it is not the Outback in Soi Arunothai, but the Outback in SSCC - dark side!
I can pick you up in town, We will be in Sri Racha for a check-up in the evening and go to the darkside after. Pciking you up gives me a good excuse to go into town again later
I have been a Friday night flop again. Had an anniversary one Friday, missed the agreed on target once, and last night my evil twins excessive behavior on Thursday night Fri. am coupled with an O My God is that the sun, bed time, I lost Friday.
Sorry I missed Raro and Monty, 2 of the stalwarts. I know the 2 of you could have gotten into at least some trouble.

Sounds nice, haven't been to Outback in a long while. Only problem is my transport.
Do they have a taxi guy like Noi's did/does?
If no transport, I wish y'all well and hoist a few for me.

Sorry I missed it, but had an anniversary to celebrate. Decorum restrains me from saying which one, but silver was some time past.
So when you live in Pattaya where do you take your wife for your anniversary?
A brothel of course. (non Participatory event, you can look but touch and I'll tazer you)
A brain fog of mammoth proportions caused me to purchase one of these electrifying devices. Here Honey happy anniversary. OOOWWW!
After dinner at Mata Hari, we were feted with cake and champagne at 2 WS establishments before the all but forgotten Limo ride home.
Hope to see the gang on another Friday, if we heal in time.
SWRWS is still only partially awake as 2:30 pm approaches. I hid the tazer.

kdf - baht bus runs right past the top of the soi. When past the roundabout and heading to Naklua, after Star Dice keep a look out on the left side for Drum and Monkey then Ryans Bar followed by Eor and then laundry and Family Mart on the corner of Soi 18, press buzzer, get off, walk down Soi 18 and you will see Leo Blues Bar on your left. Bloody great sign outside!
See you tonight
aussiechick
Thanks! I also found said place on a map.
Now it is up to my evil twin to let me sneak past the chrome pole farm on WS.

I'll be there probably a bit later and stuff my face at Baecker Peter pr Anton's before that. Anyone else joining for a real German treat?
German haute cuisine sounds good to me. Now to try and organize transport.

I will propose a bar for a Friday meet up, in keeping with the original purpose of Fridays (to investigate new and mysterious drinking opportunities). It's already been mentioned by aussiechick: Leo's Blues Bar.
I think with 5 or more attendees I can swing some kind of deal, so let us know, and please provide a preference for either Friday 2nd or 9th.
Hey Ace, need to say where the bar is.
Darkside is a no for me.

OK what the heck is with all this water stuff? Driveway is a new Pattaya Dive site, Thappraya is a dirty sewer/creek about to fall into the giant unsupported holes dug around it for some new engineering project, why?
Why so much water, I don't even drink the stuff? I assume all the engineers in this part of Thailand are planning the next mega mall, condo project, or mail box and no one can be bothered with DRAINAGE.
Oh yeah, we also had the electrical outage that is Thaispeak for rain.
If you made it out have fun be safe, swim across the current not against it.

Ola Begs and Mama,
Place other than WS OK with me, just needs be on Baht bus route. I have often suggested Food Loft at Central, many foods many prices, but they have suffered a bit of late in the quality dept..
Heck I'ld walk a ways to see you 2 on a Friday night, or any night. Will not walk to darkside however, and not always pleased with what is on offer over there. Probably need more education, do enjoy Noi's however, but getting home after can be dicey.
PBG is a nice neutral kinda place, but I won't eat there. Haven't been to Trpical Bert's in a bit, time for me to visit there probably anyway.
So my votes are for TB or PBG or somewhere else with decent food and at least a bit of alcohol.

Well well
That was what I was lookin' for. A Raro and Phil, and a few others, you know who you are, drink up was in order. Lets face it other than us gallant few, who could keep up?
Well those could, but they moved to Korat or somehow became respectable.
After my time in Bangkok I am happy to report that they have Jack Daniels and better burgers, but they ain't got walkin' street!!!!!
It is also difficult, if not downright dangerous, to get completely saused and try and talk to a newly arrived Australian in the same pidgin English that we chrome pole
worshipers of WS have developed. Telling a stranger that you sure would love to squeeze those, can give the wrong impression w/o the shared history that makes the word "those" less ambiguous.
Really!

I heard rumors that a motley group of ne'er do wells used to congeal together on Friday evenings for drinking competitions.
Are these still on?

Glad to see some noise re Friday debauchery.
It warms the cockles of .. well my cockles I guess.
Have fun and don't do anything I would do.
Hope to rejoin the roving marauders of the chrome pole palaces by next Friday.

