Cash is king.
Yes for the moment. We are every year becoming a more cashless society and eventually everybody will have to conform else you will not be able to operate financially. The younger generations tend to embrace these things and the older less flexible will just die off

One would have to question why they need around 250000 officers for a start. Is their no cap on the number they employ? The UK as about the same population and employs around 160000.
One of the reasons there pay is so low is this sheer number of officers that means that an increase of 5,000 baht in every cop's monthly salary would cost the government a politically untenable 15 billion baht annually..
They should cap the number of Police and then they might be able to pay a more realistic wage and hopefully bring down the amount they borrow.

What could possibly be a "lawful" reason to flee?
You are injured and someone offers to take you to a hospital for one. Maybe you are a lone female and the other driver becomes so aggressive that you fear for your safety. Obviously you would have to prove these as a defense

To the covid Vs road death, you can't catch a road accident , they're not infectious, but yes, more should be done to educate drivers and enforce laws. Safety helmet is prime, farang not wearing one, pull and ticket (happened to myself several times), Thai, don't worry.
Where I am RTP are having stop checks every week and many riders are stopped for no helmet. I even see the riders carrying there helmet on there arm until they see the stop check and then they will stop and put it on. They know they should be wearing them but it spoils there hairstyle. If you want to educate them take them to the morgue and show them head injuries.
I have said on many posts before that helmets are similar to seat belts the only people you kill or injury are yourself I would rather they concentrated on offences that potentially can kill me DUI red light offences ets.. Posters will reply that they are taking up hospital beds and it costs to have someone in hospital. I would say it does not cost me anything only when someone wipes me up..

After hundred more people died on the Thai roads at New Year - and more drunks than ever got behind the wheel - a deputy at the Royal Thai Police said that he was happy.
After stepping out of a helicopter following surveys of traffic returning to Bangkok yesterday Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat claimed that there were 20% less accidents this year.
So more people were killed and more people drove drunk but their were less accidents, Surely its more the outcome of people in an accident and the cause than how many accidents. These stats just show their must have been fewer damage only accidents then.

Fleeing from an accident without a lawful reason should have a mandatory prison sentence.

One of the main factors with Thai drivers and particularly motorcyclists is that they always have to take the shortest route. They will come out out of places that require a left turn but instead will try to cross 4 lanes of traffic using tracks that many before them have used. Even turning right they cut the corner without sometimes being able to see any oncoming traffic in the road they are turning into.. Couple that with a drunk rider and you have a recipe for an accident..
One of the first things I would do is make sure that their are keep left bollards at a Give Way/stop sign or road markings

When your drinking you do not know what affect its having on your liver and other organs but if your waking up every day with a headache and are unable to got through the day without alcohol then that is an early warning sign that you should be acting on.

I do not see one post above yours that someone as said they are a better driver than a Thai and yes the old arguments will come out because the same Government announcements come out every year without improvements. You could inform people, who you call uniformed, rather then prodding to get a reaction.

Taking money from anyone besides the rich is the best teacher. Fines and loss of licences,if they have one,and if they don't, the privelege of driving taken away, is what the US does and it works. Some will continue to drive, and kill, until they're put behind bars for awhile. Of course they don't care, meaning the goverment, which is blatantly obvious, and until those that don't care are removed and replaced with those who do, this will never change. Texas where I'm from before here, allowed drinking and driving for a long time until people got fed up with family and friends dying, and the laws were changed. After that, the amount of drunk driving accidents plummeted
I agree fines work but they have to be realistic based on the defendants means otherwise you might as well say go straight to jail.
I dont see Thais have reached the point where they are fed up with family and friends dying it just seems accepted.

Exactly. If I was a politician would I get into power by announcing we are going to create massive fines and crush your vehicles if you dont comply with our rules

Massive fines work (sorta) in other countries.
Why is Thailand any different ?
I can only speak for the UK but if you get a large fine you are allowed to pay it off weekly and the courts can get that direct from your employer, Their is no such system in place here and if you expect some Issan farmer to go a pay a fine every month good luck with that.

