  1. Well Friday night out was a weird one, and possibly gives some hints as to why they are not all the success they once were.

Bert was the consummate host as usual. He tried out 2 of his chicken recipes on the gang. 3 of the gang were bright enough to order the whale on a plate. From my position across the table the beastie looked even bigger than usual.

I think that was my first trip without a whale on a plate. I shall remedy that soon.

    The jazz pit was great.

One couch had experienced way too much tom cat attention, but once that was dealt with by some distance, the place was great. Very nice design with a lot of polished wood and jazz, real jazz.

Those of us who remained stayed until they shut down around midnight. The sax player left before that, he was apparently a volunteer. The drinks were about the same as the average walking street gogo bar price and NOT watered down which is certainly diffrent from many local establishments. I will be back.

The WS finale to the eve was not well attended in numbers, but spirits were good and plentifull. I for once got home before sun up and that was a strange experience

I have hopes for the Friday night romps, but they are tuff. We are a disparate group with widely varying tastes, disposible income levels, and transportation methods.

Thanks to Phil for my first Thai motorbike ride, got me thinking Ducati again. I appreciate the time eveyone offered us, we had some good laughs, but I was most proud of the support for members not doing great.

Hopefully we are after all friends. I appreciated folks good will towards me and my continued health battles and more so with the help and good wishes offered SWRWS for her upcoming surgery. I got to comisserate with another member about the horror of back pain and the disabling BS it offers and many offered care and good wishes to others who could use it.

Since the group kinda broke apart, some thought it was a less than stellar evening. For me both the laughs and mostly the other stuff made it one of the best ever.

    Thanks to you all.

  2. Jazz Pit???????

Is there a real jazz joint in the area that no one has told me about?

Manhattan's jazz is new and as yet untested but the description sounded right. However, a place calling itself a pit has a certain appeal in and of itself.

I vote for jazz pit after TB.

As for numbers, I will be there and SWRWS may come, but she would order from the Thai menu so doesn't count in the sausage round up.

BTW, raro where do we get the bus? looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the gang. Raro is your better half going to be there?

  3. Bert's sounds OK by me. bout 7:30ish. Since Begs has spoken, surprise he chose Bert's. I like sausages a sizzlin' and will hope a beer lao is around. Always good to see TB.

Sometime we should do the food loft at Central, a nice bowl of pho for 90 baht, ain't bad, great view also, jug of Henie for 250.

Where beyond? It has been forever since I have heard actual real live jazz.

  4. Chief wrangler = raro, oh that is right you are new.

Raro is chief wrangler for bus trips. (sorry)

Naw the organization is a bit loose, anyone says lets be at x at time y and we go.

I would pick 7ish at Bert's or Central Festival food loft (lots of choices sure to make some happy, but does cost more than street vendor) for eats, head over to PBG around 8ish and discuss where we go from there.

    Sounds familiar?

  5. Bert's was the original Friday night starting spot for me and I enjoyed it.

    Time to start there again?

I seldom went to a Friday nighter when we did not end up around the Chrome poles.

I like the pub crawl, chrome pole walks, however they do exclude the wives/gf. Some are comfortable or even enjoy these joints others aren't.

I would not hang out (pun intended) at Boys Town, so I understand.

My wife is now bored with WS. What else is there in Pattaya? We could alternate, one Friday with chrome poles one without.

We don't need to avoid WS altogether, PBG is an OK place for all. Not sure I could spend all night playing minature golf or eating ice cream,

but how about a night every now and then when we can take the ladies out someplace special. Manhattans now has Jazz, hopefully at a volume that does not preclude conversation.

Our method is that if we have enough saying they are going and we are going to eat somewhere where we can enjoy the food, she who runs with scissors will likely be there.

If the next stop is a conversation friendly place like PBG, she would likely stay with us, after that I have no problem cabbing with her back home and deciding to go out again or not.

    Ideas?

  6. I have showed up often when no one or one or 2 did. So what, I don't need a crowd. Health has kept me away for a while but this Friday is looking good.

Egad though, you guys eat too early. 7pm is close to lunch time. I also am aware that there are other cuisines than British available around town.

Eat somewhere near WS, drink until something or someone stops you.

