With respect I think you have it back to front. They can start as police officers and then graft their way up until they are multi millionaire property owners/ resort owners/ entrepreneurs/successful businessmen and then they can retire from the police.

Oh, thanks for that. I thought it didn’t look right when I typed it ?

    have a a good weekend

4,000 baht a day must be an outdated figure. According to Deputy Prime Minister Thanasak Patimaprakorn, daily tourist spending is expected to increase to 5,200 baht per person this year (20174), from 5,100 baht last year.

Source: Thailand expects tourism revenue of nearly $50 billion in 2017 (Reuters, 9th January 2017).

Even less difference between tourists, or even a family in perhaps four weeks, spending about 5,000 baht a day, to cruise guests spending almost same amount, just some 20% higher, in one day only. I would rather invest infrastructure in 10 air-loads of 2-week average "quality" tourists, that a ship-load of 1-day guests...:whistling:

Actually, why bother with the ‘invest infrastructure’? The TAT will be forecasting a further billion or so tourists queuing to enter LoS, regardless if the infrastructure is there or not

tonight, curried cauliflower and potatoes...I posted a number of different ways to prepare this also including cooked chickpeas...I've been making this since the 80s using Roz Denny's recipe from 'Rice beans and pasta' from the Sainsbury's Recipe Library...

Roz uses fenugreek seeds which is a secret ingredient but not available in Thailand but I've got some that I brought home from saudi...gives it a whole different flavor...

for a medium cauli and 2 large potatoes in a soup pot:

one large chopped onion fried in 1/4 cup of neutral oil until translucent...add half head of garlic mashed with heaping tsp grated ginger and chiles to taste in mortar (mashing the garlic, ginger and chiles together is the best way I've found and they are a common mixture for curries), stir for a minute or two, then add (heaped tsps):

    2 tsp ground cumin

    1 tsp tumeric

    1 tsp ground coriander

    1 tsp sweet paprika (optional)

    1 tsp fenugreek seeds (optional)

stir fer a bit, add a splash of hot water if it begins to stick to the pot...

add 3 or 4 roughly chopped thai tomatoes, mix and simmer for a bit until the toms break down...splash more water if necessary...

toss in the cauli in florets and roughly cubed tatties and mix and simmer fer a minute, add a splash of water if necessary...

add chicken broth from a cube to cover the veges, adjust salt and pepper and cook until the veges are done...

mmmm, good...with the tatties ye don't need rice, bread or etc...ye can add flaked coconut and yogurt at the end but I prefer not...excellent in the fridge the next day...

sounds complicated but it's not; I can have all the ingredients simmering in less than 30mins (including washing and chopping, multi - task when things are in the pot) and ready to eat in less than an hour...what ye gotta do is think about the preparation before hand, 'grok it' so to speak, and then when you have all ingredients assembled it runs right off yer fingers like Chopin with Claudio Arrau...

hookin' down the cauli and tatties right now with Nocturne #3 on the box...nice glissandos....

Makro have fenugreek both in leaf and seed form.

  4. In our tropical island paradise (down south) both Bisto & onion gravy mixes are available in Makro & Big C. Suggest you check out local branches of these establishments (if you have them, that is). Also check out the outfits that push mail order food supplies on TV. I have seen the items you’re search for advertised. Unfortunately, at the moment I can’t remember where. If the info comes back I’ll let you know

  5. “Thai media comes out in support of government plans to stamp out ‘foreign mafia’”

”Thai business people allege they were duped by Myanmar scam promising Bt200 mill return”

”Thailand’s goal is to become a ‘developed’ country within 20 years”

”ThI Transport Ministry to move forward to get the country’s civil aviation industry accepted globally”

Thats it, I’ve had enough for one day. I’ve only just start reading today’s ThaiVisa and these are the early stories. Anyway I’m off to visit the local hospital, I may have cracked a rib. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

I've seen nor heard any "official" confirmation beyond Prawit's speculation presented as what he called "solid evidence".  He the fact she "might have been" in the car was solid evidence.

    No proof whatsoever.

If she had been in the car at the checkpoint and allowed to pass through, why aren't those in charge of the checkpoint already in the calaboose with a decent interrogation team climbing all over them?

What people want to believe and what is actually reality gets smeared into confusion all the time in the Thai media drama scripts.

Could it be that particular 'checkpoint' is the infamous 'inactive post' where all & sundry government officials get assigned to do nothing while still getting paid?

  7. Thanks Schlog, I'd considered this but would like to check out other possibilities.

Jimi, the 'system' as such is a simple tank with heater element feeding three bathrooms and kitchen. The heater element as packed in, darned thing is only four years old. Trouble is tank is in loft/roof void and access is via a small trapdoor so cannot simply replace tank. Worry is, we don't want ceiling damage through water leakage during whatever work is done. Having seen some of the works carried out on friends houses we're trying to avoid this damage. The electric shower way would be a last resort. Thanks for your comments.

  8. Help required if possible please.

looking for recommendations for good plumbing/electrical company that can service/repair domestic water heating system or install new system. Chalong/Patong/Phuket Town company preferred.

    many thanks

Fresh unbleached flour is only slightly less white than bleached flour.  The colour difference when made into a loaf is negligible.

By "processed" you probably mean that it's made by the Chorleywood process.

    Chorleywood ......mmm...Mornington Crescent
