byd seal performance vs xiaomi su7 max, exciting electric vehicle times ahead.
however, i don't see xiaomi entering thailand anytime soon ... it is a nice looking car.
That is a nice car without a doubt, a shame they couldn’t tell us the all important $$$ !, also I wonder what the battery chemistry is ? -

So, today i tackled some Elastic Dipping, had bought the stuff for the previous car but when the Seal started to appear the project got shelved.
Anyhoo, had watched some YouTube videos about it and it was easier than I expected.
The front looks particularly good if i do say so myself !
How long it’ll last and if it will withstand a vigorous scrubbing or jet spraying at the car wash is another question.

Coming to a Seal near you !!
So, it has happened, some Chinese guy has developed an app to turn the 360° cameras into a Sentry mode and Thais are all over it !!
Obviously in its conception but could pave the way for something more professional.
Recording from all 4 cameras while running or parked is definitely something interesting, how much will it stretch the 12v battery is a big question ? ( the Sinjet recording only front and back is limited to 24 hrs for sake of the battery ).
Someone commented on another FB post about this subject that Deepal already has this option but i can’t find any info to confirm that.

As said by @sathornlover , yes can derate down to 6A via the app.16A will give you a max it 3.7 kw/h on single phase and 11 kw/h on 3 phase according to the spec sheet.

Did you know that with the ABB wall charger app you can see your total or monthly/weekly/yearly or even a custom period usage in an Activity Report and have it sent to your email address !!
I am going to tell you how as it is not so obvious.
So, swiping left on the Dashboard brings up Statistics which, by default I think, shows you your last 7 days graph.
Click on Last Activity brings the itemized list for the last 7 days.
Click on Last 7 Days and you have the options of Time Period.
Click on your choice and OK gives you an itemized list of all your charging sessions for that time period.
Click on Export to choose what to send and in what format.
Click OK and your email address should be listed for you to Export.
Now, the question WHY ??
I don’t know, tax reasons !!

4 hours ago, Robert Paulson said:All that stuff up there I said about speed applies to ev too. You wanna really push an ev to get its best energy consumption… SLOW DOWN and don’t accelerate fast. I guess the main factor is wind resistence is much greater the faster you travel, so even slight reductions in speed can often offer much more efficient mileage
This is true, whereas mpg is often the maximum economy you can get from your ICE car ( only to be exceeded by using unorthodox measures) EV’s have a range “ guessometer “ using a variety of methods ( NEDC, WLTP, CLTC ) supposedly based on normal driving habits which include highway and urban driving. WLTP is the standard which comes closest to driving in reality. Some EV’s will use a Dynamic range, based on your own physical driving habits, similar to the remaining miles/km’s function on an ICE car.
My car has determined my average range via a Dynamic option. On New Year’s Day I took a trip ( 205 km ) on mainly highways, driving up to 120 km/h and mainly at around 100 to 105 km/h the 205 km took 250 km off my remaining km’s ( range ).
Driving back the exact same route, a couple of days later, i encountered heavy stop start traffic and the 205 km took 189 km off my range.
So, contrary to normal ICE driving, stop start or urban driving is better than highway driving for economy as regeneration braking creates energy.
So, beating the “ mpg” is possible in an EV but usually means some form of driving based purely on economics.

I dunno. Season 2 started slow and I gave up on it too quickly. It has many detractors.
A few years later, I gave it another shot and decided it was really pretty good. Characters had some reality and depth (relatively), weren't just grotesques; atmospheric & stylish; good acting and interaction/tension between the characters. Rachel McAdams, ah. I've thought about watching it again.
Difficult to keep up the high standards set by season 1 , season 2 was a little slow but picked up and season 3 was a cracker !!I class True Detective in the same way as Fargo, which was superb until season 4 but then redeemed itself with season 5 .
All imho of course.

So, I added DC charging stations layer to Google Maps:
Then choose a location, ideal if you are travelling somewhere and want to know the charging options near your final destination.
All the chargers show, including PEA Authority chargers, sadly missing on the native BYD sat nav .
Looks like originally designed by a MG owner as MG showrooms show and BYD showrooms do not but the ReverSharger charges are there so it’s all good .

Owl Log is late again.
Will post this afternoon, or tomorrow morning. Not to be missed though. Some absolutely riveting content; Earth shattering even. A tsunami of action. A infinitival of mysticism. And a pic of such wondrous beauty, that even now, I'm in two minds whether to expose it to the AN community.
So! Watch this space.
Hopefully it is not just the uncensored version of that photo ……. you could lose some readers if it is !!-

In the case of ABB charger, if you are using the free vending option then you just plug the charger in your car and charging starts.
If not using this option, for the reason that anyone can charge their car from your charger, then I believe you need to use the RFID card or start charging from the app.

