They're setting up a little colony here in Mae Jo, I was told for Chinese only. Chinese still have "china town" in all the cities they were allowed to immigrate to, ever 100 years later. That girl at the start has a YouTube channel of building a super low budget hippy retreat in Chiang Dao which is catering mostly to Chinese friends. She's probably pulling lots of Chinese and who knows it could be the new Pai for Chinese since whitey has taken Pai over again. I know of an area in Mae Jo which has been colonized by Chinese by way of making a housing project decorated with Chinese artifacts and flags. 80% of people at immigration in Chiang Mai this December were Chinese so yes huge numbers there and they seem pretty permanent.

Going to Phuket as a tourist is like a cow taking a morning stroll in a slaughter house. The levels of tourism and commercialism there are grotesque, feels more like an amusement park than a real location in a real country. Went twice during COVID when it was dead and will never return. Too may other nice places to visit that aren't ruined.

Curious now, does Bolt have a standard fee per kilometer across Thailand or does it fluctuate with location? Only been the Phuket twice and I think the farthest you can could drive is ~50KM north to south but is 570 baht a typical rate for that distance?

Dirt bikes are tall and could smash your organs on impact? On the other hand even a normal fall can kill you if you if you hit your head on impact with the ground.

Bias much ?.... While many motorcyclist are indeed reckless, there are also many pedestrians which show an astonishing absense of self preservation. I'm not sure why you think the riders of 'dirt bikes' are any worse than other riders - perhaps the noise they make has impacted your judgment ? I missed that, shame on me. The dirt bikes and larger bikes in general are fun to drive fast so that's why people get them. It's just a fact those guys are driving faster than other vehicles. The other reason is that often they come off of open roads and don't adjust their pace when they enter a residential area. I see this all the time. It's not JUST them, the pickup drivers transporting produce from the mountains are by far the worst offenders of anyone.

Exactly I live in a similar area and these guys often come in packs and tear through little roads at high speeds. That was my only point I ever made, it's reasonable assumption this guy was doing the same but we don't know that for sure of course.

that's a very reasonable assumption. The women may have been standing in the middle of the road waiting for cars to pass and bike slipped through a gap and found her right in front of him without time to react. Many such cases.

yes we know we're making assumptions in lieu of information. It's all fun and games on the internet, why else use the forum? I didn't even know until later there was another article which stated she was crossing the road so at least we know that much. Also note I never condemned that specific individual with certainty, I'm just saying we have a problem with dangerous driving and dirt bike riders are often culprits, Thai or otherwise so it's very possible he was driving like so many of those people I see.

They'll let literally anyone rent any kind of motorbike with or without a license then they're off to races. You could step off the plane first time in Thailand go rent some huge dirt bike because it looked cool, find some YouTube video of Mae On rides and then have Google maps take you straight through some tiny village. Rules of the road only exist in your mind when you're out there. Literally anything could happen, dogs, children, 80 year blind women and you're expected to be watching out for all of them. It's an accident waiting to happen.
