O-A visa ?
O-A retirement visa?
confusing?
i rest my case
after pages of now deleted posts trying to tell you all not to call an O-A visa, a retirement visa, this is just one more illustration of why it does matter
By doing so many O-A visa holders are worried about the 800,000 rules when it does not affect them at all
i know one from this morning from UK who was told to bring in the money, he has brought in 850,000 baht equivalent as his O-A visa expires on March 10th after being given bad advise by friends, agents and reading TV
He did not even know he could stretch it out for another year with a quick trip in and out before the end date and then buy a multiple entry to make the second year the same as the first
whether you realize it or not this distinction is screwing up peoples lives
this is the 3rd such case i have heard of since Friday
again an O-A visa is not a retirement visa

from another thread:
Him : ‘’I have recently retired and have been issued a multiple entry retirement visa’’
Me : ‘’Is it an O-A visa ?’’
Him: ’’It's an O-A visa and I have an Australian passport.’’
Confusing huh? Unless you are Australian
the Thai Embassy in OZ punts it as something it is not
It is not a retirement visa

''multiple entry retirement visa''
Is it an O-A M visa ?
are you from USA?

It doesn’t say why he has to leave.
Lots of people are making claims of “many” people will be forced to leave, but no one is explaining why!
you did not ask that or an explanation, you asked:
'' Give me an example of someone that’s already retired in Thailand that cannot stay because of the changes''
i did as you asked in 2 minutes but its not good enough for you
even on these hallowed pages and in the Nation boss pages
not that i expected it to be.........

That doesn’t help. No one is giving detail as to why the rule change is forcing them to leave.
you said show me one!
i found one in seconds on these very hallowed pages with TVs parent as the source
does this one not count then? why am i not surprised........

Then why stay? And why complain about not being able to stay? I enjoy plenty of freedom here. In fact, I find Thailand far more free than the US or UK. I don't find the environment here "hostile to foreigners" And if I did, I wouldn't stay here. Basically your complaint is that you are being overcharged to live in a horrible place? My question is why do you want to live in a horrible place for any price?
its been a lot less hostile since the General put the red faction to bed, my only disappointment is that square face has not been put to bed permanently

If you read that thread, it gives no indication as to why the guy can no longer stay in Thailand or what has changed, for him, as regards to him obtaining his visa extension this year as opposed to last year.
The financial requirement for the visa extension hasn't change at all. 65k baht monthly income last year, 65k baht/month this year. 800k baht in a Thai bank account last year, 800k baht in a Thai bank account this year. Only the method of proof has changed, more inconvenient but still equally doable. I can't, for the life of me, understand how someone found it easy to obtain a retirement visa extension last year but finds it impossible this year.
For French citizens, there is even less change as they still obtain their embassy income letters, leaving the 65k baht/month income route completely unchanged.
elvajeiro said show one, i did and was sourced from TV parent the Nation so i thought uit must be true

“Half of expats”. LOL.
Yet another massive exaggeration from someone overreacting to a small change.
In order to live in Thailand you need 800K PLUS whatever money you spend to live on.
You can’t live in Thailand on just 800K. You need other income or cash. Anyone that doesn’t have that can’t afford to retire in Thailand under the current rules. Those that do should have no problem meeting these changes, even if they don’t like them.
Give me an example of someone that’s already retired in Thailand that cannot stay because of the changes.

I'm not aware of any Brit who lied to the embassy. Not easy. All the Brits that I know, who couldn't prove the 65k baht monthly income or have 800k baht in a Thai bank, used the agency route.
Barry Kenyon used to joke about so many obvious fakes he had seen over the years, maybe it will get into his memoir

9 hours ago, Pattaya46 said:Wrong. Expats have full control on this system!
If no expats was trying to fraud the system,
there would be no work for agents and they would just disappear.
someone on here suggested that ''legitimate'' agents assemble applications and process applications for those with the necessary funds and will process them by legally bypassing the must appear in person stipulation
personally i thought there was no demand for that kind of service as most people do it themselves, so i asked an agent i know what he thought
he said very few asked him to do that unless they were disabled etc
he has a phrase he uses in emails when declining that kind of hand holding service
so i asked him could he search in his outbound mail file for that service during 2018
so he set it to search for the phrase in the content in the email and the
results were that out of 6671 sent emails, only 16 included the phrase to decline that service
so in the absence of any market for ''legitimate'' agents that the other fellow referred to and a sample from a busy agents 2018 records then
i would have to concede to pattaya46's assertion that agents would fade away from lack of business

I have absolutely ZERO sympathy for those using these agents to skirt the rules and laws. If you don't qualify, tough find another place to live.
Because of your games, the honest rule abiding people have to suffer. Thanks a lot for ruining it for the rest of us and enjoy your time in some sh!thole country that will accept you.
what about the people who lied on the statutory declarations and ruined the income letter process for their countrymen
the USA, the UK and the Australians
did they play a part in this ?
which one is worse?
the ones who blew the letter route for everyone by lying to their respective embassies and did not have any money to show
or
those who pay an agent and uses an agents 800K to try to appear to be legal
oop to you

I've never once used an agent for over 30 years. I've never felt the need, and I've never had any problems with renewals. Why does this debate go on and on and on...? Just put 800k in the bank and get on with your life.
good advise if you have 800K to put in the bank

What did he say about the changes?
it will be business as usual
he said get it in before March 1st if you can
He said if they will fix it 3 months before now, then they will fix it 3 months after (for a fee)
he admitted it will give him and the IO opportunity to charge twice maybe even four times with the 400 too
he did not know what the fee would be but suggested it might be in line with 90 day ED visa reports
i thought that was pretty good within a few hours

I cannot believe this was ever the intention. All they had to do was bust their IOs skipping seasoning-checks for the agents.
Makes sense, really. The current system works because agent-apps don't need seasoning. New apps will work because agent-apps won't need seasoning. Whether IO's "waiving" seasoning, or fake bank-books, or whatever - this changes nothing in the equation.
But, alternative money-lenders won't be able to get close to agent-rates any more, as they could have before in the more expensive agent-jursidictions (Phuket at 30K Baht) etc. There will be no more 3-mo loans or money-pooling between friends, as an alternative to agent fees.
We don't know how or if this will occur - or just check at the time of the next application.
He, and his boss, and his boss's boss, unless he wants to be on TV with the big-boss facing jail-time, for running independent-action on the side.
Agents are buddies with the heads of the offices where they work. This is why they can waltz in with a stack of passports, go right by everyone else, etc. Anything would be taken care of in a private meeting, or passed along to trusted-staff who know the score.
i am beginning to warm to you Jack

I wonder how agents can already announce such things, when nobody seems to know yet what will be the exact procedure of Thai Immigration to verify the balance history of our bank account... It's well possible that the procedure bring some serious difficulties for the bad agents (… and I hope so ).
because agents have IO on speed dial
