  1. I am using a PRS-600 sony ebook reader which is not available in Thailand so it is almost impossible to get a charger for it. However I have read on various forums that the Sony PSP charger is compatible with this device. Where can I get a cheap PSP charger in Bangkok?

  2. What use are the smartpurse cards used in 7 eleven? They sell for around 190 baht and as far as I know can be topped up and used in 7 eleven to purchase goods. Can they only be used in 7-eleven?

  3. Hi I am living in the western part of Bangkok in Talingchan district near the southern bus terminal. Does anyone know if there are any Catholic churches in my area? Ideally it should be in English BUT Thai mass is OK as I am bilingual

    Thanks.

  4. I am looking for a GPS navigator which can be powered when not connected to a car. I need to be able to walk around with it (while it is being powered from the battery)

I also need it to have maps in English and to be able to be synced with a mac

Which one do you recommend? How much does it cost?

    Thanks

  5. Hi I am a Brit wanting to learn Mandarin Chinese in Chiang Mai. I am looking for a language school where I can join a class and study 3- 5 times a week. Monday to Friday.

I don't mind whether if the teacher explains in English or Thai as I am fluent in both languages. Where can I learn Chinese in Chiang Mai?

  6. I have recently lost an ipod touch and I got a new one to replace it. Is there anyway I can leave a message on the screen to say something like 'please call this number if you find it for a reward' I have already taken precautionary measures to delete all my data if the incorrect password is entered 10 times.

  7. Which video conversion software for the mac is good? I want one which can convert FLV (youtube format) to WMV so that I can attach the video onto my powerpoints to teach my students. If it can capture streaming youtube videos that would be a big bonus. I don't mind paying for the software if it is good.

  8. Apart from Ajarn.com, what other sites advertise for English teaching jobs in Thailand? I have 10 years ESL teaching experience in Thailand (mostly at university level) and one and a half in Korea so far. I am looking for a job which will allow me to use my teaching experience as well as technology, so working in a Self-access learning centre in a school/ university would be ideal. Which websites advertise such jobs? I am fluent in Spoken Thai too (if that is of any help)

  9. I have 20 video files each abpout 5 minutes long. I need to merge them together and then edit them by cutting out unnecessary parts. I used a sony video camera and videod the footage in MPEG2 format. I used my friend's camera. Now I have the files on my laptop. When I dragged those files onto windows movie maker it would not accept them so i converted them to avi hoping that it would work but it didn't! So I tried converting to wmv. No luck either. Windows movie maker would not accept them. It says 'unspecified error'

What am I doing wrong? Ultimately I want to slice the video to make a 7 minute video so that I can upload it to youtube

    Any ideas?

  10. I used my laptop yesterday. Everything worked perfectly. I left the house and came back 4 hours later. When I turned it on, the keyboard lights lit up blue as normal but the screen was totally black. The XP logo even doesnt come up now. Normally I can hear he fan turning. There's no sound now. My one year warranty period ran out 3 weeks ago. It was a compaq presario v3000 model V3443AU. Where can I take it for repair? Or will it be cheaper for me to buy a new one? I paid 21,300 baht for it. It has AMD Turion X2, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive.

  11. hi when do require? and for how long?

please PM me with more details.

    thanks

    regards Andy

Try the Korean restaurant downtown. It is owned by a Korean. She may know some people. Also Mae Fa Luang University has some native Korean speakers (exchange students) there who may be on holiday soon. You will need to network. If you find any let me know. I want to do a language exchange with a Korean because I will be going there to work soon so I need to study everyday if possible (a crash course). I have several years teaching experience in teaching English. I am willing to pay if he or she doesn't want to learn English.

  12. Has anyone bought an Asus eee pc laptop with Linux running on it, and if so how are you finding it?

I am running linux lite on Acer aspire one (8GB version) and it works really well on surprisingly low specs. I thought the atom processor would be really slow but actually it gets simple things like typing docs, net browsing and email really quickly!

It took me a while how to learn how to install programs and that took quite a long time (for the actual install process too!) but once you get it running it's great. I haven't used the Asus EEE but I imagine that since it uses a similar processor it will be the same speed. In fact the Asus EEE may even be better since it has more storage and more RAM. Many people say the keyboard on the Acer is better than the Asus but I haven't tried the Asus EEE keyboard yet. I was surprised to see that the machine itself doesn't get hot like it does on my 14" screen laptop. I've heard the Asus EEE also stays pretty cool.

So, although these netbooks are not laptop replacements I highly recommend U get one as a spare laptop which you can carry easily with you on trips and coffee shops to check email and watch the occasional movie on the go.

There is one thing I haven't worked out yet. I don't know where to find the recycle bin on linux lite (i assume it will be a simular layout on the Asus EEE running linux! If I delete a file I am not sure if it frees memory or if I need to locate the recycle bin and delete the contents like you do in Windows!!!

  13. I've just bought the acer aspire one. 8Gb version with linux linpus lite pre-installed. The keyboard has Thai script as well as English on the surface of the keys. On the language settings there are many languages but No Thai and No Korean. How do I install them?

I have installed the fonts now. I don't know why but I tried clicking on 'live update' again and now I have Thai fonts. The second update took longer and installed more things such as updated drivers and Thai fonts (I don't see why it didn't do that on the first update). Still don't know how to get Korean fonts but never mind. Thai fonts won't show up on the language choices on 'settings, input languages' but U can click on the keyboard icon on the right hand side on the bottom of the screen to allow you to type Thai.

  14. Welcome to the real world Neo. Why would Microsoft ensure that you could use their product(MSN Messenger) on a competitor's operating system?

I have managed to get it working now.

Turns out I had to do another live update. Now it works but with limited features (no webcam or audio conversations). Typing messages works fine.
