  1. Very unlikely there's any video evidence unless it was a security camera on a home. They didn't say where exactly this happened but you can kind of see from the picture it was a small 2 lane road. Here's a random but representative road in Mae On district. As seen on the map this is a very rural area next to the mountains. These dirt bikes amongst others love speeding through the little villages on their day trips. The victim could have been some elderly women who isn't prepared to deal with high speed traffic. The one thing we DO know is that you should always be respectful and never drive fast in residential zones until you're out on the open road. Even if you hit someone and it was their fault the Thais likely won't care and expect you to watch out for others, regardless of what they do. Look how they live right on the side of the road. They step one foot outside and they're on the road. It's an accident waiting to happen so be careful.
  2. Thai people often play "frogger" crossing the road and inch out slowly and wait until the vehicle passes them. This can really confuse tourists that don't know if they're going to fully cross or not so they swerve around trying to avoid each other. I almost hit a person once years ago because I didn't understand this. Eventually I ended up totally stopping in the middle of the road and the guy was so confused as to why I didn't just keep going.
  3. I understand most people here aren't in Chiang Mai and especially not the surrounding the rural areas so you have no context. Why I'm going off is because I am familiar with these areas and I'm telling you there is a distinct culture of motorbike riding which incudes "big bikes", Harleys and dirt bikes and often flying at insane speeds through villages. Both annoying because those bikes are extremely loud and dangerous because narrow roads, dogs, elderly etc... This isn't a Farang problem, they're only a minority, most of them are Thai and they include tourists too from all over Thailand. Obviously if you do this you eventually kill someone. This is obvious to me so I'm not surprised someone got killed under these circumstances and yes it will happen again. Don't forgot about the useless and lazy Thai police that don't enforce basic road safety and could prevent this from happening some times.
  4. She was probably walking along the side of the road as is common rural areas and perhaps turned around too quickly or something and some guy smash in to her because he was going at high speeds on a small narrow road. This could have been an 80 year old women too for all we know and was just not paying attention. Those poor people get terrorized.
  5. bigoted, you mean daily lived experiences? How many bears do you have to see <deleted>ting in the woods before you know that bears <deleted> in the woods?
  6. dude I'm so sick of these people. It was just the holiday season and they swarm me this time of year. I did see some Thai guy on a big bike hit a pickup truck (both of them on driving in the middle of the road around a bend) and broke his leg. 200,000 baht to repair his B&M bike too (I knew a family member of his). F*k that guy. Many such cases.
  7. Quick search tells me this is 9% of the total GDP.
  8. How is Si sa ket getting colder than mountains? makes no sense. Does anyone have proof on their own measurements? Checked Goole and it was 60F at 8:30am in Samoeng and 69F in Si Sa Ket. I can confirm the temps in Samoeng are basically correct.
  9. We don't know anything about this case, the women could be at fault. Point is there are swarms of people (including Thais from s*holes like BKK) driving like maniacs also. There's a culture of this here. Farang on dirt bike on Mae On fits a profile too. Just looking at that guys face I've seen these people before. Very good chance he's to blame here but we'll probably never know.
  10. So many people come to Chiang Mai so they can rent motorbikes and go speeding around without any risks of repercussions like back home. I see them all the time and it gets worse every year. Chiang Mai thanks to its international airport is like a portal which can transport turds from the most far-flung reaches on the earth and throw it right in your face. Some random women living her life in the outer regions of Chiang Mai now has to be worried about literally anyone anywhere in the world arriving in her village and driving like a lunatic.
  11. Follow up to my previous post. Clicking the link should take you to timestamp 6:00. The trailer passes another vehicle and pushes the car in the other lane nearly off the road. And to the 7 dead in the previous video, consider that they were run off the road too while going 125 (they were traveling at that speed) and that's why they hit the tree and now 7 are dead including 2 children. Some reckless drivers are hung but that family is still alive. How is it not moral and just to take the situation more seriously and deliver proper punishments for an act with the potential to kill entire families in a single movement?