Always been a good formula for me. I also enjoy chrome poles, ETOH, etc. on other nights. Was last Fri with some TV'ers, nice small group.

Got 2 other nights planned this week, so If I have enough liver left by Friday, lets do it.

  7. Egads, by the unholy wings of the witches of the ninth level of Hades.

    What is going on?

I am not generally known for my patience and I had to ferret through umpteen pages to find this near forgotten thread.

    Is it Friday?

    Are we going out?

    I are ready.

  8. I for one am very pleased with the new mall.

The food loft is nice with good views and variety for a group. Some of the other restaurants are also worth a visit. I can't wait to see what a Moe's burger, a famous Japanese burger, might be. The pepper place is Okish, but expensive for the top steaks with no ambiance. The shabu sushi place is fun for a visit, but be picky the salmon varied from crap to excellent, as did a few other items. Not my kinda place long term, but it was fun for a night. The grocery store is good, but still leaves me heading to The Villa, Foodland, and Carrefour to complete my pantry. Way too many clothes and shoe shops, but that should work is way out.

I found the people at Banana It to be a big plus. I bought a special order 7,000 + external hard drive and it developed problems. They had a replacement ready for me in 2 days, no problems, only smiles. I have been ill for a bit and had one of my pain episodes while there. They were wonderful in getting me into a chair, getting me some cold bottled water, and showing willingness to do whatever I might need to feel better. After a few minutes I was over it and after many thanks I now have a gang of IT folks that always waves, smiles, and asks me how I am doing. Their prices are also good and I would recommend them highly for both IT and their nursing skills.

I was happy to see all the kitchen gadgets in Central that I usually had to go to Bangkok to get.

I agree with Meg on the fragrances, I couldn't find YSL's Opium. Of course Phil has a point also.

  9. Mrs. Raro asked if Mrs. Connors will show up. And what about Mrs. KDF?

PBG sounds good to me - they do serve food, well...sort of...

/edit: whatever happened to Papanoodles and her lovey begsaresponse? Long time no see!

She who runs with scissors will not be with us, she has other plans.

soooooo PBG does not have food I will eat, any other ideas or I can meet later.

There is a decent food loft at Central. Good pho with pork, chiken, or beef for 90 baht.

    kdf

Central also has parking, not sure of cost, but think you get a voucher if you buy something. Drinks at the food loft are not cheap, but beer seemed to be ok priced.

  13. Its Friday yet again, any plans for tonight?

well...the usual I guess...only both of us turn up and then you drag me from one gogo bar to the other...

    Usual stuff ehh?

PBG at 8 ish or food place at 7ish. Follwed, of course, by our civic duty of chrome pole inspection?

Maybe have to start a bit later as Mel's may be on.

  14. What is this low key?

I and a few others do sally fourth, more likely sally will have a fifth.

If any y'all are out and we don't run smack dab into each other call me and we may hope to connect.

I wonder what a go go bar looks like with no music or dancing????? Bring flasks!

If you a regular and don't have my number, ask me next time and we will trade.

  15. Ok Crowboy helped me figure out the skipped day hangover, thanks I think you hit the liver on the lobe.

You are welcome - years of experience and a certain amount of expertise in these things.

Bare and I discussed movies and the geography of the US of A, Wyoming is not a city in Texas.

Bare who? bare back broke bare back - Where is Wyoming a city then?

Soundman and Raro showed they are still alive, I got home about oh my god o'clock how bout you 2? I coulda shown you more re the vodka bar, but the flow seemed to go. Next time.

    The Castle?

Now to further offer my clueless nature of things Thai, what is Kabin? Is it a suburb of Surin? vice versa?

I think the Kabin is an offshoot of the Castle

I don't remember when Screws and Phil and Monty left, I was talking to them around 4 am when I heard a request for a lady drink and the spell was broken and I found myself alone amongst a bevy of beauties, again.

Did you get your lady drink and who bought it for you?

She who runs with scissors has mysteriously left me alive and kickin', I am afraid .. I fear the reckoning!!!!!

Hope all is better with her health

thanks again to all there and commenting

Hope to catch up with you guys in a week or two

    CB

Ola Crowboy, not sure what or where the Castle is, but heard it is S&M type bar. Not my taste.

