I hope it will never happen to see a nuclear plant working here.
If you got plenty of wind and solar energy it's wasted money.
One of the most stupid ideas here.
However, there are a lot of stupid ideas.
"Land bridge, Formular 1, Casinos, space exploration, satellites and now nuclear plants."
List is not complete I guess.
Solar uses up land that could be used for food production, Thailands strength. Other countries have deserts or other non-productive areas that work well for solar. SMRs are almost fool-proof in design but still should be run by qualified technicians. Thorium energy production will be the next step in nuclear reactors. Westinghouse wants to push really old design AP 1000 reactor designs to the US government that are way old and always ran way over cost to build.

But sadly hardly crystal clear in the HuaHIn area any time of the year, apparently due to the rather fine sand
Thanks, we're looking at seas conditions, not necessarily being crystal blue 😉

Hi Guys, we live in Chiang Mai and am heading to Hua Hin in a week for at least 2 weeks of vacation and am wondering about water sport activities. Is there somewhere for jet ski rental or parasailing along Hua Hin beach area? Have older kids that need a bit more than lounging around 😉 Thanks in advance.

$456-$650 USD is what you call "2 buck Chuck"? As for the AUS$22 red that won the prize I guess your knowledge of wine is much better than the judges that awarded the prize.
Two buck Chuck is Charles Shaw wines, only sold at Trader Joe's in the US. Initially sold for $1.99 per bottle. Has garnered several awards in the wine world. Look it up 😉

You obviously have no idea and you obviously have never had the pleasure of drinking a South Australian shiraz. Here's a short list of some "cheap copies" from down under (in Australian $).
1. Penfolds Bin 180 Cabernet Shiraz: Priced around $1,000+ per bottle.
2. Penfolds Grange Shiraz: retail around $700–$900 per bottle.
3. Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz: A current release of Hill of Grace often costs around $700–$800 per bottle,
4. Torbreck The Laird Shiraz: commonly $500–$800 per bottle.
5. Bass Phillip Reserve Pinot Noir: recent vintages often hovering around $800–$1,000 per bottle.

These are of course the high end of the market. Very, very good wines can also be found at the other end.
South Australian red wine selling for $22 wins top nod at prestigious international award
A $22 bottle of red wine from McLaren Vale in South Australia has won the highest accolade at the prestigious 2024 Decanter World Wine awards in London.
Shingleback’s 2022 Red Knot Classified GSM – a blend of grenache, shiraz and mourvèdre – was one of 50 wines from around the world to be awarded the coveted best in show on Wednesday.
France swept the awards, winning 12 best in show medals. Australia came runner-up, winning eight of the best in show awards, followed by Spain with seven medals.
This sounds a lot like when "2 buck Chuck" from Trader Joes won the top prise many moons ago. Drank a lot of it!!

I grew up in Ventura county, CA, a very productive agricultural area of CA. ICE has now raided the fields there. Strawberries are now rotting in the fields because there are no workers who will come pick them. What is a farmer to do? Aside from the fields, the rest of the county is rather affluent. There are little to no destitute citizens there who will go pick vegetables.

If you came here when the baht was 45 to the USD and you have not increased your wealth, just depositing a fixed pension, ya I can see where you feel like things are going backward from a purchasing point of view. Also, if you came her in the 90's, heading off to tropical islands with pretty young women willing to play with you for a pittance, Thailand has grown up from there. Now the girls are not just looking at it like play for pay, it's just now pay. The playfulness and friendly flirting of the girls is basically gone. The attracting more flies with honey is gone. I miss those old days... They were sweet and much more satisfying!

I'll look it up at Duke’s next session. Been here years and have not made any effort to make friends as we kept saying maybe next year heading back to US. Given the circumstances in the US and the world, we have decided to lay down roots about a year ago. Time to find some buddies.