I just measured the BYD badge at the back, it's exactly 52cm to each side of the boot lid so I think it's just the angle of the camera shot.
I don't see the point in having BYD on the boot lid twice, albeit one with the word Seal, it was a toss up whether to leave the AWD or the 3.8S, the boy-racer in me won. I was considering removing the big BYD badge as well, but felt it would look wrong. I did contemplate leaving off the 3.8S badge too and thus making it into a proper Q car, but vanity won.
I don't think the paint on the bumpers properly adheres to the bumpers, Rolling Wrap in repositioning the wrap pulled a whole chunk of paint off, it's clearly not binding with the bumper and probably too thin. I think it's only going to get worse. If you lose some in the visible area then you will even see it through a wrap. The best time to wrap a car is before you get any stone chips. I think a lot of Seal owners are going to have to have their bumpers resprayed at some point, I hope I'm wrong but I suspect I'm not. The guy also said that Tesla's are exactly the same.
I have long thought the Thai view on accessorizing their cars, is the more bits the better and if someone makes it, it must be good. I'm a "less is more" kind of guy. I hate the plastichrome things they put behind door handles or on fuel filler flaps or round their head/tail lights.
It looks great, I want to de-chrome ( BYD badges and wheels ) too at some stage but now will probably wrap, at least just the front , before going into that. The badges I bought look great for the front but are too shallow for the rear, did you buy 2 different types ?

Just today the wife asked me how much fuel money have we saved since getting the Atto on 25 Oct 2023 and since then driving it 5,890 kilometers as of today/13 Jan 2024 instead of driving the Fortuner. I did quick modification of my spreadsheet and showed her....see snapshot below.
Some rough calculations:{ using household electricity at 5 baht per kw, TOU off peak at 3.5 baht per kw and gasohol 95 at 35 baht per litre }
My Seal gives me around 0.66 baht per km ( mainly granny charging) that should go down to 0.46 baht with the TOUMy Jolion gave me 2.0 baht per km .
So, my 2200 km in the Seal has cost me 1,452 baht or would have cost 4,400 baht in the Jolion, by the time I reach 9,240 km the TOU meter and installation will have paid for itself.
Or something like that 😀

Live in a moobahn short cul de sac of 3 houses each side, I live at the end.
To the right is a couple mid 50’s , wife works everyday at some Japanese electronics factory, husband stays at home growing lettuce and assorted veggies in large polystyrene/styrofoam boxes, a couple of 20ish sons. Okay.
Nobody to the left, a 2 m high wall.
In front a PITA couple moved in about 6 months ago, has a water filtration business, a pickup, a MUX and a Honda Accord , around 9 am every day his workers start to arrive with a couple of mc’s and another pickup .
Seems to think he owns the soi, every few days mixing chemicals in the front garden to put in the large canister type filters ( big like oxy acetylene bottles ). They will have pre work meetings and occasional after work parties, even have a clocking in machine and white board on the house wall. Trucks deliver pvc tubing and filter elements, casings and big bags of chemicals regularly.
Totally wrong environment for a business , considering arson !!

Had Shrimp Suki today at a small restaurant we visit probably every two weeks, noodles, veggies, shrimp and squid, plenty of the red sauce to give it a little zing, love it.

