A FCD (foreign currency account) with 25.000 Euro is not accepted. Sell the Euro and put it on a fixed deposit in a local bank. And get some kind of proof that you already had it in Thailand -albeit in foreign currency.
This is not true; immigration in Pattaya always accepted my USD dollar deposit at Bangkok bank

Hi all,
Does the Immigration office in Khon Kaen accepts USD account by a local bank to maintain permanently the equivalent of 800.000 Baht in US currency? It has worked out for me 2 times in Jomtien immigration office.

I would call it still under consideration since nothing has come out about it since it was first reported.
Nothing from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about it.
In one Thai-FB group some expats insisted that a 200.000 Baht show up in the bank account in addition to the 800.000 Baht deposit will be asked for by immigration when applying for (retirement non-immigrant -O-) extension of stay...so, it seems this are false news?

e-visa has always worked for me. 3 days usually, once it took 7 days, I would advise doing early.
I do not see Dalat airport as an entry point. I wonder if the 1-year multiple entry visa would allow that?
I also do not want a bunch of full-page visas, I had to get a new passport after those filled half of mine.
1-year multiple entry visa? You are a US citizen? If not so how to apply for a multiple entry visa?

After having visited a dozen times, I've now moved to a larger city in Central Vietnam.
* Forget consideration for others. Through open doors at high rise condos, music gets BLASTED. OR kids playing football by the elevators after 9 pm. Or someone decides to burn organic waste next to a primary school. (Fumigating the school, I would expect to get fined a year'S salary AND do time for such conduct back home.
* The level of dishonesty is staggering. Rarely will people keep their word. I've met teachers who have been royally effed over by "centers" in polymorph ways.
* Soft skills? Forget it!
* Bring sauces and be very careful whom to give your dry cleaning. Had delicate suits ruined by greedy bastards doing MACHINE WASHING.
* There is an energy, a quest for life. And in business, they are hard and tough like ingrown toenails.
Last weekend, I stayed at a aub $ 50 apartment with a kitchenette in a small town named HA TRUNG. The building looked ramshackle but was perfectly okay, if you like to be behind bars.
Closing, you can get delicatessen delivered and buy a long-term VISA, if needed. (Hello Thailand, wake up)!
Explain long term Visa....

There are some additional differences to Thailand, the Vietnamese people are extremely nice, attentive and they welcome foreigner much more as the Thais do (at least in Pattaya :). I have visited a plenty of condos in DaNang in the price range of 300-400 USD and they are not as complete as those in Pattaya; no pool no GYM and bulky/heavy wooden furniture, often small windows (but you will find GYM places with pool in the city) or gardens where to rest....and the rent is about 30% higher than in Pattaya; most spaces start around 30 qm. I used to take a breakfast in the street (a delicious tasting egg/spices stuffed, fresh bread for less than 1/2 a dollar...As you mentioned it already the weakest point in Vietnam is the traffic...Personally I liked also Hanoi with so many lakes...Once when resting at the largest lake (Ho Hoan Kiem) I was asked frequently to be pictured with other tourists....if I would have asked for a dollar I would have collected 10 USD within an hour... however to walk in the "Old Quarter District" is chaotic and stressful if not used to it. Next time in Hanoi I would look for a hotel near the lake where traffic and noises are lesser and it would be easier to find a large supermarket....Unfortunately no long term visa were available during 2018 which will make it uncomfortable for those folks looking to settle down in this country...

yes, the Immigration in Pattaya has accepted USD dollar accounts; the bank have to include in their letter the actual amount in local currency....
-
With your plans in mind you should open a US Dollar account at your bank in Thailand and deposit the amount in this account. If going to Vietnam open an account in Vietnam in in US-Dollars again and make your transfer. I did this and it worked perfectly for me....

Nice country....unfortunately Vietnam does not offer long term stay for retired people...unless you get contracted by a company or government office there...or you will set up a business...

I bought Niacin B3 250mg at GNC in Pattaya. I suppose you will find several outlets of GNC in Bangkok...

You don't mention what bank. My friend has used his USD FCD account at BBL for his extension last year and I plan to do the same. We both have well over the needed equivalent of 800k in USD in the accounts. I would have to assume if you transfer in the income monthly you could also use this a proof of income.
Does the BBL offers advantages for USD accounts over the other banks in Thailand?

There are 2 options for those who will avoid paying the expensive taxi fare at the Hanoi's airport. Ask for the collective van (70.000 Dong/3.5 USD) at the airport which brings you to your destination in Hanoi or the bus no. 86 which is still cheaper but will leave you somewhere in the old quarter. I have been told that this bus can be used also to get you back to the airport and you can pick it up at the meeting point near to the postoffice....

This is not necessarily true. I lived in Vietnam for 18 months without needing to leave. Just before my original one month tourist visa expired I took my passport to a travel agency who obtained on my behalf a 6 month multiple entry visa. Every 6 months I repeated the process.
Who is your travel agent in Vietnam? I want to do the same...however have you rented an apartment or house having a 1 -6 months tourist visa?