Then let us say better policing and fines or prison sentences. Maybe time for action and not making excuses for them?
I am not making excuses for them I see the reality, I would love the Thai roads to be as safe as other countries but you live with what your given.

either way its gunna hurt their wallet.
They are not the owner. You lend your car to someone who gets stopped for dink drive and they crush your car. Yeah

If that is the case, well they should treat the privilege of being permitted to drive a little more seriously. Strong punishment is the way forward...along with education. Simply because they are poor is not reason to allow them to drive around drunk killing people!
I didnt say because they are poor they should be allowed to drive drunk. I am saying that as a punishment massive fines would not work.

Fines they would not be able to pay. Vehicles being crushed is not on as most need to use their vehicle for work and a lot are on credit so the driver will not be the owner until its paid off.
The Government have no wish to implement harsh punishment because it will upset the majority of Thai people and not exactly a vote winner, plus do you see Thais marching on Parliament demanding tougher action on drink drivers?, Its only foreigners who see the devastation because it would be unacceptable in their countries. I believe the accidents are accepted by the Thai government and general public as part of life.

If you think an overweight lorry is considered a minor infringement then I take it you have never been involved with goods vehicles. If overloaded it causes:-
The front wheels to be in less contact with the road therefore making the front brakes less inefficient and the steering to have less of a feel.
Overheating brakes and tyres. causing blowouts and in some cases loss of wheels.
Greater braking distances required causing brakes to overheat.
Suspension bottoming out so the chassis is sitting on the axle.
Loads that are to high cause vehicles to tip over when turning.
Basically if the vehicle is overloaded then its doing something its not designed for and thats why trucks have max axle and gross vehicle weights

I would have thought an underpass was the best option for the kids.. Better protection from weather and no height restrictions for vehicles. Although I appreciate probably more expensive.

Do they have vehicle examiners who can validate the drivers claims or do they just except the excuse. Most of the accidents in trucks here blame brake failure but its more likely a driver failure because he expects a large vehicle to stop as quick as a family saloon.

What's the battery life with a bidy cam? Do you use a USB charger before each ride?
You get two batteries and both are quoted at about 6hrs continuous recording but I have never run the camera that long. You will certainly get more than 3 hours per battery. Their are many new Boblov cameras on the market and plenty of reviews on Youtube,

@MJCM I've noted from your comments in a few resent threads that you seem to be reluctant to DIY. You may well have good reasons for this, like not wishing to 'play' with electricity and I respect your concern if that be the case. But paying through the nose to have a 'contractor' do an installation, when you could with a little bit of 'homework' DIY and most likely a far better job at the end of the day. Apart from that, its a great learning experience as I found out.
As I think I mentioned in another thread, I got the 'solar panel bug' from @Crossy original post "How about a solar car port on a budget". I openly admit that my knowledge of electrics etc is fairly basic and dates back to Ohm's Law when I was doing my degree in control system technology some 55 years ago, but after doing quite a bit of background reading up I felt that I had enough knowledge to tackle a small scale DIY project on my car port roof.
Yes, 'playing' with electrics has its risks, but common sense is an essential pre-requisite.
My biggest worry, or at least my good ladies' worry, was me working up on top of the car port roof at the age of 75. I could tell see was worried when she got my life insurance policy out to check if falling from a great height constituted stupidity or self inflicted injuries.
Looking at your photo, you have a wonderful opportunity to create a solar panel project. As @Crossysuggested earlier, begin with a small scale DIY system like @BritManToo or mine, with a view to convincing your other half that it's a worthwhile investment . My little system is merrily producing about 7 units per day from 4 x 415W panels and cost approximately 28K THB. My latest bill (16/12/21) was 269THB, against the previous month of almost 1,000 THB. At this rate my ROI should be around 3 years which I can live with.
FYI.... I got a quote from a contractor to install the equivalent small scale system. He wanted 150K plus THB, and that did not include having the system registered with the PEA.
Have faith in your potential ability, take the 'bull by the horns', and go for it.
Good luck.
I am also looking to get into solar and so far it seems pretty straight forward but have you any recommendations on batteries. Lithium or lead acid, make? They are my main concern because of the potential for a fire.
