I've only been to Hanoi and the people were very aggressive compared to Thais. Not good vibes at all. I wanted to go to Sapa (which was annoying because of the people). Won't go back, should have gone to Da Nang I guess.

Thailand doesn't know what they've unleashed. I've never been to Pattaya but I've seen videos on YouTube where Indians completely dominate the area. I may just be an old-timey racist but I don't think those people can coexist with the European and other Asian tourists. They're just a on a different level. Having said that my boss and my team I work with are all Indians (we're programmers and boss is from the US) and they're nothing like the rabbled masses I see in Thailand. Clearly it's a massive country so Thailand must be getting the bottom of the barrel from them.

there's girls working all sorts of jobs all over Thailand. The problem seems to be when you get in the late 30s then I rarely seem them employed outside of government and white collar jobs.

Thailand has a real problem with mass tourism. Entire regions and zones have been totally token over and Thai people stop even coming to those places. I can handle Europeans and backpacker kids but I'm not going to go some beach which is packed with Indians or yelling smoking Chinese people. Like the Thai's I will simply avoid these places. Probably many others feel the same.

I've head first hand their distaste for Chinese and especially Indians (they do enjoy Chinese movies though so there's that). Whose counties do they migrate to themselves? White countries, by far. That should tell you all you need to know about who they prefer. We don't even need to get into interracial dating/marriage stats which paint the same picture.

Thai Senate Approves Landmark Change to Child Discipline Law
NorthernRyland replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
One of the reason I moved out of CM was the proliferation of housing projects. Thai's are doing the exact same thing now and it's sad. If you look a Google maps over the city you can see it's just one big sprawling mess of these horrible congested housing projects often off of busy noisy roads. It's just depressing to see them adopt this and it's probably even worse than America because of how artificial and cramped they are. Yet they're lining up to live in their box with the mutlti-decade mortgage and car they need to drive everywhere. Sad. -

Really? Housing prices are one of our most serious problems now but I see most Thais living with family in generational homes. Maybe that's true but it's because they aren't owning their homes in the same we are. We would have the same rates I'm sure if people never moved out of their parents house. The availability of cheap condos may the reason too but that's not a great way to live and probably leading the decline in birth rates since it's hard to start a family like that. -
Thai Senate Approves Landmark Change to Child Discipline Law

The real joke is they're doing their alignment during the time when the West is in catastrophic decline and falling apart across the spectrum. All the worst ideas that led to this decline they're now adopting and striving for. They really have no clue. -
71 and still doing this? 🤦♂️The truck may been doing some high speed passing too or got pincered by another vehicle shining into their lane. You can never overstate how to useless and culpable the police are too. Any person from a country with sane driving could point what's wrong all days but even after decades of driving the Thai police can't even begin to start tackling the problem.

I've had enough of the Tourist Ghettos in Thailand!
NorthernRyland replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
what is Loei like the coldest weather in the country or something? The drivable mountain peaks around here are 1200m and I don't think they're going to get 8c tomorrow but I've never actually been there in the early mornings to measure. Weather in CM is hot garbage. Too much pollution and cars put a heat blanket over the entire region. People tell me it's colder in Isaan now. There's a tip for Bob, stay away from Chiang Mai, at least 100 kilometers in any direction. -

Nice so much better weather than Chiang mai province. I didn't know it got that cool there. I haven't seen even close to 13c this year in Samoeng and it's more north in the mountains and even higher elevation (500 compared to 250 in Loei). We got rain the other day and the temps seem to be dropping now but still won't hit 13c tomorrow I bet. -
New Thai Police Chief Sets Bold Crime-Fighting Agenda

I don't like Thai's have reached the level of civilization where they understand corruption is like poison and it kills everyone slowly. I've talked to them about this before and they seem to understand it's wrong at a surface level but also a sense that's it's the privilege of officials to do so. I'm sure it's part of the brainwashing they get in school towards authorities in general. Submit, bow, acquiesce etc... -
DTV visa extension
NorthernRyland replied to JoseThailand's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It makes more sense when you consider there was no official agreement between the departments. Immigration may think it's a joke too but no one ever asked them. What they did totally turned the whole immigration system upside down and they did this unilaterally (a person mentioned one guy signed off on it) but that's not the same as going through parliament or something. My brother has basically given up on running a business in Thailand is trying to sell now. One of the primary reason is the hassle he goes through every year and apparently he has to pay bribes just it through do extra documents requested etc... That's how immigration normally is so what you say about soft power makes no sense they would tolerate this. -
DTV visa extension

Yes but it's not even been 6 months since it was issued. What remains to be seen is what happens when you get past the 12 month mark. -
DTV visa extension
NorthernRyland replied to JoseThailand's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I think this is debatable. It's like how you see them build roads here and then rip them up to install utilities. The departments don't communicate and then have conflicts later when they have to interact out of necessity. Maybe this time it's slips through though and they have no choice but to honor it? I don't know how it will play out but unless everyone agreed it's time to end the annual extensions there's going to be some conflicts eventually. This begs the question, why have the 5 year elite visa? Why make retirees, married people and business do annual extensions anymore? -
New Thai Police Chief Sets Bold Crime-Fighting Agenda
NorthernRyland replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
but where are you going to get this new man from? The police are paid a pittance and pulled from the lower ranks of society where there is apparently a commonly held belief that corruption is an acceptable way to get ahead in life. Fixing the Thai police would probably require some sort of mandatory anti-corruption campaign starting in the very early years of schooling. Unless the common man and society believes corruption is wrong and they feel shame about it nothing will change in my opinion. -
New Thai Police Chief Sets Bold Crime-Fighting Agenda

Speaking of police escorts it's so baffling to me they insist on driving on such insane speeds through cities. They're blocked off parts of the road but someone could easily make a mistake and get on to the road and have some nasty collision. Even the police don't seem to understand basic road safety here. It's truly a lost cause. -

well you don't understand the brilliant system they have. The police come AFTER you've been hit and killed but stay in the office until then. It's all very logical and sensical once you wrap your head puny farang around it. -

Crime is already so low in Thailand. It's the frekin' idiots on wheels that are going to kill you. Why Thailand can't figure this out is beyond me.
