  1. Has anyone taken vitamins everyday since they were a child? How many people buy them every once in a while then stop taking them? The whole thing just seems to be another money making opportunity for companies.....

Are vitamins just a scam in the end? For an industry which is supposed to be out to help people 75% of its products seem to be junk money-makers.

I see your point. I do think that the big push for vitamins and supplements, and Euchanacea for example, is about making money.

As that same time, I think that vitamins are a cheap insurance policy to make up for what I miss on my diet in general. It's true that according to studies, people that take vitamins don't live longer. I haven't seen any studies about less likelihood of developing certain ailments.

    I take a multi-vitamin every day.

    Fish oil tablets

Vitamin B-complex when I drink more than 4 beers

    Milk Thistle (for my liver)

For me, it's just a cheap insurance program.

  2. Just curious..................

After reading the Tazor thread I wondered.....

    Many speak of home theft/burglary

Is this mainly in condos? Or Homes & Condos?

How about all the gated communities? Is theft a problem there too?

    Just curious.

I can only speak for people I know in LOS, and I haven't seen the studies.

People with detached house are far more likely to get burgled for the obvious reasons.

More security in a condo, and less points of entry.

Often, burglaries are inside jobs. Sometimes a maid or home worker will know what is in the house, and where things are. Two friends of mine, actually have 2 safes. One safe is the dummy safe that is in the bottom of a closet, and the safe with the valuable is hidden somewhere else. They live in detached houses.

  3. let me know how it goes, i normally drink about 30 Min b4 i go to sleep......

Also you must relax before you go to sleep, IE a movie while drinking milk......

Boater, I just drank a pint of milk. My first time trying milk to sleep when I'm off the beer.

You stated the need to relax. I agree.

Hopefully posting on the forum is enough to relax me and my brain.

  4. My question is; Are we, the foreign residents/visitors here (unwittingly maybe?) helping to destroy what we came here for? I believe it is because of our presence, that we are. If there have been this many changes in the time I've been here, what changes in the coming decades.

    Any comments?

Yes, foreigners change a culture to some degree in the places that have foreigners. I wish foreigners (including me) could be a little more "Thai" and less "foreign." Even as a foreigner - I am one of the same - I think certain areas of Thailand "have too many foreigners." I know this is hypocritcal, but this is how I feel.

A global world. And yes, I think more foreigners will come, and many will stay long-term. Not necessarily stay forever, but many will continue to stay long-term.

And yes, we change many things. I try not to, but I do, just by living here.

  5. I've converted to Tiger.

Chang had a bite to its taste, but my head hurt too much the next day.

    I never liked Singh.

I did like Carlsberg, but they're gone.

    Tiger. I'm committed. Dedication.

  6. It seems to hit at the heart when someone criticises our home country.

Personally I have not lived in the country I grew up in for over ten years. If someone criticises it, I might agree at first but after a while I have no choice but to defend it.

How do you feel when someone launches into criticism of your home country?

I think people only criticize countries that are involved (interfere) with international relations, and meddle in other countries' business.

As an American citizen, I think it's OK if people want to criticize my country, because they are only criticizing 1. foreign policy abroad, and/or 2. cultural homogenization (e.g. MTV, McDonald's, etc.).

And often (but not always) I do agree with their opinions.

Only my opinion as a Yank.

  7. I'll set this off so nobody gets the idea I don't like Thailand.

I hear lots of sad tales about being used, ripped and disillusioned there.

Why do I keep going back? I suppose it's a case of me and the Thais using each other.

I can always get a cheap flight, stay in a decent hotel, eat well, date and really chill out well within my budget.

They want my money, which I don't mind parting with if I get what I want in return.

I don't love the place or the people but it's predictable there and I'm just too lazy to look for a suitable alternative.

Can you re-write this so I can understand it?

  8. When I go through my bouts of sobriety, (and I am on one now) I CANNOT sleep

You are a lucky guy tmifume

    I have a sleep problem also - I cannot sleep - when I don't drink. I don't know why, because I drink for 3-4 nights per weeks.

When I do not drink I stay awake in bed. For several hours.

    Why is this?

