  1. I wrote some time ago about my experience with the ugly thai women baht bus pick pockets on the Jomtien to Pattaya line.

Their method was for one to sit next to me, a "pregnant" one stood on the step and 2 fatter ones attempted to engage me in conversation.

I tried several times to offer my seat to the "pregnant" one, but she kept refusing, strange. At a stop all of them started to get off and I noticed my wallet was missing. One was getting on a motorbike that had been following us. I grabbed her arm and started shouting thief. She threw my wallet under a car and while I tried to pry my massive frame under the car to get my wallet they all disappeared without paying the driver.

I got my wallet, with all my cards and money and the driver seemed oblivious to the fact that 4 people had left without paying. Suspicious enough for me, 5 left without paying.

I was with another BM and our wives some weeks later when these same miscreants got on our baht bus. I said very loudly "thieves" and theatrically covered my wallet and cell phone. My friend is a volunteer police guy and he just pulled his badge out of his shirt so they could see it. One said o police very good, pressed the stop button and they all got off.

Something should be done about these repeated acts, nothing will, tits. I agree with the poster that said things will get worse, they will and I see no way to stop them.

Thailand wouldn't let me bring my Texas toys or my Texas burglar alarm. Probably for the best in this instance.

Be safe, pray for real metered taxis.

  2. I'm living in BKK now, but intend visiting ptya for a weekend of drunken debauchery either end May or start June depending on when I finish this pipeline. After 12 weeks at sea, i need a 48hr dose of ptya's finest chrome poled establishments. When I have a confirmed date for getting back to thailand, i'll post here and hope to catch up with a few of you again.

Would be good to see you again.

    Let us know.

  3. Last nite around 11pm, internet down, this am internet (maxnet, down telephhone dead, this afternoon electricity also goes out.

    I have a fit.

Lights now on, phone works, maxnet works but slow.

    Is Singapore a civilized country?

  4. To the OP.. Maybe you could ask them straight and find out why they are calling you Mr Bean?

Thanks to Meg_2003, pattaya _girl, tropo and others I have been able to see through the haze and find the galleries.

Someone coulda told me ya had to be logged in. Anyway I was so inspired I put up 2 of my pics and have scheduled

a bearskin rug shoot of yours truly for some time in the future.

    kdf

ooops is this a double post? or am I just on the cusp?

  5. I really like Raro's method to find us, just keep ringing the bell.

Anyway since SWRWS says I have to clean up since the maids come tomorrow (anyone care to explain this to me),

    I assume Friday approaches.

I repeat a suggestion from the not too distant past, why not meet at the food loft at Central Festival.

Good views many different foods to satisfy most types, not sure if they much mushy stuff however.

Nice walk or easy baht run to PBG where drinks are cheap while we plan our further adventures.

If we started at a more civilized hour, say 8pm, they are supposed to have live jazz. However, this week

may be the exception to the music weekends. So I will meet 7 ish at Food loft or later at PBG.

Glad to see you took your gallery pics down. Just checked they were not there, never saw them, but people judge folks enough on looks to cause you grief, or a lot of attention, esp.

from this group. You would not believe the number of unsolicited marriage proposals, and less formal suggestions, I have received based on my pics and my nick name. A few were even from women.

Just goes to show you the worst thing about a public forum is the same as the problem with public transportation... they let just anyone on.

  7. Meg_2003 and Pattaya-girl, I mentioned in another thread that it had also been toooo long no see for me.

I well remember the 2 of you and I got to say 3 to 5 words to Ken at Fairtex also so that makes 3.

I thought then and for quite a while what interesting stories might lurk within y'all.

Your presence at one of the Friday nite crawls would have been welcome.

Now unfortunately, we end up in ear splitting go go bars, where no one can hear anyone's nickname or story.

Tall tails and talking story are holy sacraments from my Texican and Hay why in roots.

Yours might well be worth hearing. If the Friday nite group becomes again what it once was, think seriously re the invite y'all will receive from me.

  8. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH

I remember a time when this board was not quite so contentious, or is it just tongue in someone's cheek?

