I used Key Visa, they did all the form filling, I paid the Passport Fee my self, all I needed was proof of address here in Thailand, think about 5 weeks.

How many Brits have sunk their life savings into a bar on the Costas, Majorca, Ibiza and the Canaries after spending holidays there most having know knowledge of how to run a business never mind a bar and lost everything.

I am constantly amazed on my small visits to Pattaya once every other month how that many bars can survive. Of course I realise many dont. It would be interesting to know what the survival rate is.
It’s like revolving a door as soon as a bar closes a new owner moves in rips it to bits and opens again.

To be fair, whilst the promotion in Billabong is ridiculous, it's actually quite fair IF you plan on an even number of drinks!
It works out as "Pay almost the price of 2 beers and get 2 beers" so a small saving.
If you have an odd number of drinks though, it's expensive - THAT'S where they catch the unwary.
Triangle bar ("Pothole") operates a similar system.
Scooters in Soi Bukhao did at one time as well.

is this normal in these places -
Along with what appears to be tied distribution (all be it the English phraseology is terrible)
Similar to franchisee pubs in England, you are tied to buy the alcohol/products from owner at an inflated price.

Billabong Bar in LK Metro reportedly for sale, 39 million baht.
Take a lot of customers to warrant that price albeit it is usually busy, the last time I was in there one of the ladies approached me, quite a stunner really and said my p**** is open 24 hours a day, straight forward and to the point, I didn’t take her up on it though.

If its all they can afford then why is there usually a lady in tow?
Its a shame they can't make an effort like the women do. Both visually and socially. They shame they must endure, being seen with these scruffy people.
They are are not bothered not many Thais are as judgmental as you plus it’s putting food in their stomachs.

Full of teeth pickers and old men with their sandals off.
Place makes me sick.
I can't sit in these places. The people just give off low class vibes.
You are being very judgmental, it’s probably all these people can afford, criticising people you don’t even know, just because they dress down doesn’t make them lower class or bad people, what’s do you regard yourself as ?

A couple of my favourite street food places have closed a couple days ago, probably gone home for Songkran, even they don't like it, massage shops getting less and less business.
I haven't seen anything on Buakhao yet but the atmosphere is building
People going home but also eating places and carts get no business for a week as customers don’t want to be drenched and the people with carts don’t want their food ruined with water.

Not the same experience, the seller only had 1 key, he said he had lost the other one, nothing to stop him coming back later and using his ‘lost’ key, I said no thank you to the deal.

Songkran in Pattaya is April 18th and 19th.
Don't know why ?
Officially but water throwing will be going on prior to those dates whereas in most places it only lasts for 2/3 days.

It's funny how they don't understand that a week-long water-throwing madness is actually bad for business.
When the customers are stood outside throwing water the bar is not selling beer and wracking up a huge water bill.

How is it possible to stand amongst a crowd of people all doing the same thing (throwing water), from early morning until evening, without getting bored? Then rinse and repeat the following year, and the year after etc? I was bored ....less after an hour during my first and only Songkran appearance and have stayed at home for the last sixteen.
Same here, first time 10 years ago, 2 hours was enough never crossed the door since for Songkran, let the Thais enjoy it. Strange you see older foreigners getting involved but never the older Thai people ?

Thought there was a water shortage, a week of throwing water about in Pattaya will soon deplete the supply.

First, they charge a maintenance fee. When the balance drops to zero, they close the account.
I was stuck in the U.K. for 15 months during covid, I assumed there was only a few baht in the account, I didn’t have a Debit Card for the account at the time.
I tried to transfer money to the account but it had been frozen, I went to the branch and unfroze it and found out I had ฿5000 in the account !

That’s great news, it will pay for the 10000 baht digital wallet scheme with out having to borrow the money for it.
