It is unfortunate that the only set of statisitcs used by most when talking of road safety in Thailand is deaths per 100 k of Pop. Other Statistics may include · Serious Injuries per 1 million inhabitants Minor injuries per 1 million inhabitants Deaths per 10 billion vehicle-KM Deaths per 100,000 registered vehicles Registered vehicles per 1000 inhabitants [WHO] -

If you are to believe the figures so far, it is a massive reduction on pre-Covid years. However I suspect there is more to it than that. -

What hunch? Where do you get that? I'm talking about your inability to have an intelligent discussion. You are impossible to discuss with you now resort to clueless false dichotomies but you have no idea you are doing it. - so out of touch. You don't even understand my OP. -

No we don't, it just seems you are too far down the intellectual food chain to understand that or even you own cognitive biases .. and now saddwst of all you are trying to change your goalposts "Please post your link disproving the figures" is what ouyu said and that is what I'm saying is so pointless. -

No you''re not your just trying to disagree in a very non-intellectual way because for one reason or another you don't believe that person. THis is a chat forum. the evidence to back this shirt of stuff up is available online to everyone. If you just take the time to educate yourself there is no need to ask silly questions or sea lion people. (BTW not my [post - I'm just fed up with people who can't reasonably take part in a discussion.. .. due to lack of basic knowledge. THe Stats for Thai road safety stretch back over 20 years - I would have thought you'd be able to see for yourself how these things are recorded. -

A "near accident" is by definitionn not an accident. Personal a scooter is subject to confirmation bias and the lowest form of evidence. -

Road safety is a public health problem. Just looking at road deaths over the last decade will show that around 50 to 60 die every day on day roads. This figure doesn't change significantly over Songkhran or New Year holiday periods. The publicity by the authorities every year are more or less the same The only conclusion you can draw is that they have got it wrong yet every year without fail they do the same thing again. A common definition of insanity has been "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result." The Thsi authorities should bare this in mind. -

The stats given by RTP are pretty vague at best and don't follow standard RTI reporting practice on any level. -

This this a pathetic non-argument by someone who doesn't have an argument themselves...its called sea-lioning. If you are going to make a counter argument, back it up with evidence of your own. -

Yes we will up to a point....you don't seem to be aware of how RTI stats are compiled or which organisations are involved. Most people on this thread fixate only on just one rather misleading statistic and that is DEATHS per 100 k of population. This is only one of many stats. The ones released on the day are simply not accurate. I believe they are released by the police The police are not trained to do this or even analyse crashes. It takes time to properlt compile RTI stats they usually come out a few months after the beginning on the next year.BBContray to popular belief, there is no "statute of limitations" on recording of road deaths.... they continue to be registered regardless of time span. Road injury stats are internationally compiled on various aspects of road safety. Injuries per 100k is just one aspect. ...and Thailand even fails to do this effectively. Injuries are classified as minor, serious and fatal. There have been recently some feeble attempts to do this. The problem is without scientific and statistical analysis of RTIs it is impossible to get a true picture of what is happening on Thai roads and therefore impossible to form effective policies and plans to deal with this. This situation has continued for decades. In the mean time Thailands roads continue to be built and more and more traffic pours onto them. It's a perfect storm. -

Pre-Covid the death tolls were normally estimated at 50 to 60 pr day - so that is a big reduction. THe first and last days of Songkhran are theones with th highest levels of traffic. however the collection and publication of RTI stats at such short notice has to has to raise questions aout thir accuracy and validity without scientific analysis. All this is symptomatic of Thailand's hit or miss attitude (excuse the pun) to road safety. -

in places like Phuket and Samui it seems that agents will "talk" to local authorities and visas/permits for just about anyone with money to spend THey really need to look at the gyms, dive schools and property agencies and clear pout all these people who are taking advantage of the Kingdom.

this is a statement of your own ignorance rather than an intelligent examination of the root reasons for prostitution.. my ex summed it up perfectly when she said "I feel sorry for them" "What, those girls?" I asked "No" she said, "the men". -

You just keep on trying to justify it - in the face of logic and reason. -

An appeal to antiquity/tradition is a common logical fallacy - you seem to be justifying the oppression of women. -
Chinese government awards US$4.1m for local projects in Thailand
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not the right description. People knock China by alleging military expansion or shoddy goods..... none of this could be further from the truth.... it is this "generous funding" that we should be concerned about. China is inveigling its way into all aspects of life in most countries in S.E.Asian region. Businesses, infrastructure, universities etc etc. There may be I stant benefits but in the long term they are indebted to China. Even Australia is succumbing to this. By fixating on the wrong issues, the West is allowing S.E. Asia to sucede to China.
