  1. I don't know mate. I'm a Nokia man all the way. On an E70 at the moment.

    Does the Sony have wifi?

Yep. This model has wifi. A friend of mine uses the p910 & says it's great in terms of stability and ease of use. He highly recommended it and from the looks of the reviews, it looks like something which is fairly future proof. The only downer seems to be that it lacks edge. How is stability on the E70? Easy to use?

  2. I have seen the SE P990i selling in Big C for 25,000 baht but it sells for a couple of thousand more from Jay Mart. I wonder does paying the extra 2000 baht give you any additional priviledges?

Also do most shops upgrade the latest firmware for you (to fix bugs) or do you have to do that yourself?

  3. I am taking Pulmicort turbohaler medication for my asthma which is 200 micrograms (2 puffs twice a day) . My doctor says that Inflamide may be more effective in a spray form. He emphasized that it would only be more effective if I take it correctly and he recommended I seek a professional to train me how to take it properly. Has anyone made the switch from pulmicort to inflamide? Was it more effective for you?

Inflamide and Pulmicort are the same drug, budesonide, so any improved results would be due to the different means of administration. I'm not familiar with Inflamide myself. Can you tell me what you mean by a spray? Is it a regular inhaler?

Turbohalers are the easiest way to take asthma meds. Even my 4 year old granddaughter can take her Pulmicort correctly. (like Mommy and Grandma do!) Regular inhalers, not so much. There's keeping track of how many doses have been administered, and trying to coordinate the inhale with the pump to dispense the mist. All too often the med goes as far as the back of the throat and not into the bronchial passages that need it. If you hold it at the wrong angle, if you hold it too close or too far from your mouth, if you don't inhale deeply enough; all of these things can mess with the dosage you get and make it less effective.

Sorry I meant a regular inhaler (like the blue ventolin thingy) . Do you know of anywhere I can get training so that I am taking it properly? i.e Asthma clinics up North (I am in Chiang Rai but could travel to Chiang Mai). I have searched for youtube videos and googlevideo for a visual demonstation on how to take it but with no luck finding any. I think the inhalers would save me some $$$ cos the turbohalers cost 700 baht here in Chiang Rai (but strangely enough cost 800 baht in Chiang Mai)

  5. I have seen a palm treo 650 being sold in Chiang Mai for 5900 baht. The seller says that he is selling it cheaply because it is locked and does not come with the software. I am pretty sure the lack of software is not a big issue as i can download it from the palm website. Unlocking it is my only concern. Is there anywhere in Thailand which can unlock palm treos?

I read a thaivisa post where a person couldn't find a place to unlock a blackberry. It was posted quite a while ago so I am hoping that things have changed since then.

    The post is here

  6. It helps to tell us what your computer is, what operating system you use, how fast is your connection, etc.

My guess is that you may need to either upgrade your flash player, get a more powerful system, or a faster connection. But until you supply the info, I can only guess.

Sorry for the incomplete info. I am using XP, AMD Athlon processor (1.83 Ghz) 768 RAM and TT&T adsl connection 256/128kbps. I used to be able to play youtube clips (about a month ago) but for some funny reason I can't anymore.

  7. I am trying to watch some youtube clips. After I have waited for the download, I hit play and it will only play the first say 5 seconds of a 4 minute clip then the screen will flash and it will ask me if I want to see the clip again (athough it had only played a few seconds of the clip). How can I watch the whole clip?

  8. I have had a SE smart phone for years, they are superb, the new model SE P990i is the dogs *****ks wouldn't consider anything else, quite simply the best on the market, check it out before you buy anythng else

That's interesting, what does your Sony do that my Nokia E70 doesn't.

By the way you should never ask shop assistants here about their gadgets, they have no idea. Do some on-line research first, read a few reviews, that's how I opted for the E70. Just waiting for the new N95 to come out with 5MP camera, built in GPS maps, plus loads more.

where would you like me to start.................touch screen to begin with, battery life, 2 features i regard to be extremely important, screen size could be another one, scroll wheel, general ease of use...............it's simply better in my opinion

Can the P990 sync webpages from yor desktop for reading offline? I used to use Handstory for Palm which was great for adding webpages to my pda. Also can the p990 read rss? I used to use Avantgo for my palm pda (and pocket pc) and it was great to read news offline.

  9. Does anyone know of any language schools in chiang rai which hire farangs part time. I am free to work only on Saturdays only as I already have a full time job but would like to make a little extra on the side.

Which places pay a reasonable rate.

    Thanks

  10. I am thinking of renting a Building in Chiang Rai. It's a bit like a town house and has the metal shutters which you can pull down when you are out (not sure if this kind of building has a name). It has two floors and I plan to rent one where I can sleep on the 2nd floor (The building has only 2 floors) and work downtstairs. I plan to teach one to one or small English classes in evenings and possibly weekends. I will buy a few chairs, tables and a whiteboard for teaching. I have a regular teaching job already but would like to make some extra money outside regular teaching hours.

I am not planning to open a language school but would like to make some extra cash on the side. Am I likely to run into legal problems if people passersby see me teaching? I mean I pay taxes on my regular job already but will not be paying taxes on the money I make from I teaching extra classes at home.

  11. Yes in the Sripingmuang area I recommend Methawee apartment. I think it will be within your budget. Go and check it out. They have 24 hour security. As for restaurants in that area, check out the ‘Olive restaurant’ which is opposite. It looks basic but the food is amazingly tasty! I had the ‘lad na

talay’ last week. The coffee is also pretty good for the price. "

Could you help out with more info on the location of Methawee apartments ? -( in relation to the "old" city ).