    OP:

As for urinating at night, many people recomment saw palmetto, which is a natural supplement. They claim it keeps you from having to urinate during sleeping. Saw Palmetto is cheap, so you may want to give it a try.

Because your body is reliable on the stimulants from beer to make you fall asleep, also Cold Turkey may play a part, hence why milk can help.... it worked when you where a baby!....

Thanks, boater. I might buy some milk tonight, then. Regular 2% or whatever. I'll drink 2 glasses, about 1.5 hours before bed.

My other option - only ocasionally - is to take 7.5 mg of valium.

My other option - only ocasionally - is to take 7.5 mg of valium. -

This is another option i suppose, but be careful as you could get hooked on taking Valium to sleep...

Agree with you on the valium. I only use the Valium on rare occasion when a big day is ahead, and I need to really get sleep.

Tonight, I bought Milk. Plain milk with no sugar.

You say you drink a pint, right?

A pint is about as big as a big glass of pint beer, so I'll have some milk later tonight, about 1.5 hours before bed.

I've got to get this sleep cycle back to normal. Thanks.

  11. Having set up and encouraged this relationship deal, it seems odd now to be complain that you are getting what you pay for.

    Wise words from GH.

    It's about qualifying.

Many factors involved, and they can vary from person to person in what they feel is important.

I would not want to someone completely financially dependent upon me.

    To each their own, however.

  12. I have never used this service but some expats I was acquainted with have used this mail forwarding service out of Florida. Apparently, this service (and I assume the others) allow you to claim being a resident, or some similar circumstance.

I don't know what the policy is on posting links. Here is the link. If we are not supposed to post links, apologies (I'm still a newbie).

  13. So knowing what little information I've given you, how much money would you say I need to live in Thailand for 3 months? (Including cost of a place to stay). Again, I can live fairly simple, but I do need 4 meals a day, money for tourism, maybe small trinkets to send home and cost of internet connection. I dont need the guesstimate to include cost of daily boozing and whores every night etc. as I appreciate the well being of my wingwang. :o

Of course, everyone's lifestyle and tastes are a little different.

Instead of giving a ballpark daily expense figure, I'd bring more than you think you'll need per day/per month.

You likely won't need to the extra cash but you might want to travel, or you might get sick. Just in case.

Cash, a spare credit card for an emergency, a bank card, and travelers' checks are ways to diversify you funds.

BTW, I'm from Seattle. How is the job situation, there? (If you don't mind me asking.)

  14. Dragon fruit has been proven to take care of the cholesterol problem, it also reduces the triglyceride levels. No side effects and tastes ok as well.

Do you have a link anywhere, ZZZ?

Thanks in advance. I've never heard of this.

  15. Ear wax is a natural substance produced by the body to protect the outer ear canal. The most common cause of an "overproduction" of the body of ear wax is overuse of common cotton earbuds or overly agressive cleaning. The body "interprets" the over agressive cleaning as irritation and will produce more wax to protect the ear canal.

Use of a few drops of a drop such as Cerumol will soften wax but needs to be used with caution as it can cause extensive damage to the inner ear if used in presence of a perforated ear drum.

Quick question on cleaning the ears.

The old saying is to use Q-tips.

But some say that the Q-tips actually push the wax into the ear, even though some wax is collected.

So, are Q-tips good or bad for ear cleaning? Are they even necessary?

  16. Just wondering what brand of multi-vitamin people take in Thailand? Do you get it from the pharmacy or from the big supermarket chains? How much for a bottle? Any other info regarding mulit vs are surely welcome :o Thank you muchly.

As suggested Centrum has a good reputation.

So does Kirkland brand, and it's USP stamped.

I keep my multi-vitamins in the fridge to keep them from corroding in SEA.

Taking minerals only at night is a good idea if you sweat a lot.

  17. South Korea is conspicuous in that it has been running a large current account deficit (at the highest level since the asian crisis of 98), in part due to heavy reliance on imported commodities. That's the fundamental reason.

The South Korean Won apparently has been strengthening against the dollar (I haven't checked in a couple of months) and Americans paid in Won claim they're getting a pay raise, basically when they wire money home.

As for the Baht : Won ratio

It seems the Baht is stable, a bit.
