  1. ChrisP24 that place looks like a good tho bit on pricey side, but if goes trouble free that's not my primary concern.
Just on the sandbox ruleset :
    • Is the day you check in considered day 1 as long as before midnight ?
    • And at the back end, i presume test on day 6, get results back day 7 (hopefully morning) then clear to leave ?
  2. Sorry slightly off topic re the sandbox.

Was due to travel back late Jan but hadn't booked...obviously had planned on 1 night test n go but now iced.

The sandbox idea sounds ok but if going anywhere outside your room i'd be a tad paranoid about getting the virus then testing positive on day 7....stuff of nightmares...particularly if omicrom gets going on the island which it inevitably will.

I think i'll just take a punt and wait until the 4th to see if any change (doubtful) and if not just go the 1wk BKK hotel option in a nice decent sized room.

Got 3mths up my sleeve so time isn't huge factor, and given i did at least 5 by 2wk QTs for work in last 18mths it wont kill me.

Anyone else in the same boat ?

  3. Just hope Cha-Cha is not going on some personal crusade to redeem his reputation after the botched vax rollout and outbreak this year - that is just going to make it harder visiting during the coming year.

Waste of time anyway, Omicron is in and once up and running will go like wildfire, and looking like causing minimal cases of serious illness.

They need to set a clear target - eg in (most of) Australia at 80% double vax no more QT for OS arrivals, no lockdowns etc

  4. Of course more needs to be done in education and enforcement.

But believe me, you are wasting you energy trying to educate a lot of middle aged to elderly particulary bike riders. They just live in that bubble oblivious to dangers around them and sadly most dont have a lot to lose.

Start with the kids now and you might see some positive change down the track. Repeat offenders confiscate their wheels like many other countries.

  5. Struggling to see how this works - u sit next to covid infected person (not known at time) and go to different hotels and have tests done.

The following day they get back their positive test, the system then needs to find you as a close contact and get onto you before getting your test and leaving...in LOS i think that would be nigh on impossible.

Now of course they can find you and drag you back to QT i suppose ?

And as i just read they are already going to rapid test and no overnight hotel, million to one it'll still be an issue in April next year...or the whole border closed again because of Europe/US blowouts...i doubt it but def would be not booking anything months in advance atm

  6. Wife and SIL there 2wks ago, fully open but quite strict on vax compliance. Good quality accommodation availability tight, Bangkokers with coin getting the hell out of dodge for a getaway after the covid year from hell

  7. think you answered your own question somewhat.

High quality imported pool tiles here are still comparatively cheap v western countries.

The labor price (biggest expense) here is ridicilously low with quality workmanship if you engage the right builder.

And they look kick <deleted> of course, especially with pool lights on

  8. IMO thai food second only in SE to Vietnamese. Honorable mention to singapore which is really a hybrid of chinese. With thai food its not just the flavours, but also the obsession of the natives i think that enhances the experience. Also i am clearly addicted to the chili hit as i long for something hot with rice after a few days of not having

  9. This moron, stupid hysterical media or the medical fraternity who have no reliance on tourist related income in their smug little empires....i dont know who is dumber.

Thailand has 10s of 1000s of cases per day and is never getting back even close to covid zero.

Allowing foreign arrivals with sensible measures, ie test before and on arrival, QT until negative from most countries presents tiny risk in proportion to the country's current caseload.

For gods sake get on with it.

  10. Nothing wrong with this strategy, lot of talk in australia now about possible upsides of mixing vax types, every chance a mix of these 2 would be far more effective that 2 shots of sinovax. Yes of course would have been better not getting so deep into the sino to start with , but the china ties plus cost and supply issues were always going to play their part in the TH vax strategy...its not like theyre the only country thats @%#$ed this up !

  11. Chin up mate, lot of us in the same boat atm unfortunately....

I am banking on getting vax here in AUS next few months, and hoping fed govt push on with this plan for vaccinated returnees from OS being able to home quarantine which negates this scam of the hotel waiting list.

Either that, or hopefully they get this Singapore travel bubble away in few months also so 2wks there on way home then straight home, probably a test on arrival then self isolate until neg result.

So many simple common sense solutions, but between paranoid politicians and power hungry medical administrators, they are milking this for every drop

  12. Finally they are seeing thru the govt and media fear and loathing campaign, proper 2nd wave slowly being reigned in and the sky hasn't fallen in...

There are multiple commonsense measures that can help facilitate the return of OS traveller's.

Momentum is gathering now, and it'll be the peer pressure of their competitor neighbors like Vietnam beating them to the punch that'll get them off there <deleted> and rolling out the welcome mat

  13. At least now they might come to their senses and open up quarantine free to vaccinated people at least from low risk countries.

And before anyone starts bleating about vaxxed still being able to transmit, look at the numbers for gods sake, if you think a vaxxed person coming from somewhere like oz/nz represents a greater risk than someone walking around right now in Bangkok, u are on drugs

  14. Hmm i thought Mexico was a veritable basket case.

And yes thailand has done well for a multitude of factors including climate, pop density, health system, lockdowns etc, notwithstanding this 2nd blow up.

Im mean even NZ and Oz, that have been lauded for their response, clearly had the massive advantages of island states, low pop density, 1st world systems...thus i think its impossible to compare them to a landlocked euro country for example.