Andrew, Good rundown...thanks.
Your costs were basically identical to this lady's installation costs in Chonburi. Below snapshot is from her Youtube video on her install where she detailed the costs of "Running a 2nd Circuit + PEA Costs"....took pretty much all day in her case. I expect installation at her residence was more complicated than yours.....each install will be different. If Google Translate and I understood her video/cost chart correctly, here's a summary of costs:
The 1st column shows what parts/labor are included in a typical "Bt9,000 package" deal to install a 2nd circuit.
The 2nd column gives more detail on the package deal.
The 3rd column shows the installation cost "at her residence" which went Bt2,700 over the Bt9,000 package flat price adding up to Bt11,700 before she got a Bt1,700 with final price (parts and labor) for the 2nd circuit/charger install being Bt10,000. But we haven't got to PEA costs yet.
The 4th column is just a column reflecting "market retail" parts costs excluding any labor costs....just something to help show the package deal of the charger installer is a probably a good deal compared to open market (retail) price.
Now at this time PEA has "not" installed the 2nd meter or inspected the installation.....the installer just does a quick check of the charger installation by temporarily connecting to her currently installed meter (a.k.a., 1st circuit) Once the charger is tested and its operation explained to the lady that temporarily connection is removed awaiting PEA to come out inspect the installation and install the 2nd meter.
And the 5th column reflects the PEA cost of Bt4,795.80.
So, if I understood her video/cost chart correctly she paid Bt10K to the charger installer plus another almost Bt4.8K to PEA for install of her charger which required a second circuit/meter. Grand total approx Bt14.8K....ah heck, let's just call it Bt15K.
Snapshot from the video detailing the cost of a 2nd Circuit/Meter required for her charger installation.
Yes, i forgot to mention that the wall charger installation crew (contracted by BYD) were very professional, knew exactly what each one had to do.
They temporarily energised the charger with an extension lead plugged into an existing external socket. One guy explained it all to me, about creating a username, password etc and setting up the app.
“ Free vending “ means I don’t have to do any authentication ( using the supplied RFID card or authorise via the app) but means anyone can use the charger ….. and my electric …. should probably disable that !The PEA “ inspector “, who came to check the installation, had the easiest job I have ever seen !
Left his pickup running in the middle of the soi, knowing he wouldn’t be more than 2 minutes, took some photos of existing meter, wall charger and the breakers told us to revisit PEA and hot footed it out of there.
Mine was 14,200 for both installs but will hopefully get that back soon with the cheap tariffs off peak, currently taking advantage of the weekend tariff.
Have tried the charging timer set in the car and it worked a treat with notifications on the BYD app giving a status and when charging stops all from the comfort of my bed !
ABB app is also handy, keeps a running total of the costs although is a guesstimate so far until the 1st bill
As we said before, there is a loss between charger and the car 7.2 kw to 6.4 kw, but it’s all good.
Ignore the Atto 3 photo on app and the range as it is fixed at NEDC (650 km on the Premium ) whereas in the car is Dynamic range setting and I have had above and below that figure when charging to 100 %.

My experience of ordering a TOU meter ( 2nd circuit for EV charging only ) from PEA, if any thinking of going this route.
Ordered car Oct 24th, visited local PEA Authority Oct 25th.
Docs required: Car booking receipt, car spec ( brochure ), wall charger spec ( showroom sent by SMS ).
PEA checked specs of existing meter from house owner id, and checked location of power pole via Google Maps.
Received authorisation and job number.
Received car Nov 30th, Wall charger installed Dec 23rd, pay 9000 baht flat fee plus 300 baht per metre for extra cable used ( 1st 15 metre free ).
Informed PEA Dec 25th.
PEA visit to check installation Dec 26th.
Return to PEA Authority Dec 27th to sign contract and pay 4,900 baht flat fee.
PEA installed TOU meter Jan 8th.
76 days for me, most time waiting for car delivery and wall charger installation, PEA 2 weeks, YMMV.

There is also the option to wrap the front end and then ceramic coat all over ( including the wrap ). Won’t help with any damage from the rusty old pickup opening his door into yours in the car park but will help with stone chips from that old truck full of gravel who pulls out in front of you !!

Does anyone know how to make Google maps open with charging stations already showing ??
I believe it can be done both on phone and on the car version if you have sideloaded ( probably if done on phone then the car version will follow if signed in, not sure )
I can bring up charging stations on both phone and car ( they are slightly different versions ) but cannot save to open with the chargers on the map automatically.Anyone ??

I do notice that I have the AVAS off button in the shortcut panel. Wasn't that a part of the OTA update? But I definitely don't have a store or a user manual.
No, I had the AVAS button when I received the car , Nov 30th, but it would have been included in the OTA for posters receiving the car earlier than myself. The OTA update for me primarily was the store and the manual so suspect your version is the same as mine was when i received the car.
Before the OTA we established there were at least 3 different versions here in Thailand depending upon delivery date.
The OTA just downloads the latest version irrespective of what you had before: for example.
1st time OTA took around 50 minutes
2nd time OTA took 10 even though I had downgraded to a much earlier version ( my browser and karaoke downloads stayed through this process ).

No. Unfortunately I haven't. I received my car on the 6th of Dec and my Sim / app was working as of 25th Dec.
On the one hand I'm not too in a rush because I want to get Google maps working before the update. But just that I don't have the option is a little frustrating. 😐
Yup, in the back room of a BYD head office somewhere there’s an old lady pulling VIN numbers out of a hat !!If you want Google maps I would suggest the Sinjet guy in Bang Na ( see my previous post ) he can put pretty much whatever you want on there and knows exactly how to do it.
GBox will give you access to the Google Play Store which you can then download apps even after the OTA.-

Certainly seems to have been a lot of rumours floating around about the price for this EV.
