flights to hkg from aus being banned. So In order to see my kids living in bne that I haven’t seen for 2 years, I’m bringing them up to Phuket. My timeline is not able to be changed, so after reading here of the problems getting a sandbox Thai pass, I was stressing they wouldn’t get one in time for their flights. They applied and received their QR codes 2 hours and 8 minutes after submitting. I am still in disbelief. It took me 4 days to get my test and go Thai pass back in early December. I don’t know if it’s because they used the Thai AXA insurance or what. I was also stressing that my 16 year old applied on his own merits rather than attached to his 18 year old sibling as a dependent. But he was approved.

Ok. Apologies… Seems like a bit of a false alarm. It’s some sort of online micro lending through some company called “shopee”. She Found out through word of mouth. Friends sister works for the shopee company. She gets the 1% after about 24 hours. More transfers made before chrimbo and New Years etc. not as much at the moment. Not being able to trace transfers back to her was important to me, not her. It’s hardly worth the effort in my opinion. But whatever keeps her off the streets I guess.

A Thai girl I know gets sent money from “someone” with directions on who to transfer that money to. She then sends the money as directed and gets a 1% cut. She has never been asked to send money before it being in her account. When I ask her why they don’t just send it directly to the final account, the reply is something about transfer limits (which doesn’t make sense because they have to send it to her, so why not send to final account). She claims the person she is sending to can’t find out who sent the money. The amounts are small, anywhere from ฿1,000 up to ฿12,000 and maybe 6 transactions a day. Another friend of hers does the same thing. I can’t figure out what is really going on, if only to offer advice as to any trouble she can get into. It all sounds dodgy to me. Anyone heard of anything like this?

Has anyone received phone calls from Thai government department regarding any of this sort of thing?

Jomtien hospital opened for testing at 0800. I got there around 0745, was number 9 in the queue and I was out by 0845. So what should have taken about 4 minutes, took an hour. Pita, but better than turning up even at 0800 imo.

Ok thanks. No one has mentioned it to me at any stage of the pre, at and post arrival. I’ll try and find it.

“On the app”? I’ve not read anywhere or been told about any app to upload results to.

It is free it is a shambles when you arrived they would have told you to photo a QR code which lists the hospitals you can do it at and a contact number to call. they will send you a registration form to fill out (which was completely ignored at jomtien hospital. We were all standing around waiting to be tested when some guy comes and tells us that if you arrived on or after the 26th December, come back tomorrow) the QR code I took a photo of is attached. No idea if it’s updated or what. Contact them to make the booking.

Wise transfers getting very slow
ncc1701d replied to poppysdad's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I’m not overly concerned, although transfer times do seem to be inconsistent. I’ve noticed that smaller amounts (under ฿20,000) seem to transfer much faster than larger amounts. I’ve also sent during weekends or other times I thought it would be delayed and it’s been sent straight away. I still find it the best way to tx money to Thailand and aus.