Nick names are meant to be fun, have fun or go post about swine flu.

Syd may or may not look like Mr. Bean, meg_2003 may or may not look like barbie, I may or may not look like what was it Mick Fleetwood and Kris Kristopherson ( jeez I wish).

I like what one poster said, wear a nickname given you as a badge of honor, maybe one you give yourself is a tad tarnished.

SWRWS name is rather scatological in Thai. She doesn't shy away from the fact and most everyone remembers her with a smile and/or chuckle.

Get it nick name = fun. Board getting boring= not fun

    kdf

  9. I agree with the suggestion to accept your nickname, unless it really seems to be used negatively or you just can't take it in stride.

While most objections you may make to the use of this nickname will only insure its common and widespread use, here is one more idea.

If in your group there is a Thai that you are on friendly terms with and who also has some standing in the group, take them aside and attempt to express your dislike of this nickname and ask if they might help. Of course this could

lead to the point made above of cementing your nickname in stone.

I am the kind of guy that would never be nicknamed Mr. Bean. I have seldom been offered any nickname here in LOS and have missed that. Now I look something like a NFL lineman who long ago gave up the gym for the pastry cart and joined an unsavory biker group. That may limit at least the nick names I hear. I once, addled by copious applications of JD, begged the folks I was with at the time, both Thai and foreigner, to grant me one. What I got was not completely satisfying either, but I did find a use for it. I use its acronym for my user name. So maybe just make the best of your nickname. Now how Meg_2003 got the nickname of Barbie is a true mystery to me.

  10. OK what happened at this beer bash? Was it as advertised?

Would it make a good spot for future starting points for Fiday Nights?

All this leg work I put out and no info! :)

Best way to know what happened is to be there, perhaps the only way.

Many of us never have any clear recollection of the events.

But For the Lone Star State I will try.

I got there after 2 BM and their wives had been enjoying the free draft Tiger and Heine for some time. I remember starting in with a vengeance.

I somehow received an inedible cheeseburger with excellent fries that one of the Thai wives ate most of. I forgot beer was free and started ordering JD.

We left, we went some places with chrome poles. Other BM's left I ended up in one Bar with a lady from another a go go.

Stumbled to the "limo" found myself in the right condo with a big headache. (this is better than in the wrong condo with no headache, believe me.)

PBG has been part of many past Friday nite outs. Me thinks you confuse the informal Friday night with the official name tag nights sponsored by Thai Visa,

    different critters, same results.

Beer was consumed. Fun was had

  11. Thanks for the advise, its nice to know. Its my birthday tomorrow and plan to go to Koh Larn on Friday.

We will go on the 20 bt Boat as usual as the quotes for the Speedboat are ridiculous.

What makes me laugh, the Speedboat owners, hanging around, always try it on - saying that the Boat for Koh Larn finish, saying I am too late. Hoping I will Pay there price and jump in. no way !!!!

Happy Birthday!! Have fun, be safe.

  12. Yes, some of the responders in this thread are women, to repeat another poster so what?

Are you looking for help or a dating service?

    You go KDF! :)

...Long time no see by the way.. hope you're well! :D

Glad to see you and pattaya_girl more active of late, or was I just impaired of forum vision and y'all were there all along?

We are well and hoping the same for you and yours.

  13. AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHH!

Pig's feet. Have you ever been on a commercial pig farm? Pig's feet spend 90% of their time

in what has accurately been called a fecal soup. An all too vivid a visual and olfactory experience for

me to get past to eat one of those things.

    Maybe if I didn't know...

Not sure how serious to take the reference to chicken cloaca, but I did see on a Bangkok riverside menu

Dried Fried Fish Bowels. I could dig up the name if some of you are so inclined.

  14. The Indy and The Premier packages from Maxnet are very different. As Monty has said they vary based on the number of folks sharing the line.

I had Indy here in Pattaya and while speeds inside Thailand were good, everything came to a crawl when reaching USA or Europe.

Also when people started their late afternoon early eve surfing/gaming my speeds also went way down.