Visa expertise required: I am on a non-immigrant- Retirement Visa (German, 72 years old). Next visit to immigration will on July 7th. I had in mind, after July 7th to leave 12 months for Vietnam and return to Thailand after the absence. Since I will not attend the required control visits (and probably not request a re-entry permit) how will this effect my migration status? Do I have to start again the visa procedure from my country of origin or there are other options?

There is a Samsung Service Center on Pattaya Nua. It's not too far from- and on the same side as the bus station (close to the recently built Pattaya Posh Condominium).
Their service is excellent and there is a price list for all repairs.
You are right, the services are fast and good. Within 10 minutes I left with my repaired phone...

I had this done after I was released from the Navy at the local VA hospital and couldn't have been more pleased. I've never had further breathing problems during allergy season since.
Very painful recovery though.

Thanks for your reply, where can I find the VA hospital?

Sorry the colonscopy question was meant for a different thread.
Most GI specialists do NOT unnecessarily push endoscopies. In fact in my several decades of experience with Thai medical servcies, the tendency is the opposite - if anything excessive reliance on empirical treatment first.
You make it sound like doctors are paid covertly by hospitals for "selling" endoscopoies, this too is incorrect. There is a direct fee for endoscopy (varying widely by hospital) and most of that is the doctor's fee. Quite straightfoward.
And they do nto cost 1500-2000 dollars, even in Pattaya. Most recent costs I have heard are around $1000 at most expensive hospitals.
Have you actually seen a doctor and been advised that you need an endoscopy, or are you just presuming this will happen?
I am not sure what you mean by "dysfunction of the intestine" but if you have intestinal symptoms, depending on what they are, treatment might start with medication and/or diet, or a colonoscopy might be advisable as it is by far the best means of excluding cancer of the colon and also of diagnosing conditions like ulcerative colitis. No amount of "traditional" hands on examination can do this.
If you are 50 years old or more and have never had a colonscopy, it is recommended that everyone above that age does so at about 10 yearly intervals as a means of screening for colon cancer and catching it early while still curable.
For GI specialist in Pattaya I recommend Dr. Varocha Mahachai at BPH
https://www.bangkokpattayahospital.com/en/doctor-profile?v_id=240&depid=11
She is only there on Sundays, rest of the week can be seen at Bangkok Hosp in Bangkok.
IF a colonoscopy is recommended and you have a problem with the cost at BPH you can get it done for under 10K at the government cancer hospital in Bangkok http://www.chulabhornhospital.com/
but will likely have to first go in person to set it up.
If your problem is likely to be in the colon (I cannot tell from your vague response) then I highly recommend Prof. Chucheep Sahakitrungruang in Bangkok. He can be seen at Bumrungrad, Bangkok Christian Hospital and Chulongkorn Hospital. The last is a government hospital and will entail waits and red tape, even going through their after hours clinic. Bumrungrad is significantly more expensive than Bangkok Christian though his hours there are only once a week on Mondays https://www.bch.in.th/en/doctor-th-4/surgery/item/584-doc22.html
He is a Harvard trained specialist in colorectal problems but would only make sense to see him if your problem is colorectal.
I suggest you consult one of these 2 doctors and, IF they recommend endoscopy - which they may or may not, depneding on your hostor yand symptoms - allow them to explain to you why.
It is not reasonable to expect a doctor to treat you as they would have back before current diagnostic tools were available if it significantly limits their ability to detect or rule out potentially life threatening conditions. In fact, it would be unethical and qualify as malpractice to fail to recommend endoscopy if indicated e.g. if the differential diagnosis includes cancer of the colon.
I first started to practice back in the days before endoscopies or even ultrasound and the like were available. It was not better, on the contrary a lot of people died who would not today, and a lot of unnecessary surgery was done. Indeed, back then one of the most common surgical procedures was an "exploratory laparatomy" i.e. cutting open the abdomen just to see what the problem was, and fix it if it proved to be surgical, otherwise not. Nowadays one almost never hears of this being done, thanks to better diagnostics.
Although I understand that you protect your colleagues but do not share your view that I'm exaggerating what I have said ... I own the written estimate from the Bangkok Hospital: for Gastroscope and Colonoscope Baht 28,000 + polypectomy 15,000-20,000 baht. The International Hospital did not want to give me a written estimate, but said that it would cost around 50,000 baht. The recommendations for those expensive diagnostics are easy for the doctors, they are also mostly the ones who perform this treatment; they are paid for that ..
As you noticed by yourself, endoscopy is not useful in each case and the doctor should first diagnose and treat with simpler methods. But that was not offered to me in both cases. There would have to be extravagant arguments to open the abdomen, and in that case everybody would prefer endoscopy ... but until then, it can be a long way ...
Thank you very much for recommendations ..