    Thanks

Sure. No probs. Just do a google search using the keywords 'baan tai' and 'Sripingmuang Rd.' When you get to the website, click on 'location map' and you will see a basic map with the names of the main roads. You can pretty much walk it from Baan Tai hotel. If in doubt, ask the locals. If they don't know Methawee apartments ask for the location of 'The Olive Restaurant.' It's pretty much opposite Methawee apartments. If you're peckish after that try the 'lad na' noodles there. I wish I knew the cook's secret recipe then I wouldnt have to travel 10km just to eat there. Arroy jing2!!!

Thanks for your quick response. Does the Olive Restaurant have a menu written in English? I can't read Thai but I am learning. Thanks

  13. I am looking for an apartment to stay in the center of Chiang Mai somewhere near Baan Thai Hotel and Nimseeseng Hotel (they are close together). Does anyone know of any reasonable priced apartments in that area preferably with a/c and costing less than 3500 baht/month. Also are there any reasonably cheap but tasty restaurants in that area? I am on a tight budget for now as I am looking for work.

  14. I need to be in Lamphun on Saturday by around 7.30pm. What time is the last bus from Chiang Mai to Lamphun? Also I need a fairly cheap place to stay for under 500 baht near pizza company in Lamphun. Are there apartments (which can be rented for 1 or 2 nights) in this area?

    thanks

  15. My immediate superior asked me to help her organize a 5-day extensive summer English camp for our vocational certificate students on the first week of March. The purpose for this camp, is to prepare the students for their job training on April. I would like to ask some suggestions of what activities that the three facilitators should undertake and what important points should I (organizer) consider doing during the five days.

The main focus will be on English for Retail, Tourism and Hospitality.

I have had organizing experiences back in the past, but I never had experience of this kind.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestion!

    Thanks again.

How many teachers will be helping you? What facilities are available at the venue? (dvd players, whiteboards? computers?) How many students will be attending? I'm sure it can be done if you have the right people and right equipment and materials.

  16. I need to get a motorbike transported from Chiang Rai to downtown Lamphun. I dont want to ride it there as it's too far and could be dangerous. Does anyone know of any transportation services in Chiang Rai that will do it? If so, approximately how much do they charge?

Why don't you rent a truck and drive it there yourself?

I can't drive a truck. No probs. I found someone to do it for me. A close Thai pal did it for me for free as he was going there anyway.

    Thanks for the suggestions anyway

  17. Hi - I had a member refer me to your post about having a friend with a laptop to sell.

I may be interested if you didn't already buy it from her. I have a v2000 now and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I'd like to get a compaq or another brandname... The 1.5 ghz isn't all that great, so, if she'd sell it for less I'll consider it - I think the new one at Tesco is a 1.7 or 1.8ghz for 19,900.

Is it still available? Where are you located? I'm in Surat.

    Thanks,

I have a friend who has offered to sell me her HP v2000 compaq laptop. She has had it for a little over a year (so warrantee period has expired). It has 12.1 inch screen, processor speed is 1.5GHz (Intel Celeron M), 256 MB DDR SD RAM, 40GB hard drive running XP. She claims she has hardly used it and has never dropped it. She said she paid 40,000 baht for it a little over a year ago.

She is offering it to me for 16,000 baht. Is this a good deal? I want it mainly for surfing the net, typing word docs and watching movies. I am not interested in playing games.

I am located in Chiang Rai. My friend is located in Chiang Mai. Let me know if you want anymore info

  18. Uhm went to Nokia and other shops (Telewiz, Jaymart) Seacon Square on Saturday and wasted 3 or 4 hours there. Most agreed that PDAs weren't any good as telephones.

Nobody seemed to know anything about the Nokia E70 or E61. I could look at the box but that was all. No demonstration models or anything. No brochures either. They wouldn't open a box unless I agreed to buy first. How can anyone spend 25.000 baht on something they can't see or try out?

Jaymart tried to sell me Ericsson P990i. I was impressed by the functions but not the price. 30.000 Baht

Some tried to sell me a Nokia N80 saying it was just as good. Now I am even more confused.

I think I'll buy a cheap telephone and a PDA

Yes that is what I am using at the moment. A pda and cheap phone. Convergence has it's drawbacks ie poor call quality, drain on battery life, losing it (you lose both pda and phone in one!). It seems portability is what sells nowadays and people will spend thousands of baht just to carry one single device instead of two. I lost my hw6515 pocket pc phone and have gone back to my trust palm T1 and cheap 1000 baht motorolla c113 motorolla phone. They do their job well and are very reliable but I have to sacrifice not being able to check my email on the go .It seems U can't have it all! If a smartphone or pda phone comes out which is both stable and reliable I may choose to converge but for now I am carrying two devices!

  20. Saw the V2000 in Tesco today for 19,900. Sempron 3100, 256RAM 60Gb harddrive CD/DVD combo 14'' widescreen. So unless crabstix tells us it really is a 12.1 screen then it's not cheap when you can buy new for a few thousand baht extra. Doesn't come with Windows though.

Sorry I was mistaken. It is actually 14 inch screen! But is does have a dvd combo.

I think you guys have convinced me to buy a new one. I will feel less worried knowing I have bought something new with a warrantee. Thanks guys!