I bought premier and have a MUCH faster link to the sites I want. Also less slowing at busy times. I hope to buy a higher level connection when again offered.

What Barry has, and I suspect Meg_2003, is the lower cost per unit Indy. Perhaps in Korat

the Indy package is not as hampered by line sharing. Also Meg_2003 maybe in a lucky pocket of town where the line is as yet not overused.

It was impossibly slow for me despite the nice high advert numbers.

I also have found Maxnet's speed test to be irrelevant to USA web site surfing speeds.

If most of your use is in Thailand, by all means save money and use Maxnet's Indy service. Also give it a try

for your local, may be fine for all your uses. If not, go premier.

Are you looking for help or a dating service?

Do you have any friends over here? If so get them to help. If you have been a good tenant a timely call, email, sms, should be of help.

    If you haven't,.........

    Good luck

  16. Used to go to 'Brasilia" in Singapore often.. a few rum based cocktails and a huge feed of meat.. What more could any red blooded male want ?

I have also tried the two in BKK .. Both good. So glad to see a Churrascaria open in Pattaya.. Hope it is up to the standard of the others.. 1000 baht ( if all included ) is pretty good value compared to other foreign themed food places.. Easy to spend 1000 baht on a simple Indian meal in soem parts of town.. Of course the Mantra buffet is only a little more expensive and you can eat mant varieties of imported food there till you burst..

Guess will have to give it a go ..

Which places in Bangkok? The good one I knew about Fogo something near Paragon area closed down and is now some other type of bar/eatery.

The other I know about is Suk soi 8 and the meats are meager, not replenished, and of lower quality than I enjoy.

BTW, the Fogo something in the Venetian in Macao is excellent, or did I say that already?

  17. It is Friday,

Friday later on is Friday night, right?

    Where we go?

I always prefer places I can get to by Baht bus so I don't have to try and pick the least

impaired driver to take me back to the light, brightside, whatever. Sometimes the choice of least impaired is tuff.

Central festival mall has a fine food loft with great views and enough different choices for most everyone. Pho for 90 Baht.

You can even save 3-20 baht and go to the basement food court. I prefer the view at the food loft.

We should also consider Marty's wake at Tropical Bert's, but not tonight. That one will take some planning.

    kdf

  18. I like many here have spent some time with Marty and always appreciated him. I did not know him as well as some, my loss.

I especially remember the first Thai Visa sponsored party we went to in CM. We knew hardly anyone and Marty took us under his wing for hours.

As a Texan I once commented on these pages that propane was best used by cartoon character Hank Hill and should never be used with real ribs.

After tasting his ribs at Tropical Bert's Thai visa night, I wrote public and private apologies praising his propane tickled ribs.

After that whenever we saw Marty we were most often sitting together, when he was still for a moment.

I will miss him, my life could have used more Marty in it.

  19. Ladies and Gents

As you are all aware we lost one of if not the founder member of the Friday Night Piss Ups recently, Buckwheat. He was always first on parade here and always folowed the same routine, Milk, Pea and Ham Soup followed by plenty of beer. He often checked in for the night so he could follow you all to walking street, even when he started to have health problems he would always try and attend on a Friday wherever it might be. If I heard that phrase " God Damm It! " once I heard it a 100 times whenever Buckwheat was around, especially the first time he set up the BBQ in the car park and security tried to tow it away, he had put the chimney over the wall into the adjoining hotel forcing an evacuation !!. Things went a little pear shaped with this and that and I will take responsability for some of that but Fridays will always seem a little stale without him. So after checking with George if anyone would like to raise a glass to Buckwheat this Friday you are more than welcome to join me here, I will lay on some Ribs but dont expect them to be upto his standard, he showed me the Dry Rub but never the Sauce, that recipe is still with him and rightly so. About 7.30 ish would be good, names please

    Bert

Bert I think this is a great idea. SWRWS just got back from surgery and I know she won't make it, but if she is well enough for me to leave her on her own for awhile, I will be there. Sorry for the uncertainty, these are uncertain times.

Thanks for this offer. Buckwheat will be missed.