So if Kabin is a little Castle in the woods, no thanks.

I got so many drinks I was unable to tell the gender of the drinks, but still could tell the gender of the ladies, I think.

Actually had a mamasan buy me a drink just before she took me to the establishment's "limousine" to send me home. Great service,

but I am afraid to check my remaining funds to see what I might have done to deserve such service.

Thanks SWRWS health is much improved, dengue yuck!

Let us know when you are in the neighborhood or see you in CM.

Hey where are we going this Friday? Can white lightning strike the same place twice?

I enjoyed our trip to Surin and time at the Farang Connection, if we went Kabinwards would we be close enough to stop by FC and say Hi?

Saw Begs and Mamanoodles today seemed like they survived and seconded the notion that the talk time at PBG was one of our best. I know they left early, but they also started early, I know, I was there.

Buckwheat, you always leave me with a few memorable one liners, hope to see you more often. Say Hi from us to your lady and next time we hope my other will be there.

  17. If in Texas or much of the US southwest and its evening, especially if there is a campfire and more so if there is bourbon, you are likely to hear a tale tail or several.

So, Bareback Mountain was a 'tale tail' at a campfire, and not a true reflection of Texan mores and culture then?

Do you still have a functioning liver, by the way? Doesn't seem to have filtered out much of the juice in 48 hours.

Reason for edit - many too many typos in a two-line response

Liver seems to still work, thanks for asking.

Sorry I can't help you understand your questions in regard to your bareback movie, I never saw it.

Did hear it was about some kinda tail though, butt what you watch is up to you. As a public service announcement, please wear condoms, the bear should never go bare no matter what kinda tail is the subject of the evening.

Now Brokeback Mountain, a movie about 2 men in Wyoming, is a different tale and found in the mainstream section of the movie rental emporium. Please be warned, however, that while Brokeback Mountain deals with homosexuality it is not graphic porno and tries to be a movie about more than the sexual activities of the characters, but how the mores and culture of their world affected their lives and love.

    Be safe out there.

  18. Just wondering from those with more experience than me,

is it possible for a hangover to skip a day and murderate you on the next day?

    kdf

Yes it is possible - the trick is to drink sufficient for the liver not to be able to remove sufficient alcohol to make a hangover possible.

Must have been a good session

    CB

    Howdy Crowboy,

Thanks, that just might be it! Hope CM is treating you right.

On another topic, rather than taking offense, which I am sure was NOT meant, at the comparison of yarn spinning to male cows excreting, I will take this opportunity to try to elucidate, shed some dim light on the topic for one and all not blessed with being from the southwest US or Hawaii or I guess most places with the tradition. Yarn spinning is an art with the primary goal of entertainment. Unlike bulls00t, it is best when it contains a bit of reality or even a greater truth.

Bull leavings are often done to deceive, that ain't yarn spinning or a tall tail or talk story.

The tall tales can be told to a group, but meant for an individual, as long as all are at least somewhat entertained. Tall tales can have the teller or an other as subject. An unwritten rule is that

if the teller is the subject that while the tale can be heroic the teller must always come out a buffoon or dupe at some point. Very easy in my case. The tall tail is never meant to insult or belittle another in the audience other then the teller

and should be judged both on its immediate entertainment value and possibility of being remembered or (the holy grail) retold. Wiki Pecos Bill for some fakelore that was such a good tall tale that it became folklore.

If in Texas or much of the US southwest and its evening, especially if there is a campfire and more so if there is bourbon, you are likely to hear a tale tail or several. If in Hawai'i on an evening and there is alcohol, food, Hawaiians, and haoles you can be sure that what you are hearing is talk story, or tall tales, especially if the hoales are eating poi for pu-pu's. I suspect a similar tradition exists in OZ, perhaps with a different name. I certainly have been entertained by a tall tale or several from folks hailing from that continent down under.

Hope ya do make it down for a night out again or see you in CM. We can share some tall tails again and if you want you can call yours bullpoop.

I am going to sign my liver up for a membership at Tony's Gym or Bumrungrad surgery, time will tell.
