  1. What amazes me is that I could easily find a F1 driving shool, but no standard driving schools :o

    http://www.takiracing.com/index.html

My wife went to a driving school in Naklua, they put her in a pick up and she drove around in first gear off road for a couple of days. She then went for the test and passed but had to pay 1000B to pass the tick test, she then learnt to drive by herself on the public roads.

I was thinking that this might be the only solution, but was still hoping for a decent one...this is how explains the thai's driving skills...I'll guess I'll just stick to my motorbike

    Happy, Noel??? :D

  2. I was talking to a police officer once and asked him how the freelancer sellers on the streets act. He told me they don't pay any taxes, the govt is happy that they don't steal or conduct any illegal activities and that are left alone...I was like "Man, this is good!", after that I've asked him about the sanitation, like papers, approvals for selling food for the masses, he than replied "They don't need any!", this was also ok, afterall, I am buying food on the street since the begining...it's ok, I never got sick or something...the point is, they don't have to pay taxes, they don't need licenses, but what about just a common respect for the city, govt, King and so on...is it that hard to clean after your work is done??? At least this should be imposed....

  3. The officials already know, trust me, they are probably just waiting for a company to do it weather for free, weather paying a big tip to get paid for the project, I am not sure as I do not know the in's and out's of this story, but regarding what's happening, trust me, they know, but as long as they have their villas, they don't care...BTW, where is the media this time???

    BTW...read this:

  4. Yeah, I've noticed, they give you a plastic bag even when you buy a bos of cigarettes, chewing gum or God knows what else...not mentioning the smell in the entrance of the Walking Street...Bangkok, they made the skyscrapers but they can't get a proper sanitation system, like sewers and stuff...isn't that stupid.

I am really curious about the comments of long waited topic, maybe some of you guys won't start with the "Why did you chooses to live in Thailand?" or any of those stupid remarks...afterall, the smell and the garbage on the street are a real shame for Thailand

  5. i was under the impression that members of this forum wouldn't talk about such subjects like go-go bars and prostitutes?

If this is about Pattaya, why not?

  6. Try Metropolis 107 fm. It is a classic music station out of Bangkok but the reception is OK here in Pattaya. And it just so happens that I am on their every weekend (Sat 20.00 - 00.00 and Sun 16.00 - 20.00)!

89.75 is not a Bangkok station, it is a Pattaya one and is not Live, it is fully automated which is a shame because the music is pretty good. I guess the work permit issue prevents them from going live with western DJ's

I live about 15kms outside Pattaya near lake Mabprachan, and for some reason I can't get FM107 or any of the Pattaya stations. I might get them if I put up a high FM aerial, but haven't bothered yet. Don't know if this is a solution for you, but I am fairly addicted to radio, and I listen to BBC radios 2, 4, 5 and six via the internet. I have speakers set up around my house and pool, wired into the PC output, and the quality isn't at all bad. I also occasionally listen to Bangkok FM107 through the internet. Another way of relaying the signal is via cordless headphones - I bought some for less than 1000 Baht in Pantip, and I get good reception from the computer head phone socket up to 30 meters away. Hope this is of help to you and others. :o:D

Mobi, how do you connect to the internet, I am just lucky to have a neighbour connected and that shared, but I've noticed that asking for the TOT's service it's almost impossible

  7. Yeah, lately Soi 2 and Soi 3 are really screwed, last time I went in the area it was a total disaster, not mentioning the two body massage parlours, I spent 1 hour trying to see a nice girl and I couldn't find one...

  8. Really guys, the motorbike is okay, but the car is a different case, that's why I would prefere to take car driving lessons, Thailand is not the place for joking with a car

Maybe you should get one of these.....

Donkeykong, you're a eal source of talent, have you ever considered joining Pattaya mail? :o

  9. The guy wants to learn to drive and ride Noel, hence his asking about driving schools, so why the sarky comment? If he does as Mobi D'Ark suggests then I fully agree with you, until then give him a break please.

Steady up sierra01, why so serious? :D

And btw, he said nothing about wanting to learn to drive: he asked about licences. For all you or I know, he may well have assumed that the route to getting a licence was through a Driving School, as is the case in certain other countries.

Moreover, if he cannot drive, why would he make a post such as this:

When I was renting my motorbike, I got it from Take It Easy rentals, it opposite Soi 7 on the 2nd Road, very good service, I had a brand new Yamaha Nouvo MX, only 28 kms
    :o

I said I can ride a motorbike and that I've been doing it since I was 13, I need driving lessons only for the car, anyway, please stop arguing, I am just getting tired of it...

  10. Whatever the true circumstances are leading up to this tragic incident, the poor guy didn't deserve to die as a result.

If the girl and her pimp (?) are well known by other Thai workers in the area, I hope that decency prevails and that the workers come forward and identify the killers to the police.

Pattaya doesn't need this type of publicity.

I don't know why I have the feeling that the other workers in the area will be looking forward into following the example

  11. I don't have a license back home, this is my problem, thanks for the post anyway, Chopper

If there are any driving schools around, I'm sure they don't speak any English - so they're a waste of time unless you speak fluent Thai. If you can drive, you can still get a licence by taking driving test. I know several farangs, and indeed 2 recent Thai wives who have taken the test and passed. If any problems with the test, I don't doubt a small back hander will do the trick. I suggest you find a Thai who can help you with this - should be reasonably well educated - some bar girls (but by no means all),may not be up to it. You will still need most of the documents listed in Chopper's post. Good luck :o

PS Although you can drive without a licence and pay off the cops when stopped, it is worth noting that no insurance is valid in Thiland without a valid licence, so if you have an accident you're in big sh...t

It's exactly your PS the reason for looking to get a drivers licence, I've been riding motorbikes since I've been 13, so for the motorbike I could just pay the "fine" for getting the drivers licence without the lessons, as for the car, I really need lessons, I wouldn't want Noel here to freak out :D

  12. As for the local press reports - this and other recent stories have at least 3 different versions from 3 different rags and none of them bear much resemblance to what actually happened.

That's why I've recommend them to get a real job for the first place, but everybody jumped at me... :o

  13. I have a JVC GR -D73AG video camera, purchased in BKK in 2004. I cannot use it it as when I switch to record there is a mesage telling me to remove the lens cap, even though it is already removed. I have explored this problem extensively on the net and it appeasrs to be avery common fault that occurs just after the cameras' guarantee periods expire. Apparanetly it is fixable - at a price - JVC refuse to fix them fo free, even though it is a widespread fault! :o

So, anyone know where to fix in Pattaya?

and... Don't buy a JVC video camera - JVC are a bunch of b..st..ds. :D

You might want to check out this place in Pattaya. Not far from the FRIENDSHIP SUPERMARKET, same side of the road, near the end (or beginning) of Soi Buakhaw is a fairly new building with 6 or 7 floors of electronics, computers, telephones, cameras, etc. Perhaps one of the repair shops there can help you out.

(Can't remember the name of the place, but it is between the Friendship Mkt. and the big fish/produce market.)

It's an electronic mall, named Tukcom if I remember correctly, a small version of Panthip from Bangkok

  14. I really hope JB can quantify his post with impeccable documentation.

Or are you alexth just a troll?

I'm not a troll, it's just a hunch, usually when somebody signs up on a forum and starts posting bad reviews, I would think that something fihy is going on, wheather he relly means it or he wants to mess up somebody for pretty much anything reasonable.