I have been a member for 14 years and have noted the club evolution over time. Currently new direction to try and revitalize the Chiang Mai Expats Club. First Saturday of the month buffet at Duke’s, Raumchok location continues and is well attended. I serve with Dr. Ava Walker at the “Newcomers’ table to try and help those new or just visiting Chiang Mai. As all reading might note: banking, immigration, healthcare, driving, insurance, housing, different areas of CM, etc. can be a bit of a challenge when first arriving or wanting to learn more about considering settling here. Hope we are able to help some. As to meeting folks, well that relies, in large measure, in the hands of the individual. There are also related sub groups for various interest focus. COVID hit hard, CM is still recovering.
Is this Dukes meeting at lunch and about what time? I literally live across the street from it and have been curious about the expats club. How do I make a reservation? Thanks in advance!

This government cracks me up. Want to bet the law doesn't change, and if there are any changes, they will be cosmetic ones?
I didn't think there was any way they could justify putting so many businesses out of business.
Ya, just like taxing worldwide income, hahahaha!!

I would certainly NOT eat at a restaurant serving Cannabis in my meal! Perish the thought! I prefer fresh fruit and vegetables, not weed, from local farmers!
Wife is from Issan, cannabis is used in a couple of dishes there as a normal thing. Helps with digestion and indigestion. I worked in Shanghai in '87 and came down with serious stomach pains, cannabis dried and rolled up tight into a spherical pill was what was given to me. Fixed me right up without any real psychotropic side effects.

Ya, me too! I spent Jan - end of April on Lamai Beach (absolutely deserted) right on the beach at Pearl of Lamai (my big window looked right at the little island with the outdoor "gym" on it) during the height of COVID (country was basically closed to get in). Was the only guy in the resort for almost all of my stay, $500 USD per month for their only 2 bdrm place (they just needed to keep the lights on) with a 7/11 right next door and a Family Mart across the road. By the end of Feb, the 7/11 closed as well as almost all of the restaurants nearby. If it was not for New Hut (been there forever!), Tropical Toe-nees (thanks again you guys!), Tips Tacos, Live India (been there forever!) and a few other restaurants, would have been a very poor experience. Have to say, walking from the north of Lamai down to Grandmother and Grandfather Rock without running into another living sole most days was surreal.

Total agreement here. I travel back to the States frequently, a minimum of twice per year and I can tell you for a fact that Americans right now are rather joyless, and lacking in humor, they don't seem to be enjoying their lives very much, they're living, working, eating, and sleeping. Not much of a life, and many of them seem bitter, disenfranchised, disappointed, highly divided, and utterly joyless, no thanks.
Agree, I just got back 3 weeks ago (go back every year to work for 3 months) and have to say, even those well off financially are somewhat depressed. Some of that comes as the America they grew up with and loved is being morphed into something where a kid can't just walk alone or bike blocks away to a friends house without someone wanting to call child services on the parents. The idea a kid should never get hurt physically from playing or having to deal emotionally when your friends don't like you one day (but are back being friends 2 days later) or that a kid should never cry. Crying as a kid means their upset about something but does not always mean something is wrong. There is less socializing as people are more and more glued to screens in all forms, creating real emotional isolation and I think people subconsciously are aware of it leading to a mild type of depression. It is also the 1st time in American history that the generations coming up will generally be worse off than their parents and grandparents unless handed generational wealth. Lastly, there is also the gut feeling that now we, the US, are the bad guys in the world right now when we used to stand up for what was right. Pretty much summed up here.

Is there a link in the CM forum for the current paperwork requirements for Non-O Marriage extension renewal. This will be my 2nd one. Re-entered on a multiple reentry permit mid-May. Current extension expires Aug 23rd. Will have the money in for more than 2 months in a week. Any guidance would be helpful. AN word search looking specifically at CM requirements was unsuccessful. Thanks in advance!

So, as I get older, my nose is going out over my septum causing back pressure that is closing the opening between the nostril and the nasal cavity. This needs rhinoplasty to fix. Wife's suggestion is that if your going to do that, might as well do a face lift along with that. Admit, excess eye skin is becoming an irritant also. Question from the audience is if there are equitable medical facilities in CM for such or do I need to go to BKK to have this done. Any direction on this would be appreciated. As always, thanks in advance!

Trump's Tariff Troubles: Thai Academic Sounds Alarm on Key Issues

Right now he is the boy who cried tariff. The investment market is basically ignoring him as he will cave in the short term. It is just attention getting. It's OK, his own party is breaking apart over Epstein and he is already on tape saying it was all made up by the democrats. His time is coming...