  12. probably going too far this time (although he could have killed people) but there's such an incredible problem with road safety in this country having a zero tolerance policy feels like the right thing to do some times. This video just popped up on YouTube. 7 killed including two children who were twins. Maybe a legit accident but how many pickup trucks have you seen driving like maniacs, speeding through narrow gaps to pass, tailgating and all the stuff you see daily here. These people just killed themselves but they could have survived like the Korean man and killed 7 of some other family who were driving safely. Risking getting hung for reckless driving would be a fitting penalty for Thailand and save many lives in the end.
  13. Are you saying wife beating leads to strong and fulfilling marriages? It is actually a fact that there's an inverse correlation between wife beating and divorce in the west, as wife beatings have decreased over time the divorce rate has been rising. Does correlation equal causing though? 😂
  14. I'm in the mountains in the north and it's 18c now (confirmed by my own readings) but will settle to the same temps as Si Sa Ket in the morning apparently. Weather in CM is always hotter and it lingers in to the night. Older people tell me it used to be cold in CM but it's not anymore. Even way outside the city in the outskirts get the heat from the city. No place to spend the winter if you're traveling from down south.
  15. Apparently the colder temps in the north are over stated. No idea why all the people come traveling here this time of year then. It gets 40c+ in the north too, I don't think it's much different in that regard. I've only passed through Isaan and it was noticeable hotter and humid (but never in the winter) so I'm incredulous that it's getting colder way further south and at lower elevations. The one time I went to Vietnam the weather was far cooler than Thailand so maybe there's a weather pattern that carries over.
  16. Here's another curious one. You know Pai that mountain town which is 800km north of Si Sa Ket, sits at 500 meters elevation (where Si Sa Ket is 150 meters) and is surrounded by mountain peaks reaching 1500+ meters? Well Si Sa Ket has a lower minimum temperature. I see the Bangkok tourists driving up north to Pai and wearing hats and mittens but they should have just gone to east to Si Sa Ket and it would be even colder? 🤔
  17. As Chiang Mai is packed full of tourists from down south to enjoy the cooler winter temps I see this. Are these numbers bogus or is Si Sa Ket colder than Chiang Mai now? All over Isaan is colder too apparently. Maybe the million+ cars and pollution are creating a heat island and ruined the weather? From the looks of it you want to be in Isaan or central Thailand by the Cambodian border to enjoy the winter in Thailand. 🤔
  18. Are we talking about the same people? Just opened up the YT channel and this one was one top. That's one of the 1000 people the cops "murdered". 300+ million people in that country and you care about these 1000 worthless ones? We should be happy when it ends like this, better than another person getting hurt and wasting tax payer money over decades of incarceration.
  19. what can you even say. Thai people so often have a total disregard for the safety of themselves and others. I just do not understand it.
  20. Damn Bangkok is only 29. No wonder they're all traveling up north.
  21. The lowest I measured was 14 this year. Winter in the north is bittersweet. As soon the weather gets nice people start burning and then it inverts into the most miserable time. Sad really.
  22. Go watch that channel I posted above. The cops aren't going to get in to a wresting match with you and risk you getting their weapons and killing them, which does happen and seen on video. Why do we dwell on the lives of these 1000 troubled people who can't behave instead of focusing on the rest of the society that has to live with them.
  23. Has anyone seen the channel https://www.youtube.com/@PoliceActivity on YouTube? It's endless videos of police encounters. The whole thing is just a disaster. I don't always care for how the police are acting but look at the people they're dealing with. It's not like Thai people who are generally calm and non-violent. Everyone has knives and guns, fighting with the police endlessly. I don't know what's supposed to be done about it.
  24. no I mean why is THIS story appearing instead of some random civilian getting murdered? That would be much more sensational yet I don't see those appearing in social media. There's always some back story or people are resisting arrest and reach for their gun etc... I have seen bad shootings before from deranged cops but it's vastly overstated from what I can tell. There's tons of videos of police getting shot too but those don't make MSM either. Just saying there's a narrative the MSM is pushing.
  25. I wouldn't be a cop in America, no f'ing way. Too many people have bleeding hearts for the worst of society and the media will track you down and ruin you if you make the wrong move. Just look at what they did to Derek Chovin (sp) who's in jail for life and then recently Daniel penny who got off but spent 18 months in jail if I recall. Lesson learned do not intervene with black criminals they have a free pass. It's just not worth it.
