  1. Apparently the people who ran the tiger temple are now running similar attractions in Pattaya and other places
  2. Anyone who genuinely falls in love with a foreigner will be unable to bring them home unless they are above the national averae wage - that means that about 73% of the UK population don't qualify - notably retirees and pensioners.
  3. It's a government department authorising the removal - all tigers are technically owned by the government. In this case the authorities have "appointed" WFFT to handle the situation because previous exercises like this were such a mess.
  4. I first vitied Thailand in 1994 and i ived and worked here for 20 years and I can assure you some changes are massive - it's hindered by the fact that the country is run by an ultra-conservative and relatively uneducated elite.
  5. Your karma dictates what you are reincarnated as, and the suffering endured in that like decides on the next - so mistreatment of animals is just karma. It is the view that medicimnes etc are not really a good idea as they mask your true state.
  6. Don't think you know how government hospitals are run
  7. Basically any application now is likely to be refused or delayed.
  8. THey should be indochinese (corbetti) but most likely are hybrids or Bengali
  9. 2016 - 147 big cats were removed from tiger temple. Three years later, 86 were dead, the 61 survivors are still in government care
  10. THere is one situation that comes to mind - an elderly Brit on enough pension to qualify to live in Thailand might need to return to UK for health reasons (cost of treatment in Thailand being very high) he would than have to stay and die in UK alone.
  11. Depending on income, yes.
  12. so if it was a Thai wife, she's not a refugee so would be refused admission. and sent back to Thailand
  13. That was a fiasco. The tiger Temple had to be shut down but they made sure that the "rescue" was a disaster. Edwin Wiek the conservationist noted at the time that cramped conditions enabled the spread of disease among the big cats. He falso pointed out that the government’s tried to do it on a very limited budget. This prevented officials from treating those affected by "canine distemper" of all things. - A virus easily managed with proper food and supplements, clean water, and space to roam. They just weren't prepared to take in so many tigers at once and the authorities should have asked for outside help, but instead they insisted on doing it all by themselves. It is also thought that inbreeding may have caused those tigers to have weakened immune responses.
  14. chamge is happening - slowly as younger [people take over - also Thailand hs been called to account of more than one occasion by CITES - no doubt this will get some more publicity soon.
  15. Th basic philosophy of many people of influence in Thailand is that animals are not sentient but mere commodities and they simply can't understand what all the fuss is about.
  16. It has become less and less valuable n being a British citizen in Thailand since Brexit - there is now virtually no reason for a Thai person to marry a Brit.
  17. No apparently there are people already living in the UK where the spouses or children may have to be separated. Cleverly brought this law in under the cover of other anti-immigration laws. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/dec/10/james-cleverly-anti-immigration-policy-foreign-wife-tories-stewart-lee
  18. Good to see WFFT doing their stuff. The sad part is that this situation has been going on in Thailand for decades and des[pite the reporting in the media, the authorities seem reluctant to do anything to stop it. Remember as a tourist you are su[porting this kind of thing every time you visit a wildlife attraction.
  19. Have you seen the changes being brought in this during? You will need an i come of nearly £40k if you want your douse to join you in the UK. Check out this measure introduced by R.H. Cleverly, MP
  20. Used Singapore many times and found them to be the ONLY Embassy/ Consulate who are efficient and constant in their approach. Never had a problem with th next day system (one phone call check once) and I usually stay in Singapore for 3 nights just in case there is a glitch which there never has been
  21. .Anyone bringing a spouse, partner or child from abroad to live in the UK must be able to financially support them, Home Office rules say. This means the UK-based partner must show they have available funds equivalent to a minimum gross annual income of £18,600. - Guardian Last week the home secretary said from next spring it would jump to £38,700, higher than the median average full-time salary.
  22. You post is a fine example of what is wrong with the Thai healthcare ins=dustry and why most lay-persons don't have a clue.
  23. Thai health industry must love you - total putz!