Richard and Mary Jane,
I was so glad to hear that at last you have at least some resolution to this horror. As expressed by others, we could all wish to have siblings as strong and loving as the two of you.
I am also proud of Thai Visa for wha help and support we have been able to offer.
Dale, rest in piece and the knowledge you are loved.
Godspeed Richard and Mary Jane.
Hope the guilty hurry to the seventh level of the hot place.

Bruno better food than Manhattan, but I prefer decor in Manhattan
Have only eaten there once, but Mantra at the Amari is very nice.

The best I've ever come across in my life is a young lady who works at L'Oreal Salon in Central Center (Festival) next to the Baskins & Robins icecream shop. Her name is "Sa". Fast, efficient and very fussy...and nice hands too. She doesn't speak much English.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I'm so confident I'll refund the price of your haircut if you're not happy.
Is that the one on the top floor close to stairs leading up to the cinema? There were two next to each other. The one that I used to go to is the one that's no longer there.
Yes, that's the one.
Been there yesterday, it is the l'Oreal shop that's closed, "A Cut Above" next to it is up and running and actually the shop I used to go to. Or did I confuse something?
Anyways, they met almost all my criteria but one frickin' hour for the cut is half an hour too long. As I said, I hate sitting motionless in a barber shop and having someone going snip-snip-snip....
Price was ok @ 250 Baht.
Raro,
If you are willing to take reccomendations from a mostly bald guy....
I had a haircut day before yesterday (way overdue) at Hair Well at Central Plaza, uses L'Oreal products, currently 10% discount on 250 baht wash, head massage, cut, and dry. I was very happy with Zita, however,
try Kuhn You. You might not care how your hair turns out or how long it takes.

I come from San Francisco and am used to weekends in the wine country and GOOD wine with most meals.
The cost of wines here is ridiculous. I know tax, too much. I have tried most of the wines mentioned in this thread
and so far only one is drinkable. That is the red Goiya (sp?) from wine connection. This quality of wine will be used mostly for
cooking and an occasional glass. It is not cheap. Best buy for a white I have tried was the Monkey Puzzle Chardonnay, around 300 baht, from Villa.
Of course they no longer have it and the 3 Chardonnay bottles they have said were the same or better, were crap.
Cold red wine is mostly for cold duck, wine spritzers, a nice Sangria, or wine so awful that it can not be enjoyed at proper cellar temperature. I envy those
capable of enjoying such stuff. I have trouble spending what is asked here abouts for a decent bottle of wine unless I have at least tasted it first.
Unfortunately, Thai laws have made the tastings that Wine connection used to do a thing of the past.
However, they are currently offering tastes of the red and the white Goiya for 90 baht.
What about taking the problem in our own hands and a few who know (or would like to know) good wine buying a few bottles to share and try together?
We might find a restaurant willing to forgo the corkage fees for getting a few more diners. If this works it would help us find enjoyable wines and provide a pleasant evening out.
Anyone?

I know Raro and how convincing he can be.
"hey kdf, you said we were going to SHARE that bottle" "oh oK"
If he can't get these folks to make sure he is satisfied with his service after soo much time I see little hope for anyone's success.
I have some Biz Maxnet subscription w/ Open dns and its the best combo I have had. It gets slow, bounce me off, takes a while to reconnect,
but most of the time I have a connection and some of the time it is close to 75% of the advert speed.
I am OK with this, though far from happy. I can't imagine trying to run a business that depended on Internet connection
with these companies.
If it works, great. If not NO help, complain a lot maybe no Internet.

I won't be able to make it tonight.
Have an evening at Mantra promised to SWRWS.
Have fun, be safe.

we needed indeed a bit of clearance to navigate the narrow turns WS has past midnight...
I had more trouble with the speed bumps.

Well none of my "friends" on this board bothered to tell me what day it was, but I have other sources.
After much research I found out that today is Friday and that tonight is Friday night.
R we gonna meet?
Or R we gonna wait til Saturday?
PBG then onwards and downwards?

Sun dog diner
very cute interior, nice Americana, currently soft opening limited menu. large space, feels awkward empty.
hope they do well, but don't have a lot of faith.
Hamburgers very small and not the best taste. Mos size or a little larger, inexpensive, 150 or so. Better than Mos, News cafe, and not as good as HJ Bean's burger.
Still no decent burger in Pattaya. Try Bully's in Bangkok for a good burger.
