British family leaves UK for Thailand for lower costs of living
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This all seems a non-event. Presumably they are sorting out their work permits and visas - are they wealthy? tht makes it easier - especially for special visas. In the end I'm not sure what the article is trying to imply. I t will interesting to see where they are in 10 years.... -
Foreigners Detained for Illegal Daycare on Koh Pha Ngan
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
THese people have kids entrusted to them - if there is an accident it is unlikely they will be insured. THey won't have a teaching licence or police check How are we to know if they are sex offenders or not? -
Foreigners Detained for Illegal Daycare on Koh Pha Ngan
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
It's disgraceful. Firstly they are outside the law when looking after children. Secondly there is the wakeboard business. It's not just Russians, loads of Brits and of others just think the immigration laws don't apply to them (because they are white??) THese businesses have no legal right to operate and therefore if there are problems there is no way to get redress. THere should be a big clean up campaign - dive schools, gyms, schools tour guides etc etc all working outside the law. -

why can't people identify crackpots anymore these days? Down to education I guess -
THai food like any other food from round the world is fine - the problem lies with those who consume it. You can spot them - they believe in fad diets and have no idea wht obesity is , what causes it and what the dangers are. This thread is an opportunity for every food crank and conspiracy thoeirist to put forward there nut job ideas.

Using Thai driving licence in UK for car rental
kwilco replied to Ian Roberts's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
I would say no. PS - your UK licence - the plastic part has to be up to date - it only lasts 10 years - not up to the age 70 as on the paper part - if you still have that. -
Sadly this is likely to remain unchanged.

Road Safety summary for 5-11 May 2024
kwilco replied to anchadian's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
this is not set in any context so utterly worthless. THe gathering of stats in Thailand is a total mess - until recently all you could get was the number DEATHS. To make sense you need the 3 injury categories Minor - serious - fatal. THere are also some othe very important stats that you NEVEr hear. Relating to number of vehicles, mileage covered etc etc. There is an acknowledgement that stats need to be more comprehensive but sources are scattered and gathering sporadic. It is not possible to make significant progress without stats. However I have noticed that some roads (including new ones) are undergoing a process of safety upgrading and I belive this may be reflected in the numbers of deaths. Remember too that 75 to 80% or DEATHS are motorcyclists - so the safety of motorcyclists and vulnerable road uders needs to be looked at urgently. I notice that thw term "foreigners" is used as well in the above picture - that really isn't helpful. -

So this is a sudden and new occurrence? I think the whole story is missing vital background information. -

Everyone's blames here - youth, foreigners gangs - no explanation of verification, jut nape-of-the-neck reaction from the police (who don't seem very upset,BTW). Just a public display of incompetence. -
Bad News For Weed Shops: Potent Cannabis Poses Mental Health Risks
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
No I was pointing out the weaknesses in your argument - now I see what a piece you really are. You obviously don't no the difference between reasoned criticism and ad hominem. PS - do you realise that your insistence on bringing kids into the argument is really creepy? -
Bad News For Weed Shops: Potent Cannabis Poses Mental Health Risks
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Unfortunately that is nonsense in almost every word. Thailand isn't "third wporld" and they have been growing and smoking cannabis here for centuries. If you want a "mushy" brain just keep drinking alcohol - it kills brain cells every time you drink....nothing sadder than an old drinker who can't string more than 3 words together. -
Fire Sparks Arson Concerns at Rayong Chemical Warehouse
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Eastern Thailand News
firstly the system is incredibly corrupt. Most inspections are a social visit. Another thing is the incredibly rigid hierarchy in a Thai business - I've pointed out some serious faults in H&S in a big factory I worked in for several years - the owners/board/management were. very polite but also totally shocked that a subordinate should point out these failings - I was duly ignored - although from time to time I would be offered an excuse that simply defied logic. THey couldn't even get their health and safety signs up to international standards. I think at least 3 of the places I worked at had explosions which resulted in deaths or serious injuries. THe reasoning as to why an incident occured is just without reason or logic - one company I knew jumped into action after a fire by .......... calling in a feng shui expert - who told them to move furniture around and sack one em[ployee - not even in the building of the fire. THey employed about 4000 people. As ever everything is reactive rather than proactive -
Bad News For Weed Shops: Potent Cannabis Poses Mental Health Risks

Don't really see how that relates to my post. I think people waste time talking about the chemical effects of cannabis, they should be debating how it affects society if legal when compared to illegal. -

It\s pathetic, but those who want to make cannabis legal for recreational use waste a lot of time spouting on about its "medical" properties - the truth is they are clutching at straws. THere have been a few papers making upbeat claims but as yet nothing is proven and the key factor is that even less show cannabis to be more effective than other drugs. -
New Scenic Corridor Boosts Tourism and Security along Thai-Myanmar Border
kwilco replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
I suspect it is for military purposes. However depending on what they intend to build, it's going to be an ecological disaster - let's hope some local eco-warriers take up the cause and get this nipped in the bud!! -
Fire Sparks Arson Concerns at Rayong Chemical Warehouse
kwilco replied to webfact's topic in Eastern Thailand News
It looks as if the locals and workers on these sites have now suffered physical (and psychological) damage. Also it remains to be seen what damage has REALLY been done to crops, water table the sea and the environment in general. Would you buy a mango, pineapple or sweet corn that has been lightly dusted with unspecified chemicals? I used to work in this region and it is not a new problem, possibly exacerbated by the advent of the EEC project, but I read that 50% of industrial waste in the region was improperly disposed of. I've worked in a factory whilst a fire broke out and watching the emergency procedures was very saddening. Escape routes to the ar park were padlocked - ("It's OK someone will unlock if there is a fire") I also worked with an aromatics company in one of their 'bunkers" - the safety there was a total joke with "sealed" doors left wide open. I've posted on this over the past 20 years. -
Has anyone got an update? Have they started digging up the road?

So you are holding yourself up as a typical example? Firstly it shows that anyone who wants it can get it even if it is "banned" or "illegal" Secondly it shows that you don't get addicted And somehow it turns "children's'" minds to mush but not yours. But I see no reason in your post to make it illegal again. (just because you don't like it is really not sufficient reason)
